It was raining. Fear liked the rain, since it meant the weather was perfect for exploring. It wasn't that he was exploring the wet swampy marshes of Matope, no. He stumbled across some caves recently, and today was the perfect day to jump in and see just how deep they are. The green buck wandered to the entrance of one of the caves he'd seen, and without hesitation, stepped into the darkness. It was exciting to step into the unknown. Who knew what he'd find?

Forgotten hummed quietly to herself. This was the best place yet to stay. She had been in this cave for a few days now, exploring it in the day time and creating a comfy place to sleep at night. The rain didn't really effect her since she had created her little home in the cave. Sure it leaked and in a few places but her little bed of grass was nice and dry. She stood for a moment on one of the higher formations in the cave, looking towards the entrance. "Liiiinger~" She liked the sound of the echo, but she also didn't know where that turtle had gone. Linger Was near the entrance, enjoying a meal of grass when a stranger entered the cave. He looked at the buck with an odd tilt of his head and made a sort of croaking sound before returning to his dinner.

When he entered the cave, the turtle had... surprised him. He stared at it a moment after it croaked at him then returned to eating.
Then he heard a voice. It was a hauntingly soft echo. Liiiinger... Ooooh, was this cave haunted? Did it hold some long forgotten spirit? Or perhaps a kin whom had shut themselves away and became a dark and twisted figure? He pushed onwards, going deeper into the cave, looking for the source of the echo

Linger heard his name called in that haunting echo. He knew what it was, his owner calling him. He started to make his way back slowly behind the buck, still munching on some grass.
"Liiiiinger~" She called again, wondering where that turtle had gone. Sometimes he seemed more forgetful than her. She wandered to the entrance to the cave, spying a figure a ways off in her path. "Hello?" She spoke softly and let the echo carry to the figure. Was the cave playing tricks on her?

There it was again. That voice. It was closer now.
The fading sunlight was behind him, but Fear could only see where his shadow ended. Beyond that, the cave was black as pitch. Then it spoke again. This time, not to linger.
"Hello." He returned the greeting, letting his deep voice carry through the cave.

Oh... There was someone who had wandered into the cave. She smiled to herself, waking her way to the other; a male by the sound of his voice. "Hello!" She chimed back in excitedly getting closer to the male. "What brings you to such a lonely cave?" She looked the buck over, his mane looked a bit disheveled. "Maybe you're seeking shelter from the rain?"

"Hello, S-" he was about to call her a specter, but somehow her cheerful voice lead him to believe that perhaps she was not a spirit. "-stranger." He finished.
"Shelter from the rain is only a side effect of coming to the cave. I... simply wished to explore. I want to know what lies beyond where the light reaches."

"Please," She smiled, looking at the handsome buck. "Call me Forgotten." She still grew closer to the other. "If you wish to explore, might I offer to accompany you?" She looked further into the cave. "There are a few dangers that I have come across in my days here, but I hadn't made plans to truly explore it's depths."
She pause, looking back at the other. "It becomes hard to see beyond where the light reaches. Step lightly. Remain on guard..."

"You're too cautious." He stated softly, walking further into the cave, careful not to step on the turtle. "But you can join me if you like. I'm not afraid of what lays in the darkness." He took a step past Forgotten before realizing "Fear will hold you back." He gave his name. "But you can just call me Fear."

Forgotten followed after the buck fearlessly. "Fear, it was only a warning." She looked past him, into the depths of the cave. "No need for anyone getting hurt exploring." She smiled shyly behind him, catching up quickly.
Linger watched the two, uninterested in braving the depths of the cave. He wandered back to the entrance slowly to find more food.

It wasn't long before the light from the cave was just a spot behind them, and you couldn't see anything in front of you, not even your own nose. Fear found his hooves shuffling along the floor of the cave, kicking stones or bones, whatever was on the ground in front of him. It helped him find a turn in the cave without running into the wall.
"What are you doing in here anyways?" He realized he'd never asked.

"Shelter.... Exploring~" He hummed happily, following after him. She took his advice, not to be too cautions. She wouldn't have ventured this far without him. Forgotten kept close to him, making sure that she could touch his tail or brush against him every so often.
"Is it odd for me to be here?" She wondered out loud as they continued on.

As a tease, since she couldn't see his grin, he offered "It is. Very odd indeed. Almost suspicious." He felt her pretty close to him. Was that her tail that touched him? "Being alone in a dark cave like this..."

"Suspicious?" Forgotten couldn't quite see how being in a cave was suspicious. "Well... You're here now so that's not odd or suspicious." She stated with a nod of her head, even though she was sure he couldn't see. She settled with a gentle nudge to his flank.

The nudge made Fear sidestep slightly. There was a faint splash, and he could feel cool water around his knuckle. He looked down instinctively, even though he couldn't see anything. But he got an idea and dipped his tail in the water and splashed Forgotten.
