She'd clamped her hands over her ears when she felt Robert lean in, clenching her eyes shut and forcing some variation of 'the song that never ends' through her head to drown him out - it only barely worked in some ways, catching some of his words, pieces of taunts, and a very thinly veiled threat.
To be honest, she knew Robert would enjoy her suffering whenever that came, but she didn't want him near her - on her terms, not his. That was what Lance had said and she hadn't managed that. She should have stayed - but staying in place was not helping with those who were coming home. Though by the way Robert had worded it, Marcus would not be one of those.
She squeezed Leon's hand even as he pulled her away from the complete ******** that was Robert's sadistic torment of her psyche, stopping mid step suddenly as she pulled her coat further around her.
"He was...lying...right?" again, she sounded hopeful.

It was a mistake, Leon felt it in his bones. The fact that Robert may have felt some sort of resentment toward Cass didn't dawn of him, nor that concept that Robert would be thrilled at bringing her world down. He was one excellent big brother., just botching everything up one after the other. This is what happened when a dragon decided to play the quiet game on him, he thought bitterly to himself. Nope, no crass comment at that either. "No." Leon finally said at last, breaking the silence. the word was thick and heavy and spoke many volumes. It was amazing to him how much just one word could mean in the right situation. He hated himself with every second that passed as he balled up his fist and found nothing to punch. Helpless, alone and unreliable. It was Leon's own personal nightmare come to life.

'No.'
It was the most painful word in the world - even more painful than all of the sadistic comments that Robert had made at her expense. A look as if her very world had just been shattered - and perhaps it had been, given the depth of her relationship with the moon hunter - took no time replacing that forced hopefulness on her face.
"You're lying..." it was less hopeful sounding and more like she was trying to convince herself that was the case, yet her heart seemed to already know that wasn't the case as her eyes started to gloss over and the tears were already kicking in.
But the worst would still come.

"Why would I lie about this?" Leon asked quickly, almost lashing back at Cass. It was one thing to not tell her, but for her to call him a liar on top of that. It stung. the anxiety only got higher as he tugged on his pockets with force, balling up his fists inside. "I have no reason to lie about that, much less something that was so serious." he grunted back. his voice still sounded hoarse. "I wasn't able to stop it, I'm sorry." he continued, apologizing once again for his inability to help. "I'm so, so sorry."

Cass snapped back just as quickly: "I DON'T KNOW." She sounded like a wounded animal as she began to sob, a horrible wail of a sound as her heart was metaphorically ripped from her chest.
"Is it SO WRONG for me to want this to be some horrible LIE that ******** ROBERT dreamt up to get back at me somehow?" she almost screamed it, but had to stop as the mixture of tears and hyperventilating threatened to take her down, clutching the chest of her shirt - right over that bandaid - with a sort of desperation for air.

"You're a hunter sis." Leon barked back. "You know that this could happen at any time, with any of us." he countered back, placing a unsteady hand on her shoulder. "And it's not wrong." "But you must be strong." he insisted, giving the former mist a light shake. "Be strong and don't let Robert see you weak, let anyone see you with your defenses down if you can." He wasn't really sure if that was meant for himself or for Cass anymore.

"SO I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE FEELINGS ANYMORE? Am I supposed to put on this ******** coat and just become a ROBOT?" Robots would make more efficient hunters than humans did in a way, though.
"Are you saying that if it had been you it'd be preferred if I just acted like I didn't feel anything?" She twisted up the fabric of her shirt as she looked away from him.

"Isn't that kinda what we are?" Leon queried out loud. "Our lives aren't even our own anymore, we gave that up before coming here." he muttered softly and continued the charade of being granite, emotionally and physically. "if t was me..... I'd expect just a passing acknowledgment and for everyone to move on with their lives." he continued, oddly shocked with how natural it sounded. The moment of personal confusion wore off. "He may be stone, but he's not.... dead, per se. Maybe the Life division can undo whatever gorgon curse was placed on him." Even he didn't believe it one bit. He didn't expect Cass to either.

She hit him. It wasn't most of a hit, mostly fueled with frustration and tears as she screamed something along the lines of AOUDSALKDASHLDJAUGSH! at him. Whatever that meant.

While the battle cry did leave Leon baffled, the clear sting of flesh meeting flesh said it all. Cass was without a doubt getting stronger, he wasn't sure if he should be proud or be sad about that little fact. His cheek flew raw and tingly from the sting, his head jerked aside from its momentum. And thats where it stayed. "Feel better?"

Cass fell to her knees, clutching her chest and continuing to sob.
"I don't think I'll ever be better."

Leon would have killed to just pick Cass up, the big brother instinct was just nitpicking at his conscience, urging him to play the role properly.
But the part of him that was drilled into becoming a hunter refused to let him act upon it. So he just stood there like a lump. and waited for her to calm down, or to at the very least shield her from the others.
Crying was a very personal thing in his mind. "Take it slow then. baby steps Cass."
