I found out that my university has a course on metaphysics, so I first thought, "What? A college course on the paranormal?" I then did some research on it and learned that it's a subject on philosophy about the nature of being. It includes studies such as ontology(study of existence) and other deeply enriching philosophies. So I thought, "Why is metaphysics so attributed to the paranormal?" How is the summoning of ghosts the same as the study of physical identity?

It isn't necessarily. I can see where the both of them can tie in to finding out about ones own being and soul, possibly learning something that crosses over into the world of the paranormal. In essence, you could say "To each their own" on the subject since everyone has a different perspective and view on any given subject, and given that, the perspective of the metphysical is different to a collegiate setting... My opinion states it as they are taking a more scientific perspective to it rather then a 'spiritual' perspective...
Spiritual being a stated name to the nameless, covering all beliefs at once... So, don't anyone jump me if I made that sound like it only covered one group of people.

The two aren't identical, though they are related. You might say a metaphysical being (i.e. a ghost or spirit), is real, but is it really? I mean, I'm not meaning to offend anyone, but can a ghost really be real if (stereotypically) it can go through walls, become invisible, and move itself? It dosen't occupy space, obviously, because if it did, it wouldn't be able to pass through objects without displacing some kind of mass. And even if you believe a ghost is simply a voice and personality without a body, that voice has to come from somewhere. Vocal cords cannot just manifest themselves in random places, and without a source, sounds cannot be. That, my friend, is metaphysics. The study of being.
