((OOC))
Time to put your harness together! First you need to collect the proper pieces!

Roll 1d4
1 - You thought you got all the pieces but it seems you accidentally picked up a double somewhere, go back and try again!
2 - Hooray you've collected the proper pieces!
3 - Your missing a buckle! How are you going to put things together without a buckle?!?
4 - Hooray you've collected the proper pieces!

Now that you've got your pieces it's time to put it all together!

Roll 1d4
1- Great! It looks like you've done it!
2 - It one side supposed to be longer then the other...? Oh dear...
3 - One of the straps is backwards, try again!
4 - You though this strap buckled here..but it's missing the proper buckle holes...in fact it looks like it might have gone over there instead and come to think of it that strap looks wrong now too. You've made a right mess of things, better start over!

Now that you have your harness together it's time to fit it to your dragon.

Roll 1d4
1 - Neck strap is too loose!
2 - Neck strap is too tight! What are you doing?!?
3 - Perfection!
4 - The whole thing looks like it's about to slip sideways..think you need to make a few more adjustments!

The advantages to living in an practically abandoned weyrling barracks was that there were all sorts of interesting notes and things lying around. In fact, E'lov had been lucky enough to find a collection of notes from a previous weyrling master, about what the weyrlings were to be taught and when.

According to it, they should be starting training for flight, starting with harnesses for the young dragons. E'lov had been tempted to skip that step, but none of the completed harnesses left in the barracks had been of very good condition and so, he was going to have to do it from scratch. Or mostly anyways. There had been a couple of boxes filled with spare harness pieces and with those, and a completed one that to look at, the boy felt certain that he would be able to succeed.

What are you doing? his dragon inquired, looking over the boy's shoulder down at the pieces laid out in front of him.

"Building you a harness," E'lov responded, reaching up to rub the dragon's eye ridges. "It's the first step for us to learn to fly together."

We will fly soon. the dragon said confidently. They needed no one to teach them, not for this, not for what he had been born to do.

"And then we can have a proper weyr if we want." He wasn't sure if he wanted to move yet, this had been his home since he had come to Malvren, but even with Magith being small, he knew that they would have to move eventually.

Yes.

The boy turned his attention back to the harness pieces, and started to put them together. Or tried to at least. When he was done putting them together, the pieces were tangled up, and he frowned. "I don't think this is right at all."

He examined the pieces closely, and then took it back apart. He wasn't sure how he had screw up so badly, and he stopped and looked at the finished harness.

Try again. Magith encouraged. You can do it. There was nothing that they couldn't do eventually.

This attempt was better, but there was still something off about it. He ran his hands over the pieces, pausing at a piece that had been put on backwards. "That would be the mistake."

You did better, Magith said, his eyes whirling blue.

E'lov chuckled. "Yeah, that's true."

Maybe he'd get it right this time.

He undid it once more, and then reasembled it, but it still didn't seem to be correct. "Argh!" he exclaimed, clearly frustrated by the harness. "Why is this not working!"

Perhaps you are trying too hard? Magith said, now joined by a silver firelizard perching on the blue dragon's head. We will not let this harness beat us.

E'lov chuckled. "Thanks, Mag." he said, reassured by his dragon's words.

"Hopefully this'll mean that the next time I have to do this, it won't be so much trouble." This was incredibly frustrating, and he almost thought about quitting and going and asking for advice from another rider. Of course, he didn't actually know any of the other riders, but surely they'd be willing to help him.

I believe in you, E'lov. He was a little concerned with how hard the harness was to put together, but he knew that E'lov could be a perfectionist occasionally and wouldn't be happy unless it was perfect. Maybe you need to take a break?

"Yeah, maybe."

He gave the thing one more try, and after getting the same strap that he had put in backwards the last time backwards again, he decided that maybe his dragon was right. Maybe he did need a break.

"Will you be okay in here?"

Of course. His silver moved from on top of the dragon to his shoulder, chirping in E'lov's ear.

"Fine, I'll get you a snack." He headed off, down to the kitchen where he could grab klah for himself and a snack for his silver. He was glad that his other firelizard had taken himself off for the moment, and was probably off playing somewhere. One needy flit was more than enough.

After his break, the boy found it easier to concentrate, and he put together the harness without much more trouble.

"What do you think?" he asked, holding it out for the blue to examine.

It is functional, he responded, nudging it with his nose. It should do.

"It's just a tempory one," E'lov said, caressing his dragon. "Since you're still growing. We'll get you a nicer one once you've settled into your full growth."

Good.

"Tell me if anything feels uncomfortable."

He would have to trust his dragon's judgement for this, and then, once he thought it was correct, he would have to seek out an older rider. He had no intentions on using a harness that was done incorrectly, and since he had no weyrling master to check it, he'd just have to pick a random rider and hope that they'd help.

Once things were attached, Magith began to move around, testing the harness. It feel fine to me.

At least that was good news.
