It had been several days since the weekend where Attor had found out Vonali was back with Kenny. He was determined to act as though nothing was different between him and his friend Von. To Attor this meant continuing to court other girls that meant a little less to him then Von did.
In his attempts to forget that day he had pretty much over booked himself with dates. Completely forgetting that he and Vonali had a potions project that they had to work on together, as the teacher had teamed them. Oh how he would regret letting that slip his mind.
Attor sat down near the lake Cindy a Slytherin girl sitting far to close beside him. Everything about her spoke that she was heavily flirting with Attor. Attor smiled and was enjoying the conversation for the most part, though she was a little air headed for his taste. She made an excuse that she was cold and inched even closer to Attor. He laughed and let her do it, it was fun to have attention like this after since he was feeling rather turned down in a way.

Vonali was miffed before that Attor had forgotten not only their practices but now their assignment.So after hunting through the castle for him she was livid. She'd almost made it to the quiddich field when a fellow yearmate pointed her towards the lake. She was going to punch or kick him in the ribs
As she neared the lake she caught sight of Attor and a girl practically in his lap. Her face flushed red. THIS is way he'd been so absent. This was not going to do. As she stormed towards them her eyes seemed to reflect fire. The girl was a housemate, good she knew of Von's temper. Two she was a first year and would scare easily. She stopped a foot to their side. "Girl if you value that pretty head of hair you'll run. I know a guy who'll dye it the worst shade of puce." She watched in satisfaction as the girl ran away. She was smirking and idly playing with her necklace when she turned her fiery gaze to Attor

Attor laughed a bit the girl poked one of his freckled saying they were cute. She was rather more forwards then he cared for really. He let her go on before he heard the girl gasp a bit as Vonali approached them.
Attor turned to watch as the girl took off like a bat out of hell. At first he laughed a bit with amusement till he caught sight of Von's face. The gaze had been directed on him now and it wasn't so funny. His face straitened up his lips forming a frown and he sank down a little. There weren't many things Attor feared but the look on Von's face had just become one of them.
"H-h-hi Von.........." Attor swallowed a bit. "How are you?....."

Von stared down at her friend. Before motioning towards the way the girl ran off. "So that's way you've been standing me up?!" She started to pace before glaring at Attor again. " Stand up so I can kick yer a** properly!" She didn't wait for his reaction before pacing again tugging idly on her necklace.
" I've been practicing every weekend by myself! And Now our potions project is due tomorrow and we haven't even started!" As she tugged on the note her fingernail would slide in and unhook it before quickly closing it again. It seemed that over the past few weeks she'd taken to wearing it often enough that her new tales had incorporated it into them.
" I've got all the notes and things done, we just have to make it." She stopped pacing the anger already sliding away. " Look if you want to spend your time oogling the girls, fine but don't forget your friends." With that she spun on her heels and was ready to return to the castle.

Attor made a face ruffling a hand through his hair. He had forgotten about stuff, great it might seem like he was avoiding her or something. Attor stayed quite as she fussed at him simply watching her as she paced back and forth he sank lower feeling like he had betrayed her in some way.
He watched her play with the necklace which gave him an odd feeling in the first place. Then he saw she knew how to open it, his heart almost stopped for a moment. Did she know? What did she think of the song? Great if she had figured out he had wanted to date her now she would think he had been avoiding her on purpose.
Attor scrambled to his feet and made after Vonali. "Von....I'm sorry!" He moved in front of her his face clearly upset. "I didn't mean to forget our project or our practices. I just lost track of time."

Von came to a sudden stop when Attor got in front of her. At his weak excuse she rolled her eyes. " Into the eyes or panties of several girls in school, so the rumors said. Guess they weren't wrong." She moved to step around him but against her better judgement stopped to look him dead in the eye. " You said you'd be there. Guess you're like the other guys I know."
She would not cry no she'd get mad and then take his own advice and move on. " Look it's your grade, so whatever." This time she did pass him but didn't run, oh no that would be a sign of upset, she would not give him that. Her necklace still clutched in her fingers.

Attor hands dropped to his side not sure just how to reply. "Panties?" Attor stuttered what kind of rumors were flying around the school about him? Not ones he liked that was for sure. When Von said the next part he look dumbfounded. He couldn't believe she had really just said that to him. Sure he had forgotten a few things, but she could have come look for him if she thought something was wrong right?
He stood there quietly as she walked on his arms wrapped around him it wasn't even a conscious move. Attor was still very prone to fall into an easy depression it hadn't left him completely from the beginning of the year. Attor turned watching her walk away. What could he say? And just why was she this pissed? She had other friends and not to mention Kenny, what's the big deal if Attor vanished for a bit?
"Uh......F^#k the grade!" Attor half shouted suddenly hiding his other emotions. "What the bloody hell are you attacking me for?! I'm sorry I got distracted! I'm sorry I let you down on the project! But I didn't abandon you! So don't act like I did." If she turned to look at him though there was no anger on his face. His lip was quivering and he looked more scared then anything. He didn't want to loose Vonali as a friend over any of this. "Y-you know I'm always there if you need me.....I just....I don't know....Why would you say something like that to me Von?" Attor looked hurt now and he dropped his head. All he had that was important to him was his friends now so what she had said hit him hard.

Vonali let his anger wash over her before she whirled to retort. When she turned around she was ready to return fire but at his look her anger burned out. She walked closer but stopped once about a foot away. She wanted to touch his shoulder but worried it's do more harm than good. "I was attacking you cause one day you give me a gift and immediately start acting differently. And then I don't see you or hear from you ever not even when we have a set schedule." She didn't tell him that she'd been going daily to the practice room. "The last best friend I had started doing that too. And you know why, so I guess I'm just worried."
She kicked the ground idly. What if her late night musings were wrong and the locket really was a simple friend gift. She played with it for a moment. "I don't have any friends but you. Sure there's Kenny but, I don't know it's different. I can't let go and be carefree with him. I could with Marc and look where that got me."
She shrugged off the moment and attempted, poorly to put her mask back on. " Don't worry about the potion, I'll figure out how to do it and add both our names. You can go call Puce haired back." Now he had her all depressed. No more! She closed her eyes and hoped when she opened them she'd be herself again.

Attor tried to calm his body's demeanor as he realized just how he must look. He scratched his head a bit he didn't know how to explain things without mentioning that the gift had been to ask her out. "I just needed a change for a few days. I just wanted some attention that was a little different from friendship...you know. I was going to speak with you and do this weekend and the project really did just slip my mind."
"You're one of my best friends Vonali. I feel the same about you. You pull me out of what I've been trained to be for the longest time and I think we both need that. I'm sorry I was acting weird, but I might be for awhile really. I'm not even sure who I am or who I'm supposed to be right now. Just forgive me alright, I messed up, but I didn't mean to make you think I was avoiding you like Marc. I'm not gonna be easy to get rid of. I don't have a family anymore so my friends are all I've got." Attor admitted trying to let her know he was serious about that. Perhaps if she did know about the reason he gave her that necklace then she would understand from what he said now he wasn't gonna leave just cause she didn't want to date him.
"I don't care about her...." Attor said looking towards the direction she had run in. "I rather help you with the potion....if you can stand me right now..." Attor looked back to her his expressions calming a bit. Attor was trying to get back into a protective shell. He didn't want to fall into a depression again his body couldn't take it.

Vonali kept her eyes closed as Attor talked. She winced as he called her one of his best friends. But she could cope at least he wasn't telling her to go away. As he flat out told her he wasn't like Marc she relaxed and finally opened her eyes.
Her fingers were wrapped around the necklace as a child holds on to it's treasured blanket. She turned to him right as he spoke about not caring for the girl and laughed. "Can I still have her hair dyed puce?" Cause if not that may be a deal breaker." Her voice was joking and she laughed throwing an arm around him but there was hint that if he said sure she'd do it. " So on to potions then?"

Attor noticed the wince and wondered if he messed up again. If only she knew it was just Tynan and here he held as best friend....or higher. He didn't want to talk about such things though.
Attor felt relief wash over him as she laughed. He could not deal with her being mad at him for long. It would have sent him into depression with such ease. "Have at it....she is way to loose for my taste anyways...." Attor said shaking his head. "Yeah I guess....does that mean you forgive me at least some what?"

Von cheered and made a mental note to have that done. She started them walking back to the castle where she'd left the potion supplies. " This issue is no where near resolved but it's a decent standing so we can file it for now. One day we'll reopen it, but you'll have fair warning." She smirked at him and playfully punched his shoulder before dashing away. "Get moving Slow poke!"

Attor blinked and shook his head before following after Von. He was far from ok himself though, he had been really shaken by what she had said. The good mood he had been in from the flirting with Cindy was completely gone now.
"Von, you have an interesting way of dealing with things....I feel like there is a file full of heavy s**t that's going to fall off a shelf and hit me on the head one day later...." The boy said while rubbing his arm where he had been punched.
"Umm.....What was the project again?" Attor asked so he could recall mentally the information for it. Potions was his second best class so it wouldn't be hard for him to catch up. He had already read the whole text book anyways near the end of the summer.
Once they got in the school Attor caught sight of Cindy who looked very pissed at him , Vonali, or perhaps both. Great he wondered what rumors might spread from this one. Von had acted some what like a jealous girl friend catching her boy friend cheating on her. Wait....she had kind of acted like that hadn't she. Attor looked over and couldn't help, but wonder if she did feel something more for him beyond what she could let on seeing as she was with Kenny and all. ...Why was life so confusing anymore? It was easier when he was a spoiled rich boy who that everything was beneath him.

Von didn't let on but she too was still feeling hurt and frankly terrified that things would get complicated and he'd leave just as Marc had. When he first spoke she smirked and chuckled. "Nah all my files are under my bed."
Vonali shrugged as she opened the door. "I don't know. I've got it written down." She turned to smile at Attor but noticed he was looking at Cindy. She noticed the girl's glare and laughed. "Sorry about your date." She sneered at the girl before walking on with Attor.
She was SO going to dye that girl's hair. Attor had looked at her in time to notice her sly grin and fingers sliding the note back and forth on her necklace. She noticed him looking and offered a mischievous grin and dropped her hand. She grabbed his elbow as she suddenly turned right and into a classroom. On the table sat Von's bag and the ingredients needed for the assignment. " Here we are."

"I'll make note of their location." Attor said with a laugh to let her know it was in jest....mostly.
Attor shook his head a bit at the exchange between Cindy and Vonali. In away it seemed like Von was protective of Attor even though he wasn't her's. He could be of course, but not with Kenny around. Again he had gotten himself in a mess and all he could feel was guilt about it.
Blinking the mischievous grin half worrying him, he would be on edge about all this for awhile now. He made a sound as she grabbed him he hadn't really expected it. He walked over to the table and looked over the ingredients. " Its either some sort of draught or perhaps doxiecide?" Attor asked before looking at her to see if he was right.
