It was surprising to Yalei, how much love she could have for another. She loved her Sisters and others of the Flock, but it was now a different kind of love... Something that felt like it was beyond this earth, maybe even that lifetime. That was the only way Yalei knew how to describe the way she felt.
Yalei was still unwilling to tell her Sisters that she had mated for life. She knew that there were others like her that chose to do so, but the majority just had a favorite, not a stallion that they would mate for life for. Maybe later in their lives they would choose to mate for life, but not as young as Yalei. But still... The young harpy mare liked having Lumen by her side and knew that she wouldn't be able to bare him being with another, even if he always came back to her.
Since she met the stallion, it was clear to others that she was a lot happier. There was this natural glow to her that never seemed to go away. Yalei approached her nest smiling. Lumen would be there. He knew she didn't feel safe him going anywhere without her, so she asked him to ask her to accompany him if he wanted to go out.
She was humming as she approached the area and saw Lumen there. Yalei smiled brightly. The last few days, Yalei had been thinking of something special to give Lumen and had finally decided. The secret she was holding inside was really, really hard not to let out. "Lumen," she said sweetly. "I'm back... With a surprise!"

Life had been different in what was called the "Flock". He didn't have the same freedoms he'd had before he came, but he really couldn't care less. Some stallions would find this binding or it would feel like chains but it wasn't that not really. It was a kind of tying situation though, but not a bad one. It was a situation that bound him closer to the one he love. Others may look at that as a type of prison but it wasn't. What could be better than to be tightly tied to the one you love forever? And he loved Yalei with every fiber of his being, with every ounce of his soul. There was not a single space in his body that did not harbour love for her. Her very presence made him feel light and airy, made him feel as if had wings. His head raised, coming out of his reverie at the sound of humming. It was the familiar tune that she always hummed and he could feel a smile spreading across his face. When she came close, he nuzzled her sweetly. "I've missed you," he whispered to her. He always feared when she was gone. She was so tiny, even if she was quit dangerous if she needed to be. His eyes lit up. "What better surprise could I have than to have you home?"

Yalei let out a soft, girlish giggle. Lumen's words almost always made her cheeks flush red. It sometimes felt a little bit embarrassing, but she loved every moment of it. If any of her Sisters ever caught her blushing this much, she'd probably withdraw a bit in which she would probably not do under any other circumstance.
She nuzzled the stallion's neck just a little bit. "I missed you too." Yalei looked at her small home and pouted. "I'm sorry I don't have much for you to do... I mean, you could probably join the other males of the Flock if you wanted to.." Her mind wandered after that. "I think I'm just slightly possessive of you." Yalei smiled as she thought the last sentence in her head.
"I hope sooner as well so we can spend more time together," Yalei told Lumen with a broad smile on her face. Lumen always seemed to make her day, and she his, but today Yalei had something more special planned. Letting out a sharp whistle, Yalei looked up until a bird landed on her rump.
"My dear Lumen, this little fella is for you!" Yalei nuzzled the bird warmly until she managed to coax him to fly onto Lumen's back. "He doesn't have a name or anything, but he's yours to keep! I even gave him one of my feathers as an accessory, so you can always have a little bit of me with you at all times!"
Yalei's smile still held strong. "Maybe with this bird by his side.. I might be willing to let him wander more..." More freedom was something she wanted for Lumen, but she also didn't want himself getting into trouble. Instead of making her decision about letting Lumen be around other members of the Flock, Yalei decided that she could probably make a better decision another day.

He breathed in the scent of her, like fresh flowers and cool air. There always lingered the smell of metal on her skin from her armour. His heart nearly burst as she spoke of how she missed him. He loved the sound of her voice, the way she moved...everything about her. "I'm content to sit and think of you, and I'd rather not." He made a little face, "The females that come around kind of....scare me." He nuzzled her again, his heart fluttering for her even more. He didn't want them to look at him at all. He listened as she spoke of her gift, and when she called to it a bird fluttered down on to her. He was gorgeous, light and lithe. He tilted his head at him, the intelligent eyes looking at him. "Thank you," he breathed out. He'd never had a gift before like this. As the bird settled on his back, he spoke to it softly and reassuringly. He would teach it how to speak to him if it couldn't already, it would be his best friend aside from Yalei. "I will call him Kuekuatsu," he smiled at Yalei and nuzzled her affectionately. "Have I ever told you the story of Kuekuatsu and the moon?"

"Aww.... He's scared of the other members!" Yalei couldn't decide if that was a good or bad thing. The good part was that she could be greedy and just keep all his beauty and love to herself. The bad part was... The other members were not supposed to be scary! Sure, some where, but not all of them. But again, Yalei shook it off. It wasn't the time to think of the Flock, but of her and Lumen.
Yalei was glad that Lumen liked his gift. Well, she was more than glad. It was the first time she really had to pick a gift for someone, and the bird seemed to be perfect for Lumen. "You're very welcome, my sweet!"
"He will also make a good messenger if you ever need me while I'm away. You might be scared of the other Flock members, but I'm scared for you in general." The last part made her blush again, but when Lumen chose the name 'Kuekuatsu' and offered to tell the story behind the name, Yalei quickly grew more curious than bashful.
With wide eyes, Yalei nuzzled him again and then looked into the eyes. "I'd love to hear the story. I don't think I've ever heard it!"

He nuzzled her gently, "I'm always scared when I'm away from you. What if something happens?" He nodded as she spoke of his gift, "Perfect, now I'll never be that seperated from you. He'll find you and I won't have to worry." He nuzzled her cheek. "My mother's name was Nokomis and she told me this story as a foal. I still remember it, it always comes to mind when I look at the moon at night." He looked up at the clear sky, "Did you know the Moon had a lover?" He didn't wait for her to answer, "Because she did. His name was Kuekuatsu. "The sky is a place called the spirit world, and the stars that roam about our spirits up there. The Moon and Kuekuatsu fell in love and they went everywhere with each other. They were deliriously happy. They would do anything for each other. "But another spirit named Trickster was jealous of what they had so he decided to do something about it. He told Kuekuatsu that the Moon was very happy, but that there was one thing missing that she wanted. Wouldn't he like to give that to her? Kuekuatsu, of course, wanted to give the Moon anything she desired because he loved her so much. And so the Trickster convinced Kuekuatsu that he should go to earth to bring the Moon flowers." He pulled an orchid from his hair, "Just like these. "But Kuekuatsu didn't know that once you leave the spirit world you can never go back. And now, he stars up at the Moon each night and cries her name. He howls for he has lost the Moon. He can never touch her, never be with her again. Forever seperated." He paused for a moment, "That is the story of Kuekuatsu and the Moon." He looked down into Yalei's eyes. "You are my Moon, and I don't want to be separated from you. Kuekuatsu will make sure that doesn't happen, he will make sure that we can always find our way back to each other." He nuzzled Yalei again, "I like to think that the Moon left the spirit world and joined them, that Kuekuatsu and the Moon did hold each other once again."

Yalei loved Lumen's story and Lumen himself, but couldn't help wandering back to what he had said in the beginning. The Harpy knew that Lumen had come with her willingly since the beginning, but she still sometimes felt bad for keeping him from his family. If he had a mother, he was for sure to have siblings as well as a father somewhere.
She couldn't even imagine herself not being able to see her Sisters of the Flock, let alone her own flesh and blood.
There was something inside of her that wanted to bring it up again, Lumen and his family, but she was so happy with him. Yalei felt greedy, in all honesty. "I'm surprised you remember such a sad story. I mean... I know the underlying story is of love, but..." Yalei paused.
"I don't think I'd let the love of my life leave my side, even if it was to be for a wonderful gift." Yalei smiled and nuzzled Lumen's neck. "Never leave me for such a gift, do you understand? Having you is enough."

Lumen once again buried his face in her feathers. "I would leave you for nothing, I will trust no words that take me away from you but your own." He nuzzled her gently. For a moment his mind flickered to his family, to his sister. What must it feel like to be suffering through losing two of their children? But he could not, would not go back and leave Lumen. He parted away from her quietly, "Will I ever get to meet your family?" He nipped at her shoulder playfully. So far, most of his time was spent in her nest away from everyeone.

"My family..." She paused. There was no reason for Lumen not to meet them, but at the same time, Yalei just had a lot of fear in her heart. It was quiet for a while longer while she tried to think of the right words to say. "Maybe eventually? I see them from time to time since we are of the same herd, but I know that they do different things, and well, are busy with the Flock most of the time. I'd assume anyways..."
"There are times when they come to visit me here. They know where I am since I chose this particular area because it's quite yet not too far off. Though not too many members outside my family know of here though." Yalei knew that all of the area around her was the Flock's territory, but the grove was well hidden and was harder to find unless someone was really looking for it.
Yalei paused again and wondered. "I know where my family is... But what about yours? Would they like me or think of me as repulsive? What if they don't like me? What if..." She didn't know what to think, but would Lumen's family approve of her? Approve of the culture she grew up with? Yalei realized, at that point, that there was a part of her that wanted to leave...

Lumen watched the sadness pass across her face like a shadow. He could see something of pain there, of worry. "Tell me your thoughts?" He asked her. "My family...." He stopped to think of them. "My parents aren't together anymore. They would miss me terribly. They would be glad I am happy though. But...they lost a basket, stolen by a skinwalker." He paused for a moment and sighed, "Honestly, they're probably scared of what's happened to me. But I'm not leaving you," he quickly added on. "My father followed his path and I will follow mine and love you till the end of my days." He wished he could let them see that he was happy, "But they would love you, because I love you. And when they got to know you, they would love you so much more."
