Returning to The Sea

The sun had climbed high in the sky when the sound of shrieks stirred her from her usual ritual of caring for King. What in the world was that sound? She couldn't quite put her claws on it. She shifted about trying to get a good view of her surroundings. From high on top of a hill, she could see down to the sea. There was a ship there with a party of people reaching out into the low grounds below. It seemed they were searching for something or someone. Embrez tilted her head in thought. What would sea creatures want with items or people of the land? It wasn't something she should bother herself with. What if they were dangerous people? Perhaps she should head back down to King and make sure he's alright. With that in mind, Embrez slid down the slope and made her way back to the Cloyster to rest. The herbs weren't ready just yet anyways.

She found the Cloyster exactly where he was stuck except surrounded by some weird watery woman and a Pokemon she recognized as a Riolu. The woman was interesting. She was scaly with a fish tail and water that roiled about like the angry sea, flowing down her back. Strange. The woman was poking and prodding King. She was talking the Riolu who stood silently by her side. Embrez was worried. What if they tried to eat King? She couldn't let such a thing happen. He has family to return to!

With that in mind, Embrez charged forward with a stick in hand. “Leave him alone!” she cried as she readied herself to crash into the watery woman. Instead, she found herself in the arms of the Riolu who caught the entirety of her force and still stood. The woman rose and eyebrow as she gazed down at her curiously.

“Is this Cloyster a friend of yours?” The fish lady asked, her voice held a sort of kindness to it though remembering the other strange lady that came around, Embrez wasn't quick to trust.

“Leave us alone!” She thrashed about in the Riolu's grip. It amazed her how a Pokemon half her size could hold her back.

In fact, he was the one to speak between soft grunts. “We won't hurt you. I can promise you this, my lady Charmander. Please allow us to help your friend. He needs to be returned to the sea. I hope you can see this.” He was soft-spoken and gentle. There was something in his voice that told her that she could trust him.

“Promise?” Embrez spoke. She wanted to hear the pact they make. She knew that King needed to return home to the sea. He was slowly dying up here even though she tried hard to care for him. Leaning over, she gave the big, old Cloyster a hug. She gazed up at the two strangers before her expectantly.

The woman smiled and nodded. “Promise.” Kneeling on one knee, she put out a scaly hand towards Embrez who in turned stared at it in confusion. “A pact. Put your hand... er, claws in mines and we'll seal the deal.” She stood there for a moment more as Embrez stared at her hands baffled.

“Isn't words enough?” she replied, tilting her head. This act was uncommon and she'd never seen it done before. “Why do we need to do this?”

The fish woman took the Charmander's paws and grasped it firmly between her two hands. They were bigger, much bigger than Embrez's and oddly slimy like some smooth moss covered rock. Well, if the rock was scaly. “It's a tradition I hold dear. It's something an old friend of mines would do to ensure me that he'll come through.” She sounded sad as if reliving a painful memory as she spoke thought it quickly shook off as she started off again. “I'm Qwee and this Riolu is Ryder.”

Ryder bowed deeply to Embrez which made her giggle. “Oh, you don't have to bow to me.” These people seem really nice. As Qwee pulled away, Embrez politely curtsied to the two of them. “My name is Embrez and it's a pleasure to meet the two of you.” She pulled away from King completely now as she faced the two of them. “So, you two will help move King back to the ocean?”

The Riolu, Ryder was first to responded with a nod, saying, “That is our promise and we stick to our promises.” It brought a smile to the Charmander's cheeks when he said that. These people were definitely good people! “How long has he been like this?”

Embrez shook her head. “I lost count already.” Before she could say anymore, Qwee paralyzed her with a sharp whistle. “Owwie” She rubbed her head as she gazed up in confusion at the fish lady whose pointer and thumb rested in her mouth still. “What was that for?”

The answer came in a form of heavy thumps that echoed across the valley. The sound of smaller trees tumbling down and the rustle and snaps of the larger ones being moved aside was a startling sound. Embrez backed up, unsure of what was coming her way. Ryder caught hold of her shoulder and mumbled softly to her, “Do not be afraid. It is only a friend.” His insurance gave her some comfort, but it wasn't until the trees parted and an odd man stepped out from it. Large and bulky, the man had eight muscular arms with features of an octopus.

“Ye called, Captain? What is it that ye needs?” he rumbled, meeting the fish woman, Qwee in the middle of the clearing.

“Osk,” spoke Qwee, her voice commanding yet gentle as she pointed down to King. “Move him, but gently. Poor guy has been stuck here for far too long.”

His eyes went over the young Charmander's form in confusion. “Who is the young one?” he asked, kneeling down to her level.

The riolu sensed her uneasiness and pressed a hand to her shoulder. “It is fine, my lady. It is only Osk..” He turned to the large merman and smiled. “This is Embrez. She is the caretaker of this Cloyster who we are to save.”

Osk grinned and bowed his head. “Aye, we be saving your friend, wee one.” Straightening up, he faced King. Gingerly grasping the hard shell of the Cloyster, Osk pulled up. It took him a few good pulls before finally setting King free. With the Cloyster freed, Osk quickly made his way across the forest. “Come now. It's time to dis Cloyster back to sea.”

Embrez had quickly followed after him, keeping pace with the large man until they made it to the ocean. His strides were long and quick, it was hard for her to keep up. If it was not for the Riolu who swept her up and carried her along. Ryder's stride kept up with Osk's. When they finally made it to the ocean, the man came to complete halt.

“Alrighty, wee ones. I'mma take im' in.” murmured Osk as he slowly inched into the water. Embrez waited on the shore letting the waves roll over her feet. She pulled up her tail as she watched Osk disappear into the water with King.

She waved with one empty claw and called out to her dear friend. “I'll miss you, King!” She could feel her lips quivering. Her big ol' green eyes watering. Embrez was happy to know that he'll be with his family once more, but it's always sad saying goodbye. “Goodbye!”

The big merman dipped her friend into the water and held him there for what seemed like forever before Osk moved again. He turned back towards them and gave both Ryder, Embrez, and Qwee who joined them recently, two big thumbs up. “He wants ta thank the purdy lady who took such good care of im'!”

“Is he here still?” she asked, “Feeling better?”

“Aye, he's still here and he's talk'n like there's no tomorrow. Seems he's quite happy to be home! Ye be treatin' im' right, miss. He's talk'n much about how you cared for im'.”

She chuckled gleefully. “I'm glad to hear it! Tell him that I'll miss him and that he should come and visit sometime!”

“Aye, I will.” He sank down to the sea and disappeared from view of the world.

Qwee turned towards her and patted Embrez's head. “You should leave this place...and before you argue about it. There should be others heading here. I'm sure Entei will hold out fine...”

Eyes widening, she gazed up at the mermaid. “H-how do you k--”

“Sshh, we won't let anything happen to a place so sacred, but you should head further up the banks. There should be a mountain range not to far from here. Seek out aide from the Pokemon there, ask for a Tin and he'll help you.”

“B-but-”

“Go.. they'll be here soon.” Her words seemed final. Enough so that Embrez did not wish to fight anymore. The urgency in Qwee's voice was enough for her to run back to the cave, leave a carving behind to tell Entei where she went and leaving quickly with the small precious items that she had.

Thus begun her journey to a new home...

Damsels and Heros

She had journeyed taken a turn for the worse on her way to the mountain ranges Qwee had specified. Embrez had gotten lost. Lost enough to the point where she wasn't sure where that mountain range was. Perhaps leaving was a bad idea. She wasn't far from home it was easy for her to turn around and head back, but turning back, she found a large bug in her way. It let out a roar as it's pincher clicked together and locked around the trunks of a tree. With another ear splitting roar, the tree was snapped in half with a mighty crunch! The sound made Embrez jump. “W-wah...” she backed away in fear, startled and filled with regret. She backed away and bumped into something fuzzy. Whirling around, she found herself staring into the back of a Spinarak and begun shrieking and running was sent running in a random direction.

She ran faster than she ever ran before. “When did bugs get so biiiiiiiiiiiig!?” Embrez cried, scurrying as quickly as possible until she crashed head first into a large web. “Oh no, oh no, oh no...” She nearly fainted when she saw another Spinarak descend down on her, but a voice caught her attention.

“Hold on, I'mma pry you loose!” spoke the firm voice of a boy. Embrez felt someone tug her from the web and her form pulled into a light embrace. “Sorry if she messed your web up, ma'am. Seems like she was spooked.” Gazing down at the Charmander in his arms, Tin smiled. “Hi, I'm Tin. You alright?”

Embrez was still panicked and now she was confused. “T-Tin? I-”

He pulled her to his chest. “Easy now. I'll carry you to where ever you need to go.” Orange feathers poked out of his head making it obvious that he was once a Torchic.

She tilted her head, unsure of what to say. The human like Torchic walked for a while in the silence before she finally spoke up. “D-do you know a fish lady?” asked Embrez awkwardly. Tin paused, his head tilted as she gazed down at the young Charmander. It was then that she recalled that she had not introduce herself. Just as he opened his mouth to begin an answer, she quickly shoved in. “Oh, my name is Embrez! S-sorry for not introducing myself sooner...”

“Um, I know a fish lady.” replied Tin oddly, he shifted around trying to gain a better grip on the female named Embrez. He didn't wanna drop a lady on her bum because of his grip slipping. She seemed a bit fragile. “Her name is Qwee. She's really nice, but kinda strange.” Smiling down at her, Tin nodded. “And it's a pleasure to meet you, Embrez.”

Her eyes widen for a moment before finally relaxing into the odd boy's arms. “Oh, thank goodness.” she murmured, sighing deeply with relief. “She sent me to find you.”

“And I guess I found you instead,” he chuckled lightly. “Which is good, I suppose.”

“T-Thank you for saving me.” she replied, leaning against Tin. He was oddly warm and she found an comfort in that. To her it felt like there was a fire within him. They walked for a little longer in silence. One not sure what to say to the other. It was a while more of silence before Embrez finally spoke up again. “So... where are you going?”

Tin looked confused, gazing around at their surrounding. “Hm, I'm not sure. I'm looking for someone to help our forests grow!” He scratched his head, gently running his fingers through his feathered hair. “The trees are gone and many people are with out of homes.. so, I have to find someone who can help me soon.”

Embrez blinked up at him and in a very small seeming voice, she asked him. “May I come along with you?”

The torchic boy paused for a moment. They say first impressions are normally one's lasting impressions and the first he'd had of her was quite lasting. She seemed timid and one not so suited for the tough traveling he'll be doing. Especially if bug pokemon scared her like that, but looking into her eyes, he had a feeling that she was stronger than she seemed. With a crooked smile and a soft tug on his feathery earring, Tin nodded his head. “Sure you can come along. Just promise me that you'll be careful along the way.”

Giggling, Embrez replied, “I'm always careful. I'm just not used to bugs that big!” She huffed a bit, trying to gaze everywhere, but his eyes.

“Well, if you say so.” Tin casually shrugged. He chose to believe her. Why not? He doesn't know her and hasn't allowed her to prove herself more than what she seemed yet. “Do you want me to put you down?”

“Yes, please.”

With a silly grin still plastered on the boy's face, he gently released her. He paused for a moment to allow her to gather her composure before continuing his stride in a direction. A random direction. Granted one chosen by his gut, still...

Embrez sighed. She'd followed him in silence long until her feet begun to ache and the sun slowly begun to set behind a set of trees and now she wanted to rest. “Do you know where you're going?”

He stopped abruptly and slowly turned to face his new companion. She saw it in his half smile. In the way he scratched his cheek and in the way he chuckled nervously. He was completely lost. So lost that he was leading them in circles. Embrez sighed heavily. “Here. Let me lead.” Padding off ahead of him, she lead him warily through the dense forest. She was a nervous and as it got darker, she was downright afraid. Her eyes continually darted back to Tin for comfort. Each time her eyes fell over him, she found him to be completely calm. Calm enough to hum.

Eventually, she couldn't take it anymore. It was dark and she was far from home. She was hungry and her throat was parched. Embrez was strong enough not to burst into tears or throw a fit or anything, but she was downright uncomfortable. This was beyond her safety bubble and she wanted to run back to that zone. Tin must have saw her discomfort. He lead down and picked her up while giving room for her tail to burn brilliantly. She felt a little more comforted being held against the warmth of his chest. She really wondered why he was so abnormally warm? Was it a Torchic thing? She felt herself worrying about it more and more until finally, she could help asking. “Why are you so warm?”

He tilted his head as he thought of the answer. Maki had told him once, but it felt like a long time ago. Gathering together his thought on the subject left him feeling a little homesick. He could let that show. Tin took the path of playing the tough guy because he knew that his new companion needed a pillar to lean on. She seemed new to this as much as he was. “My mom said that Torchic's have fire in their bellies. It keeps me warm and allows me to spit fire from my mouth.”

“You can spit fire out of your mouth?” questioned Embrez

“Can't you?” he retorted, eyebrows raised incredulously. “I always thought it was a fire type thing!”

“Is it?

“Guess not... maybe it's different for every pokemon. Yeah, that's probably the case.” She noticed that he was always smiling. When was he not? Tin seemed rather lighthearted for a boy his age and for a Torchic who was in the dark. He walked them towards a small hillside with an overhang that would protect them from wind and rain. After making sure she was safe and sound, he pulled out items for the odd hump on his back. One of which being a comfy roll of fluff and the other was something crunchy that he handed her before giving her a handful of berries. She took her time eating, wondering what else he had in that pack of his.

“Are you still hungry?” he asked, a hint of worry in his voice.

She glanced at him for a moment as she slowly savored the flavor of the berries. They were a bit more bitter than she would've liked them, but Embrez wasn't picky. Rubbing her belly as she shook her head, she gave him her answer as she finished off the last bit of berry. “No, I'm pretty full.” She savored the taste of the fruit before asking, “So why are you different?”

“What do you mean?” asked Tin as he stuffed his face full of crackers. He scarfed them down hungrily, cheeks filled with the crunched up bits.

“You're not like the others.”

“Well, I hope so. Mom always says I'm special and dear to her heart!”

“No, not in that way, I mean you're... tall.” She felt embarrassed, unsure of how to ask and hopefully not insult him. She wasn't really sure about how he'd react and the not knowing bothered her a little. Wiggling in place, Embrez couldn't help a sigh as her train of thought continued only to be interupted by the harsh gurgling sound of Tin slurping down water to keep from choking.

“That's unusual? I was told it's the normal size for a boy my age!”

“Normal size for a boy? For a Torchic boy?” Tilting her head, she thought hard on the idea and pulled away even more puzzled. Every idea she had of Torchics were different than what he was presenting her with.

He looked down for a moment and frown. “You mean why I'm all weird shaped?” His lips pressed together in almost a duck like way as he thought. Tin seemed to be thinking a little too hard, the smoke from his gears grinding within was almost visible by the ever so patient Embrez. When he finally answered, he smiled and shrugged casually as if it was nothing. “I made a wish.”

“A wish did that to you?”

“Well, yeah. Sorta.”

“What did you wish for?” prodded Embrez, feeling more curious about her new companion. She wondered how it would feel like to be hybrid like Tin. If it'll be any different than how she is now. She thought of it and quickly shook her head, dismissing it. The idea of the power that will come with such a form scared her off. Worried and concerned of responsibilities she must take over her powers already, she wasn't ready for another jump as she's growing into herself just now. “Though, how did that happen? Was it really the star?”

Tin smiled warmly as he leaned back onto the rocky walls of their shelter. He looked distant, if not dreamily into space as if he was recalling the very moment of his wish. “It was amazing. This light washed over me and there was a voice that called out to me, asking me what I'd wish for! So I told it that I wanted to be like the brave heroes from the tales that Qwee and Maki would tell to me so that I can protect the people I care about.”

She nodded, noting his smile never faltering even with the obvious backlash of his wish. Was this what happened to the lady who trapped them in her cave? Embrez's thoughts lingered there, looking dazed to the talkative Torchic. He continued talking without noticing that she had stopped listening to him.

“Maki was worried at first, but when she got used to the thought, she was fine with it. She said she would accept me for me and that made me very happy! I'm glad to have her love, you know? It's nice to be loved no matter how weak and small you are! Though that kinda makes me want to be stronger. You know, to be able to protect the ones I care about?” He paused for a moment to gaze over at his companion and gently poked her shoulder. “Do you know what I mean?”

Embrez snapped back to reality by the second poke. “Hey, are you okay?” He was about to prod her one more time when she reached out and touched his hand, lowering it to the ground.

“Yes, I'm fine. Just thinking...” she paused for a moment, not really wanting to elaborate. She didn't want to drag on the silence or allow him to pursue the topic any further on how she was feeling. Embrez didn't want to worry him. “So, you want to grow stronger for your family? What if you can't control the power that you gain? What if you hurt someone?”

A heartbeat of silence passed through them before Tin broke it with a loud hearty laugh. He slapped his knees before running his hands through his feathery hair. “Ah, don't worry. Whatever power I have, I'll learn to control it and I won't hurt anyone with it because it's my powers and I'll have control over it. I will grow stronger for my family and because you're here with me, I'll grow stronger for you, too.” He smiled softly to soothe her worries as Tin clasped his hand around her two tiny claws. “You seem like a bit of a worry wart. Well, don't worry so much. I got this! I'll take care of the two of us!”

Smiling, she nodded, giving into him this one night. This strange boy is right. She does worry a little too much. Perhaps he's not so careless. Maybe he can actually take care of the both of them. She tried to settle down, try to relax, but found it moot. She was worried about the tomorrow's. Nothing really was planned, they didn't know where they were going or how they were going to get there? Not knowing would give them many opportunities to land in all kinds of trouble! The thought of that was nearly too much to bare. They needed to be careful and she had a strong feeling in her gut that he was anything, but careful.

She pulled away from him, jolting out of his grip. “I-I'm sorry. I need to know how much supplies do we have? Do we have enough food? If not, perhaps we can spend tomorrow looking for food...” Her gaze lowered as she ran a claw along her cheek bone, following the curvature up and down as she paced the cavern in uncertainty. “Or where are we going? You mentioned looking for someone to help you fix your forest... where do we find someone like that? Or an item...” She whirled around on her heels and stared up at him with such intensity as she continued to be an inquisitor. “Whose destroying your forest and why would they do such a thing? Don't they know all the creatures that depend on those forests? Also, will you take me home afterward since my home is so far away and I'm not quite sure where we are now... Oh dear.” She was looking flustered now. Her tail burned bright enough to light up the darkness as her stress seem to pile up until it looked as if she was about to explode from all the worrying she was doing.

Tin quickly threw his arms around her, tenderly pulling the Charmander to his chest. “It's going to be okay. I promise. We'll figure it out. Even if it's just a step at a time. We'll figure it out tomorrow together, okay?” He sighed lightly, petting her head. “Just calm down and breath. Everything will be alright.”

From where she stood, she could hear his heart pitter-patter in his chest and she blushed. Gazing up for a moment, she whispered in a soft voice, “You promise?” He didn't reply. Instead he fell over snoring, holding her tightly to him. His face pressed against the top of her head as she slept heavily. She was stunned at first, but those feelings were washed away when she heard in a quiet murmur between breaths.

“I....promise”

Somehow, she knew all would be well and with that knowledge, she too joined him in the world of dreams.

Safety Dance

Two weeks had passed since she joined up with Tin. During those two weeks she'd run into more trouble than she had ever gotten herself into since birth. Enough trouble for her to begin fearing for both of their lives in the long run. Between dodging angry pokemon who were twice their size and traps to running out of food and nursing Tin after he'd eaten a poison mushroom, Embrez felt like she was quickly aging from the stress.

This time they were trekking across a mountainous biome in search for food. Why mountain? She had once asked and he replied with a smirk, “Because I once lived in a mountain and there was tons of food there!” She couldn't quite disagree. She'd live in a mountain prior to being dragged along on this nature hike. The Charmander nearly forgot why she left home in the first place and a part of her still regretted it. Here she was in a mountain surrounded by nothing, but boulders. No trees, just shrubs, and the biggest things around here was the rock formations. Giving herself a mental kick in the rear, she went on regretting her decision. Though a part of her was happy. If she wasn't here, who knows how injured this boy would be. Arceus above, he was reckless. Probably be dead if it wasn't for her putting out her neck. That thought alone gave her comfort and purpose. At least she could have that.

They hopped from rock to rock, Tin on occasion scurrying ahead of her with skips and jumps giving Embrez a run for her money. Honestly, the boy had nearly no sense in his head. She sighed heavily at the thought before pausing. She noted something about the rocks they were standing on and how the seem to connect one after another to an oddly shaped rock formation. It wasn't until Tin started to prod into the in-betweens muttering excitedly about how odd the rocks were did it hit Embrez. “Stop it, Tin! Don't do that! It's not what you --” and yet it again, it was too late.

With a roar of pain, the Onyx reared it's head up from it's resting place and begun to thrash just as the stick Tin was prodding it with wedged itself between the stones.

“Ooops, guess that answers the question!” cried Tin in alarm as he skittered down the side of the behemoth of a Pokemon, catching Embrez under his arm. “Time to get off this rock!”

“I told you not to do it!” crowed Embrez angrily as she flailed about in the Torchic's grasp. “I told you so, but you never listen to me.”

“You could've said something sooner!”

“Who pokes stones that are oddly connected!? Have you not seen an Onyx before?”

“Well, yeah I have, but they're never that big!”

“What kind of Onyxs have you been looking at!?”

“I don't know! They're smaller where I'm from!”

Their conversation didn't get far as the sudden drop of land brought them both to a stand still. Growing along the side was a bamboo forest, it's foliage was thick enough that Tin could hardly see through the plants. Perfect.

A wild grin spread across his lips, one which Embrez did not like the look of. “No.” she murmured softly in fright with eyes wide. Her claws clung tightly to his arms as the rumble of the Onyx drew closer. “No.” she said a little louder, catching the attention of Tin who simple shrugged. “No!” Finally shouting it as the Torchic boy took a step back and jumped.

“Here we gooooooo~”

“Nooooooooooo~!”

Embrez cried as she swore she saw her life flash past her eyes. “Oh by sweet Arceus! We're going to die, we're going to die!”

“I got this.” answered Tin as he curled his body around Embrez's enveloping her with his warmth and taking most of the blows for her as they bounced from bamboo to bamboo. He kept an arm out to grasp on to bits of bamboo in an attempt to slow his descent. It worked to a degree, but when ground came into view, the two hit the ground with a loud umph.

“Well, that happened.” started Tin as he broke the moment of silence between the two. The faint roars of the angry Onyx echoed throughout the forest below. Even though the only other sound Embrez could hear was the sound of her heart thundering louder than any drum she'd ever heard. Her eyes were wide as she shook, breathing deeply to calm her self from the ordeal. Will she ever have a normal day with him?

“Hey, look there's so mushrooms over there!” Flat out dropping her on the ground, he scurried over to the oddly colored mushroom. It was large. Too big to be a normal mushroom.

'Not again..' she thought, realizing again that that was a Pokemon. “Don't touch it, Tin!”

His hands froze in place just around the base of the mushroom's stalk. “What, why? It's food and it's huuuuuuge!”

“I-It's a Pokemon, Tin. Like the large rock that turned out to be an Onyx?” She paused in her speech as the boy licked his lips and drew closer to it, mouth open for a bite. “Will you please listen to me!” she cried out, stomping her feet. The fire on her tail flared up as she gave him a near death stare. This was the angriest she'd ever felt and it frightened her.

The feel of anger coursing with power through her veins. Sensing a shift in her, Tin paused and dropped his hands. “What's wrong, Embrez?” he murmured, moving away from the mushroom like Pokemon. “Talk to me.” He seemed genuinely worried. Something that broke his normal carefree and nonchalant self. Reaching out, he touched her shoulder gently before pulling her into a tight embrace. “If it's for not listening to you earlier, I'm sorry.”

“I thought we were going to die.” she murmured, shaking in his arms. She was still mad at him. How could she not be? “You promised that you'd keep me safe. You haven't been doing that...”

He inhaled deeply, knowing that she was right. Tin knew he was wrong. It was everything against what he wanted, what he promised himself he'd do with the new powers.

“I'm sorry, Embrez. I didn't mean to drag you around like this. I just got caught up in the moment...guess I don't really think before I leap.”

“No you don't.” she shot back, features softening. “You really don't, but I suppose that's why you have me.” She gave him a big hug. “All I ask is for you to listen to me this time. Please?”

He sighed, pulling away from her. “Alright. You're right and I'm sorry for not listening, but--” He stomach growled loudly ignoring the intense moment that was happening. “Do you think we can find some food?”

She sighed, shaking her head. “Alright, alright. We can't let you die of hunger before we save your home.”

A Mentor

(After No Apologies and Beach Party)

Alisi felt a soft prod against her left cheek. It happened again and again with a whisper that sounded like pleading. “Please don't turn over. Please don't turn over.” It repeated. Over and over until she finally opened one of her heavy lidded eyes to find a small shiny Charmander staring back at her.

“So you've returned,” slurred Alisi in her sleepy stupor. “What do you need, little one?”

“Teach me how to become stronger.” replied Embrez. There was a certain fire of determination burning in her eyes, a spark the Groudon has seen before.

The large Pokemon groaned, carefully shifting so to not knock Embrez over. “What happened? Is it just you? Where's your ambitious friend?” There was a hint of worry in her tone. One that seemed to set the Charmander into her own fits of worry.

“I-I. Well, Tin...” She couldn't seem to find the right words. Her constant stuttering and mumbling gave Alisi a good reason to worry and wake. Allowing the lava on her claws sufficient time to cool, Alisi proceeded to pick up the smaller Pokemon and rest her on the spit of land where the two first met. The Groudon rested her chin on the edge of the ledge. Bringing herself almost to eye level with the panicked Embrez.

With a muffled yawn, she responded, “Speak to me. What's wrong?”

Embrez gave a soft sigh as her lips trembled. “I need to become stronger. Or at least I need to learn to control my strength.” She caught onto her sides as it seemed the tears were beginning to roll. “I couldn't do anything. My friends were getting hurt and all I could do was stand there in fear of what I could do. W-when I tried to do something, my friend was hurt.” Embrez collided into Alisi's nose, a sobbing mess. “Help me Alisi, help me become stronger. So Tin doesn't have to worry about me. I don't want to be afraid of myself.”

With one sharpened claw carefully placed under Embrez's chin, Alisi slowly raised the Charmander's gaze so that the two were eye to eye. “Don't cry, little one. There's no time to cry. Your training will begin now.” Her words were spoken tenderly, but there was a touch of a stern mother's voice in there that commanded the little one's attention. She couldn't stand seeing someone cry. She couldn't stand tears, really. Enough was shed in the times of war for land and sea that Alisi couldn't stand seeing it any longer. She gave Embrez a reassuring smile. “And with the training we'll be doing, you have no time to cry.”

She hiccuped into the end of her sobbing as she stared in awe at the large Groudon. “Training?”

“Yes, training. Under my teaching, you'll have a better understanding of the fire within you.”

Her eyes widen. “Really?”

“No more tears.” murmured Alisi, huffing softly as she gently rubbed away the tears. “Big girls don't cry if they can help it, okay?”

“Okay.” Embrez sniffled a few, but all in all she gave Alisi the biggest smile she could muster. “No more tears.”

“That's my girl. Now come, we've got some training to do.” With a snort, the large pokemon inwardly sighed. 'No more dreaming for a bit. Oh well, nothing wrong with living in the moment.' she thought to herself, giving a toothy grin. With that begun the long process training the young one. It was rigorous and Alisi cut no corners. By the end of these sessions, Embrez would either walk away from it learning a new lesson or completely drain of all energy and sense.

Falling Stars

It's almost been a month since she'd left Tin behind yet, he haunted her waking dreams. Pit falls, angry Pokemon, poison mushrooms; her dreams were wrought with worry. Some nights she could hardly sleep and it seemed that this was one of those nights. Rolling onto her feet, Embrez groggily shuffled off of Alisi's sleeping body. Careful not to awake the Groudon, she hopped off to the ledge and made her way through the cave system. She knew it well by now. Each winding passage was familiar to her, taking her to a different part of the tribe, but the route she choose this night would take her to the top of the volcano, right to the rim.

She followed the path, sighing heavily recalling how Tin used to walk far too closely to her during the nights. Nearly running her over or stumbling over her form. She missed it in a way, never completely understanding why he'd done it. Memories washed over her and stumbled a bit. She missed him and in a small way, she missed Kaiya. She felt guilty for dragging that poor Grovyle around, not really noticing how sad the girl looked. Now that she looked back on it, how could she not see it? Not see the pain that glimmered beyond the angry glares and looks of disapproval.

There were so many things that were left in question because she ran away from it all. She sighed heavily as she stepped out onto the world above. Her eyes searching the stars above the hazy red glow of lava. She recalled Alisi's sleep stories about how there is a Pokemon out there that grants wishes. She hoped with all of her heart that it was true. “If you can hear me out there, I have a wish that I want granted. Or if you want to grant it, if not that's fine too. It just means that I have to get more confident in myself...”

She sighed once more. “I wish I wasn't so afraid of my powers and had more confidence in myself. If – If I had the confidence, I wouldn't have ran from them. I would've stayed and we wouldn't have visited Ki. Everything would've been fine.” The tears were running again, she couldn't help them this time. Even though she promised to Alisi that she wouldn't cry, she couldn't help it. Her emotions were welling up just as the fire burning on her tail was growing as she lost control of her self. “Please. Give me the confidence I need to see them again.”

She would've said more, could've said more, but with eyes watered, Embrez couldn't have seen the glimmering star that fell straight into her being. She'd managed to catch it with open arms, feeling the warmth of the volcano at her back as the force of the star knocked her backwards. Now, the Charmander was falling as she world grew hazy and black as she fell into a slumber. A part of her knew she shouldn't fall asleep now. She should panicked. She was going to die if she didn't keep her eyes open, didn't think fast. How careless of her to sit at the edge of the volcano and wish. How unlike her. Oh, well. For now, she was falling and now she was dreaming. If the world ended now, she would've been happy because in her dreams she was reunited with Tin and she felt his warmth around her once more as he hugged her close.

New Dawns
675
The sweet dreams she’d been having were rudely interrupted by a constant prodding. It was an odd and sharp feeling in her side that only begun to bother her once she caught wind of the noise that accompanied it. Embrez’s thoughts slowly pieced together what sounded like incoherent mumblings, enough so to figure that the voice was Alisi and she seemed to be rather worried. The words as well were rather concerning. “I can’t tell if she’s breathing! Come on, Embrez, speak to me!” Even panicked, the large pokemon somehow managed to speak in a soft whisper as if she didn’t completely wish to wake the small charmander.

Becoming more aware of her surroundings, the girl begun to notice how wrong her body felt to her. It was subtle at first, but as she slowly begun to stir, Embrez realized that the proportions of her form was off. She bolted awake and was greeted by a mildly startled Alisi as she pulled away her claws. “You’re awake. Finally,” Breathed Alisi as she sighed heavily with relief. “I’m so happy to that you are alright.” The toothy grin that followed suit made her feel a sense of joy as if she was returning home after a long trip.

“Why wouldn’t I be alright?” Embrez asked, tilting her head. She tried to recall what happened the night before, but everything just seemed fuzzy to her.

If Groudon’s were able to completely give a look of confusion and uncertainty this would be the moment for it. “You were granted a wish last night, little one. You don’t remember that?”

It hit her like a ton of bricks. The faded memory became clear as day. There was a bright light that fell from the sky that smacked her right into the lava. Recalling this made her jump to her feet almost immediately, feeling a cold sweat come across her before her memory was jump started. It slowly sank in. This is was what happened to Tin. Her eyes widened as she felt up her new form. Embrez had gotten taller with longer legs and arms. She still had her tail and her butterfly pin that now sat on a red mane of hair.
“I’m like Tin now!” she exclaimed, startling Alisi.

“Yes, yes you are.” murmured the Groudon as she reached out one of her claws to keep the flailing Charmander girl from falling over. “Careful, dearie, careful. Wouldn’t want you falling into a pit of lava after such luck.”

There was a flair of determination in Embrez’s eyes as she gazed up at Alisi. “I want to learn how to make my own clothes!”

“You’re quite excitable, my dear. Making your own clothes, controlling your powers, and winning the heart of your beloved... my, you are quite ambitious. Nonetheless, you have some good teachers within reach and if you need me, you know where I am.” Embrez had been with her long enough to know when her expression was softening. In this moment, Alisi seemed so motherly and comforting. She ran up to her muzzle and gave the Groudon a big hug!

“I love you, Alisi! You’re the best.” She’d never felt like this for someone other than Entei; this familial feeling. She wondered why she didn’t feel this way for Tin.

The feeling of wonder on Tin’s behave lead her to the sense of emptiness. “I miss Tin.” She murmured, feeling the joy drain a bit from her being.

“I am quite sure you’ll see him again, my dear. I bet he’s looking for you right this moment.”

“You sure?”

“I’m sure, Embrez, as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow that you two will meet again. For now, let’s get some clothes for you.” The day was filled with wonder and long explanations of her new form. Any uncertainty she was once feeling about herself and future seem to fade with new endless possibilities before her. Embrez was sure that today will be a good day as will the days to come regardless of what happens.
