Far from the glittering carriages and ornate, wrought-iron gates, another, smaller one stands. Through this gate pass servants, entertainers, and those who supply the delicacies that grace the plates and platters within.

Just within the bounds of the fence waits a young man, a mischievous grin plastered across his face. Jeremy Alstan is barely recognizable, his thin frame wrapped in a formal uniform. The dark gold of his waistcoat might be considered flattering if not for the unfortunately gaudy sheen of its fabric. Through some miracle, or perhaps a particularly powerful variety of pomade, his wild blonde mop has been tamed, lying smooth and wavy on his head.

"I'm glad you guys could come make things interesting," the boy's green eyes sparkle as he looks the small group over, lingering briefly on Amelia before he jerks his head toward a small stand of decorative trees.

Leading his charges toward the shadowy area, blocked from the prying eyes of any guards who might be passing, Jeremy withdraws a small, dark cloth bag from his apron. "Wear these, they were given out to the people who were invited. They were hard to snag."

He grins as he hands around small, red enameled brooches bearing the insignia of the Aurentine ambassador before slipping the bag back into the pocket of his shockingly immaculate apron.

"You'll go in through the servants' quarters there," The young man gestures toward a wooden door, ivy growing around its frame. "It's basically a straight shot through there to the ballroom, and everyone's working so it's empty, I checked." He nods to emphasize his point.

Amelia took the item Jeremy offered, nodding thanks to the scrawny knight with a smile, putting it on appropriately. When the plan came up, she'd assumed he was nuts, but... Hey, a chance at free food was a chance at free food, and the green-haired senshi was happy to clean up for the evening.

For once, too, she looked ladylike. A soft deep blue gown clung to her upper body, the skirt billowing out in the present style, and a pale boa was wrapped about her shoulders, soft and warm-- probably helped by the ferret serving to play accessory. Amelia didn't want Mimi home alone, and her fuzzy guardian deserved noms to boot. Maybe even a prawn. The gloves were actually detached powder blue sleeves, the ensemble trimmed with white and powder blues, enough to let Mimi blend in, let the guardian hide on her.

Mind her hair would be doomed by the end of the night, but it was tied back tidily, even utilizing some pins to look nice, a few-- were those metal work? flowers strewn in.

Not to mention she wore make-up. Damnit, she was not getting caught without effort to blend in.

"Remember, Mimi, unless I indicate it's safe, no moving, no noise. I'll get you some yummies though. And if someone removes you, sneak away."

Mind if she did, Amelia had a feeling the ferret would have a new shiny.

---------

Mikhail smoothed his coat and tuxedo, hair tied back tidily, cleanly, face fresh shaven, and he had a carnation in a pocket. In a word, he looked... Elegant, pleased to still have such an ancient outfit. It was his heirloom and he treasured it, smoothing it as he nodded to Regan slowly, evenly as he applied his 'mark', smirking slightly at Jeremy in approval.

"I'll give you this, Jeremy. You did well." The pale-haired man chuckled softly. Atena would not approve of this, but, well, Atena wasn't there.

He hoped.

A chill figure towering over the group made him tense, turning to a massively tall person in a... Somewhat nice outfit.

--------------------------

Jack was bored, and there was a party. Parties meant alcohol. Alcohol meant a night off, and the Mercenary welcomed that, putting on her best outfit (Even if it wasn't feminine-- ******** the police, she'd fooled people about her gender before), and slid down, the black haired woman intending to sneak in through the back.

Except there was a pack of teens to young adults in line to do the same.

The ******** moved up silently, face grim before speaking, blessedly not hiding her gender from it.

"The ******** is this convention, are all of you sneaking in to party crash?" She raised a brow. "If so, mind another body?"

She smirked.

Regan grinned at Mikhail as she approached, offering him a brief wink from behind her delicate gold and black mask and lightly brushing his arm with her fingertips. Damn but that weird suit looked good on him. Her dark hair was pinned up behind her head, with a few locks deliberately left loose in the front.

The tight fitting bodice and belled skirt of her black dress accentuated the young woman's curves. Sheer black sleeves hang loosely from her shoulders and a small, golden tiara sits neatly in her hair.

"Thank you Jeremy," her usual grin spread across her partially concealed face as she pinned the brooch onto her dress.

She gave her younger courtmate an approving glance, "You clean up well, Amelia, not that you're not already cute," She shot the blushing waiter a roguish smile, "But the dress suits you. You too, Mimi." She offered the little ferret a brief pet on the back of her head before turning toward the new arrival.

She couldn't tell if this woman was hostile, and frowned slightly, instinctively stepping between her and Amelia. She lowered her guard slightly when the other spoke. "Yeah, feel free. Life would be boring without party crashers."

Still keeping herself between the newcomer and the others, she turned toward them, "Ready to go in?"

Staying still was hard. Not just physically, although the desire to twitch and scratch her nose or lift her head just a little to get a better whiff of something that smelled really good was almost impossible to resist. No, the real difficulty Mimi was having with staying still was just how boring this was!

And they weren't even inside the party yet!

"Ameliaaaaa, this is so boring, can't I explore on my own?" the cream-colored ferret asked in a very mature, grown up and wise voice.

No, she wasn't whining. Not at all. She just wanted to get inside and get to the shinies! And the food. The tasty noms that were waiting for her just inside that building!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Freddie wanted to be anywhere but here. This fancy party was nice and sure, it was a great way to show off your money and everything, but it was stuffy and boring! She wanted to go out, the the booths and the places where the more interesting things were! She didn't care that her grandfather was having some kind of talk with other bankers about important and incredibly dull business talk.

She wanted to go do something more fun!

Adjusting the collar of her rose-colored gown, she took advantage of how deep her grandfather was in conversation to start creeping away. Maybe if she mingled in the crowd long enough, she could leave... and maybe find that cute blond waiter again! She'd only seen him for a moment earlier, but she wanted to see him again.

He was cute, and she needed to know his name! It was Very Important that she find him and get his name. Yup. Because maybe he was really a spy and was here on a secret mission! And she could blow his cover and then he'd have to kidnap her and take her somewhere to question her, and her gown would get all torn and -

.... She stopped that thought there before her blush grew too intense. Clearly she needed to stop sneaking those naughty romance novels her Mama told her weren't good for her.

Oops.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nathan didn't like this. Sure, money was money and money was food ans a roof over his and his brothers' heads, but damn did he hate this job. Waiting on filthy rich snobs who looked past him like he wasn't there at best, or worse - stared at him a moment too long and murmured unkind things under their breath.

He almost wished Jeremy would pull one of his pranks just to mess with those rich assholes. Not that he would - even Jeremy knew better than to pull something during a big event like this... right?

Oh, who was he kidding. There was no way his brother was staying out of trouble for anything. He just needed to keep an eye out and make sure he could avoid the worst of it.

And maybe find a chance to deal with this ridiculously itchy collar. Ugh.

"Thanks. Dora and Code could do with some good eats too." Jack nodded, smirking and oddly contented thinking of her siblings. Yes, good food was important, especially with Dora barely a teen.

Amelia pet Mimi.

"You know the plan. I walk in, get in the crowd, and you 'wake up' and act wild, then 'escape' so you can. And steal a prawn for numnums." Amelia nodded. Few could eat after a 'wild' ferret did. But then, Mimi was her baby, not some mere wild beast. She smiled a little at Regan, shyly.

"Thanks. Not too much?"

Looking around for any others who might be coming, Jeremy quickly motioned the small group toward the door.

"I can't get caught here, I mean, I could but it would be bad, I don't want to get my brother fired too."

His voice is a little wistful, as though he wished he could join in the fun. But then it was almost enough to see that he was making his new companions happy. Almost.

Ah well.

With a quick wave back toward them, he hurried through a door slightly to the right of the servants' entrance.

For a brief moment you hear the sounds of a busy kitchen, and someone beginning to shout at the boy for his disappearance, then the door shuts and silence is restored.

Through the door to the servants' quarters you see a fairly dark room, a couple rows of wooden bunks are lined against the walls of the room.

In spite of the roughness of the furnishings, the impression these quarters give is one of cleanliness and order. Past the servants' quarters you hear the sounds of a party, laughter and excited murmuring mingle with the clinking and clattering of dishes and glasses.

Should you choose to pass through the heavy wooden doors that separate the ballroom from the rest of the embassy, you will be greeted by the glittering sight of dozens of partygoers. You may notice Jeremy, moving through the crowd bearing a heavily laden tray of drinks, occasionally plucked off by a passerby, usually without acknowledgment of the young man carrying them.

On an upper tier of the ballroom is a beautiful young woman, laughter on her face as she talks with the small group of women gathered around her. Those who read the newspapers might recognize her as the wife of the ambassador, and the hostess of the party, seeing unfit to disguise her pretty face with a mask like so many of her guests.
