Hanja let out a frustrated whine. He had been on the run for the past two weeks now. Thanks to two stupid, self-righteous lions, Hanja had lost yet another robbery. The piece had been really nice too; a necklace, gold, with small rubies and emeralds embedded in it. It would have fetched quite a nice price. "Would have" being the key phrase, Hanja thought to himself sullenly. Damn felines. Even hyenas were better than that lot.
He was hungry, tired, and still sore from being thwarted by those two hulking lugs. The wild dog could only hope that he had lost them in the chase. He was pretty confident that he had. If there was one thing Hanja was better at than conning (well, and flirting), it was getting away. The dog had led his pursuers through rivers, mud, more rivers, and even a few piles of elephant dung. Hanja was still a little bit wary, but then again, he was always like.
He needed to make another successful operation though. Then he could take off and disappear into the wind like he always did. And this time, no lion was going to get the better of him.

It was hard to admit. Her cubs weren't really cubs anymore. In fact, they were closer to adols now. Zenobia was trying to tell herself that she and Athena had raised them well. She couldn't explain it to herself why she was getting more and more antsy the older they got. Which was why she once again found herself out away from the den. With the rest of Athena's hoard watching the site, she knew they were safe.

The pale lioness had thrown herself down into some shade. She really needed peace and quiet to work through her mind. Of her first litter, only one cub had remained. Zenoba was as loyal and caring for her as she could have wished. His father, per the agreement, had taken his siblings back to his home pride. Was it perhaps she was missing them and fearing her latest litter as leaving her? Zenobia couldn't deny that. A movement caught her red eyes and she looked toward it. She growled softly to herself as she saw the wild dog intruding upon her peace.

Hanja's ears perked up at the sound of a growl. His hackles shot up along his back, muscles tensed and ready to bolt. That damn lion hadn't found him, had he? Hanja could have sworn that he had lost him days ago! The dog's eyes darted around, looking for a flash of red and black. Instead, a pale white lioness came into view. Hanja nearly laughed with relief. The old biddy was just growling at him for getting up in her space.
The old biddy also had some nice jewelry. Some very nice silver jewelry. Hanja's mind began working. This could very well be the opportunity he had been waiting for. But if the lioness was growling at him just for getting too close, how was he going to be able to get the jewelry off of her? The dog ran through his list of cons. She didn't seem like the trading type, and Hanja didn't want to risk getting his ears clawed off for asking to "try them on." But there was one he did think might work. What girl could say no to getting their lovely trinkets all polished up for free?
"Well howdy there, ma'am." Hanja said with a broad smile. "Ya wouldn't mind sharin a bit at that shade there with little ol' me, now would ya?" The dog asked, putting on the friendliest face he could.

The normally friendly lioness was surprisingly not in a mood to be friendly. Unfortunately the wild dog did not take the first hint that he should take himself somewhere else. Zenobia laid back her ears when he approached and spoke. If it had been any other time she might have agreed readily.

"As is so happens dog, I do not feel like sharing. Take yourself off." Her red eyes watched him as he tried his friendliest face and was unmoved. While she didn't want his company, Zeno for the moment at least wasn't about to chase him off as some lions might have. She had no kill that he might be trying to steal. In fact most of the prey in the immediant area had taken itself off after she'd laid down here.

Hanja cursed inwardly. Why did felines have to be such a nuisance? The dog quickly began re-working his plan, gears turning in his head. He had to make this work somehow. If the girl wouldn't let him share the shade, maybe he could offer a trade-off instead.
The dog smiled again, pretending to be unfazed at the lioness' snapping. "Aw, come on ma'am, it's a mighty hot day and ya lucky self seems to have found the only bit o' shade round these parts fer quite a while." Hanja sat down, showing no intentions of leaving, smile still plastered onto his face. "I'll tell ya what, I used to crafter in me ol' pack." He lied, feigning a quick wistful look on his face. "Made the most beautiful pieces ya can imagine. How 'bout this. I'll give them dull bracelet and rings of yers a polish, and in return ya can share just a bit o yer shade?" He winked and began wagging his tail, trying to make himself look as idiotic and nonthreatening as possible. People often trusted idiots. They never expected them to turn out criminal masterminds.

Unable to brood in peace any longer, Zeno turned her full scowl on the wild dog. Drat those who couldn't take a damn hint and leave! She did have to grudgingly admit he was somewhat right about the shade. There was some out there, but it would barely cover all of him. Old pack? She wondered why he'd left. He didn't look like one use to hard work, and Zeno had to stifle a snort of disbelief at his claim. Well whatever.

His offer however did make her secretely consider it. She didn't think they really looked that dull. On the other paw, she could see Athena's eyes lighting up when she strolled back to the group with her items gleaming in the last of the sunlight. That roll in the river mud surely couldn't of been good for the items. She really should have taken them off first before she went in, but at the time she didn't think about it.

"Alright dog. You have a deal. Make sure you clean them good and get all the mud off of them." Her voice was a stern command. Zenobia rose to her feet and slowly, carefully, removing her jewlery. Earrings first, then her tail ring, followed by her leg rings. She set them in a pile and flopped back down in the shade. This time leaving a bit of room for the wild dog.

Hanja let out an inner cry of triumph. This was turning out to be a good day after all! He watched greedily as the lioness took her jewelry off. This was going to be one heck of a haul. He gave the lioness a nod as she settled back down, trotting over to his designated spot on the shade. "Much obliged, ma'am." The dog looped a bracelet around his toes and held it up. Pure silver. Dull and a little muddy, but it was definitely the real thing.
The next step in the plan would be a little harder to pull off. Hanja began 'sorting' the jewelry together as he planned his next move. Making sure most of the smaller pieces were connected somehow, Hanja began working on one of the larger pieces, licking the dried mud off. He had to get the lioness to either let her guard down to wait till she spaced out, then he could grab the goods and take off.
In his experience, Hanja knew that ladies went off into their own world when they talked. And ladies loved to talk about their jewelry. The dog paused in 'polishing' and looked up at the lioness. "So what's the story behind these pretty trinkets? A gift from a special someone?"

Zenobia couldn't remember the last time she'd taken them off. It felt a bit strange without it on. She gave a back leg a shake, almost surprised not to hear any noise or feel the weight. This dog wouldn't be able to finish soon enough for her. She snorted as he inspected a bracelet.

While she wasn't much in the mood for talking, she gave the shortest answer she could. "No they weren't a gift from an old lover or anything like that. I've had them so long I don't remember where I got them." Oh they were definately not from a lover. She had absolutely refused to settle down with just one mate and lose her freedoms. Zeno watched him awhile at his work.

She didn't get involved with talking; either about her jewelery or her past life. Nor did she go off into a trace. What she did was brood. About her current litter. What was it that was bugging her so much? They were her cubs and she loved them very much. She should want them to have happy, full lives. That of course didn't make letting go any easier.

Hanja kept a careful watch on the lioness, waiting for the right moment to run. It would probably be too much to get her to try talking about. She seemed to have out for the world. Working with the friendly types was much easier. But Hanja would have to make do with his situation. He always did.
The dog felt a rush of adrenaline spike through him. The lioness had stopped talking, and now seemed to be spacing out a little bit. She had a stern expression on her face; something was obviously on her mind. It didn't seem like she was so far gone as to not notice it if Hanja bolted, but he would probably get a pretty good head start. Not to mention the fact that he was positive this was probably the most inattentive she would get. It would be a close chase, but the dog was sure he would be able to get it. Slowly, so as not to try and draw the lioness' attention back to him, he gathered the jewels in his mouth. Making sure he had them all, Hanja tensed his legs, ready to dash. He sucked a deep breath in through his mouth, then sprung to his feet, whipped around, and bolted from the shade of the tree.

If you want to do a final post with this, I can get the next rp started.

She saw without seeing as he gathered up her jewelry. So wound up with her own problems it took awhile to comprehend he was running. Her befuddled mind tried to make sense of it. There was nothing dangerous around her but them wasn't there? Zenobia blinked the confusion from her eyes and looked around. The dog was dissappearing into the distance. She looked around her and it was only then that she noticed the jewelry she'd given him to clean was gone.

The lioness gave a loud roar of anger. He had stolen her jewelry! Eyes flashing an angry red the lioness leaped to her feet. There was no way she was going to let him get away with this. Another roar, even louder than the last, echoed about with her promise to track him down.

Cool beans. Just quote/PM me with the link. Don't forget to add Tim into the title, since he's helping track Hanja down. 83

The sound of roaring gave Hanja his second wind, feet picking up the pace as he flew over the ground. She had definitely found out. Hanja made for the tall grasses of the savannah, weaving through the blades with expert precision. This was his strong suit. And with the head-start he had gotten, Hanja was sure the lioness wouldn't be able to catch him. The elation at the thought that he had pulled the operation off succesfully made him howl with glee as he ran.
The dog came out the other side of the grass and turned out, looking for any sign that the lioness was chasing after him, but the only movement in the grass was the soft swaying caused by the hot, dry breeze. It had been a good day indeed. Hanja readjusted his grip on the jewelry and ran off in the direction of one of his many hiding places.
