Bushiri had strayed away from priderock and his family, perhaps further than he should have, but the impressive formation still jutted well within view. So long as he could see it, Bushiri thought, he would be safe. He couldn’t very well get lost when his den was so readily in sight. And so the little cub had struck out to the grasslands, his head held high and feed bouncing along with each step. He kept a wide smile on his face, his eyes bright with mirth, and ears flicking to and fro as he trotted along.

There was nothing Bushiri enjoyed more than the opportunity to go adventuring. To meet new friends! Explore new places! Why, just the other day he’d met a jackal for the very first time, an exciting thing indeed, as he’d never before met any sort of canine. Just lions. Lions and lions and lions. And the birds that made their home here as companions and advisors to the lions.

Everything in the pridelands centered around lions. Which, if Bushiri were pressed to comment, wasn’t really a bad thing. He liked lions well enough, but one did want to see all the wonders of the world.

So here he was, jaunting through grass nearly as tall as himself, looking for something different and new to play with.

Datoka was hanging upside down on a fallen branch. Part of the branch was up in the air, thanks to the angle it was on, on a rock. In her chameleon form she was able to hang upside down on the branch. She felt that the world was much more interesting upside down than right side up. Being a chameleon had been entertaining so far. She had turned into different colors depending on where she was. Right now she was brown, matching the branch she was hanging on.

As she just hung there, she noticed a lion cub wandering about. She grinned. Her interest in cubs had risen greatly recently. The fact that she had never been a mother made her curious about what it was like to have her own cubs and if she would even be a decent mother. Before she had her own she wanted to be sure that she even liked cubs. It would be no good if she had them then found out that they irritated her! Though she was pretty sure she would always adore any cub she met.

"Pst! Little lion cub can you hear me?" She yelled at him with her quite voice. Being a chameleon caused her to be a bit quieter then her normal voice, something that was a major flaw. Her normal voice was much more louder and a bit demanding, this one though was not as strong. It would take some time to get used to. She just hoped that the lion cub would hear her.

Bushiri was busying himself pouncing on blades of grass as the wind tickled them and made them dance. He would crouch low, the tip of his tail wiggling with excitement, then leap with all four paws outstretched, his claws bare. He’d grapple with the blade, gnawing it between his teeth, and when he’d severed the top from its stem, he’d spit it out and start again. A fun enough game to play on one’s own, but Bushiri would rather have company.

And just as he’d made the thought, someone spoke. Bushiri whipped around, his lemon eyes searching the savannah for someone, anyone, who might have spoken. It was a quiet voice, for sure, but there was only the wee breeze to add noise. Easy enough to pick out.

“I can,” said Bushiri, seeing no one about. He plopped his bottom in the grass, brow furrowed with confusion,” But I can’t see you. Where are you? You’re not… you’re not a ghost are you?” So far his seer visions had only showed him the living, and only under specific circumstances. Hopefully nothing else was developing!

"Careful where you sit!" She yelled out, hoping he wouldn't sit on her. Luckily she was safe. It would be a terrible start of a friendship if he sat on her. He didn't know what she would do. Though for now she wouldn't worry about it. At a later time she would think about a plan for when she was a small critter so she could move out of the way of larger ones.

"Oh dear, I hope I am not a ghost. That would be rather depressing." She said with a frown. Then again, she could just float through rocks and trees which would be fun. However she wasn't sure she would like that for very long. That and she wasn't sure if gods could even turn into ghost. That was something she would have to ask a fellow god at some point. "I am a little chameleon right now. I'm on the branch. If you look closely you ought to be able to see me."

She stuck her light pink tongue out in hopes of helping him see her. "Does tat help any?" She said, with her tongue sill sticking out. Carefully she climbed higher on the branch so they could see each other better. Dortoka pulled her tongue back in. "My name is Dortoka. It is nice to meet you!" Her scaly tale went this way and that as she looked at him.

“A little what?” Bushiri asked, cocking his head. His ears were pricked as high as possible, listening carefully to the twee voice. He’d never heard of a chameleon before, and he’d certainly never seen such a creature before. He did see the branch, though, and turned his attention to it, padding a few steps nearer. He saw the flash of pink tongue, unnaturally long, and squinted harder. What did it belong to? Where did it come from?

He crept nearer still, his gaze focused and intense. When the chameleon made her way to the top of the branch, Buhiri finally saw her.

But it was too late for him to answer. He made eye contact with the lizard, those strange, shifting eyes…

A shelled creature was plodding along the desert, making very slow progress. It was brown like the dust, its bony carapace darker and marked with white stars. The ground suddenly began to rumble, shaking and shaking. The animal stopped and its limbs crawled inside its shell. The ground shook harder, splitting in the distance.

It rumbled. Rumbled. Rumbled. Every stone on the ground vibrated, dancing off the ground.

The animal rolled, landing on its back, and still the ground shook.

Finally,
finally the quake ceased. The animal peered out of its shell and waved its legs, but it was stuck.

A buzzard called overhead, its shadow falling across the animal.

Bushiri blinked hard and shook his head. A vision. He didn’t get them often, but it was clear to him what they were when he did. He scrunched up his face, trying to clear his mind’s eye. He didn’t know what sort of animal he’d seen, but he knew it was in trouble. It was like a beetle, unable to roll off of its shell, and he knew what buzzards and vultures liked to do with helpless animals.

“D-Dortoka…” his eyes were still swimming,” I…. I’m sorry I saw something. There’s a… a creature. With a shell. And it’s in danger. I have to find it…” he glanced over his shoulder. He didn’t feel any tremors in the earth, not here. The animal must be very far away, or his vision had not yet happened,” It’s somewhere… desert-y. Do you know of any place, Miss Dortoka the chameleon? Oh! Oh! And I’m Bushiri.”

There were few things that faltered Dortoka's fun loving 'shell'. Since she was born, she hadn't had many moment of seriousness. However she saw how the cub reacted. Her only guess was that he had a vision. She had heard stories of creatures gifted with unusual sight. Never had she expected it to belong to a cub. When she thought about seers, she thought of graying old maids, not youthful cubs.

As he spoke she listened carefully to his words. A shell? Raina, was her first thought. "A shell could mean different thing, a snail, or turtle." or a tortoise, she thought worriedly. "Could you describe the shell better for me? It is very important that you do. My closest friend has a shell and," She paused, debating if she should go regardless of if it was her friend or not. If it was Raina she would go as quickly as possible. However she wasn't sure what she would do if it was just a regular creature.

She didn't like making life and death decisions. Usually she just let things happen, unless she felt she needed to get involved. "What kind of danger is the creature in?" she asked letting herself calm down. Once she heard it she knew she would feel sorry for the creature, but if it was Raina she wanted to know what kind of trouble her friend got herself into.

She glanced out into the savanna. The desert, she had passed by one on her way here, though that was before she changed into a chameleon. She was in her goddess form and flew to the location. However walking there would take sometime, even longer that she was a chameleon. She had heard that gods could teleport though...

Her eyes went to the cub and she smiled. It sounded like a fun adventure to her, why not bring a long a cub? She would be sure to bring him home safely once the creature was safe. "It is nice to meet you Bushiri." She said with a nod of her chameleon head. Her mouth now formed a smirk. She jumped forward and landed on his nose. "I have a bit of a secret I would like to share with you, but you got to promise not to tell anyone. This secret is important to me and I only am going to share it with you because I want to help you save that little creature you saw. "

Sorry it took so long. I won't be actively on for a while (about a week) so my tags are going to be a bit slow.
