Times Square is one of the most tourist filled attractions in New York City. Walls of digital ads are stacked on the sides of buildings. Taxis race to pick up customers, vendors line the streets, and McDonald's makes bank from the crowds taking in the sights. Recently Times was remodeled by a demon...but most people don't know about that...

The crowds, constantly changing, continued to move at their New York pace. A figure stood out, towering above most of the other people in the square. He stood still in one of the few tranquil spots, a small twitch in his face. So... many... lights. People. Movement. It was all too much; he'd never before encountered anything like this. The big city, he'd decided, was not to his taste. Easier to blend in, but certainly more distracting. The noise of the city assaulted his rather sensitive ears.
Watching the latest batch of tourists attempting to catch taxis, he frowned. He knew he shouldn't be here. He didn't understand enough to function. Although, the fact that the place was absolutely crawling with people was convenient.
Spotting a police car in the flow of traffic, Garrett attempted to follow the crowd away from the streets, but this was something like a salmon trying to swim upstream. He wasn't making much progress, only managing to trip someone, who in turn held up the rest of the crowd. Hm... I'll have to rethink this... Finding an opening, he darted through, only about a yard farther than the was when he started.

Times Square was busier than normal, as if for some reason all of the tourists had decided to come out and take pictures of the freaking side walk today. She sighed, scanning the area as the waves of people flowed through the streets. Passing through them was easy enough, as long as one knew how to shove and held a few swear words on the tip of their tongue.

It would seem now would be a good time to use one. Just as she stepped out to cross the for once traffic-frozen street, J.J. found herself rammed into by some guy twice her height who apparently hadn't a clue what or where he was going. She hopped back, catching herself, and glared upward. "What the hell was that for?" Her tone was not amused, eyes flashing. "Pay attention idiot!" Most passerbys didn't even stop to see if a fight would follow. It was New York. Shouting was normal.

"I'm just trying to walk, shrew!" He snarled, not in the mood for a shouting match. The police car was still there, caught in the sluggish traffic. Altogether, irritable was an understatement.
"Move, dammit!" Garrett once again began to wade through the crowd.

He did not just call her a shrew.

Jessica really was not one for being insulted. Even if she had dealt the insult first. Therefore it was only natural for her to retort rather rudely, "Nice vocab coming from a half pint wookie." It was a great exit line, considering she was shoving past him to reach a taxi.

Kim would have murdered her for using Star Wars for evil.

Garrett had no idea what that was supposed to mean, but the tone was enough to tell him what the intention was.
It's a good thing chivalry's dead. As she began to push past him, he pushed back. At the moment, manners were not an option.

The fact that the total stranger was now pushing back against her was more than mildly annoying. Her temper was short as is, what with having that short, hellish, demon of a child sitting back at the CPRD making her life miserable.

And now even walking the street was a pain in the a**? The hell? "Would you please move your cave man like frame away from here?!?" She demanded, and in the process, accidentally shoving a bit too hard with her more than human strength, the result of which would likely have him tossed backwards.

Oops..

He flew backwards, knocking over several other people. Strong little b***h... He glowered at her.Where I come from, such games do not end well. He had forgotten about his urgent need to escape. Priorities melted away as something snapped. Already delicate mental equilibrium was falling off kilter.
Pulling a short-sword from his side (concealed until that moment) he made for a warning strike. A quick movement, if he had timed it correctly, it would be a neat nick to the cheek.

Jessica had been about to reach over to help the guy up, she wasn't that big of a jerk. That is, she was going to until he pulled a sword. Her eyes widened for a moment. Since when did anyone carry a sword around in NYC? Dumb question. Miro did.

She could almost feel the cold nick of the metal as it bit into her cheek. But already her body was adapting. Her eyes flashed. Now was not the time to get caught up in this sort of situation. Again, it was NYC, no one would bat an eyelash.

Jessica crossed her arms as a streak of red slipped down her cheek. "I suggest you put that toy away." Her voice was quiet, Russian accent slipping through. It conveyed: 'Put it away, or I will take it away.'

Something had changed drastically. If he were in his right mind, he would most likely have backed off, but at this point it would take a lot more than a substantial threat to make him calm down.
"You will have to do so, I'm afraid." A strange, shaky sort of grin followed as the sight of blood excited his already overstimulated senses. Tendons stood out on the back of his hand, knuckles white. The grip of death could not be more secure. Memories of his duelling days came back, feeding his violent streak.
Garrett watched vigilantly for either the first movement or signs of fleeing. Whichever came first.

The hint of a smile flickered across her lips. It was not a sweet gesture. "I can do that." Jessica promised. Without so much as a glint her skin had altered into a much tougher stock, her bones dense enough now that they would survive being hacked at with a sword (at least for awhile). Jessica felt heavier, though it wasn't going to inhibit movement. It was just a sign of the change.

Taking a moment to collect herself, J.J. suddenly lunged at the man, avoiding his sword and sending a jab at his arm. Well, it wasn't likely he'd expect her to come at him without a weapon. That was of course, the kicker. She was the weapon.

"Aha, feisty." A sort of half laugh escaped as she dove towards him. The sharp hit to his arm didn't feel like flesh hitting flesh; it was strange. But he did his best to shrug it off, swinging at her side with his other arm.

A loud 'thwack' sounded as the sword collided with her side. Bruising started to spread almost automatically. There was something wrong. Jessica was not supposed to feel that. Her skin and bones were much too thick for that...She should definitely not feel winded...

Her eyes narrowed as she replied to his attack with a swift kick to his side. For a moment she expected another loud thunk as her boot headed for his midsection. Instead it sank through the body, suddenly intangible.

Something was very, very wrong.

Too fast... Garrett braced himself for the kick, too quick to be properly blocked. That had always been a problem. What is this? Confused at the lack of impact, he hesitated a moment. It ended just as quickly. "What are you?" He asked, a tinge of ire leading the tone, as he tried for a strike to the shoulder.

She didn't deem his question with a reply. J.J. was more worried about praying that her mutation would work. *Бог...Бог....Oh God please just start working!* Her thoughts raced as she turned and braced for impact. The swing hit her shoulder, and a loud clang sounded. Jessica dropped to the ground, her leg, thankfully, falling from the stranger's body.

Jessica rolled, hoping to avoid another attack, and jumped to her feet. For a moment her eyes flickered to her shoulder. It was a cold, metallic gray. *Chyort voz'mi!* Her shoulder looked like steel, the rest of her body remained tanned flesh.

Grimacing, she focused on her arm. Slowly the gray-silver started to spread down her arms. In a few moments she might have a suitable weapon. If her head could stop ringing anyways...
