If Anyword at that moment could describe the young 'harpy'-style mutant hippogryph, it would be 'bored' with a strong keynote of "restless".
Vaniania was just recently deemed an adult, though it was predicted it'd be a few more months before the Great Mother spirit Blessed her with the greatest power of carrying and creating life within herself, though she now found herself more distracted by the stallions in the artisan guild and the area the males had dubbed the "Safe Zone" around the Nest of the mare she had been named in honor of due to her surprising cameo-coloring compared to her cooler colored siblings. And while she was an adult now, she still required schooling and assignments to gain full understanding of the flock now that she was old enough to do so.
These assignments lead her to the restless state she was in now, pacing in the broad path on one side of the drop that lead to white water , kicking pebbles loose and picking at the scraggly bushes that survived in the rocky soil. Kamunyak had assigned her to the position, thinking perhaps since it was an hours walk reach to the long path and short tunnel to the collapsed Karst that made the Artisan Guild would make it a place she'd be interested in protecting, and that the browns of her hair and feathers and the sandy yellows of her feet would make at least some moderate camouflage against the slightly clay caked walls of the otherwise rocky short cliff that had been scratched full of symbols and painted by her Elder Half Sister in places. making it so not even her white seemed too out of place. If she sat still, she could watch possibly in secret without the herd on the other side noticing her should they send a scout to the area to investigate whether it'd be a good time to mount a raid on them.
However there wasn't anyone in the place, and the mare couldn't stand to stay still for so long, muttering about how bored she was under her breath as she kicked more pebbles, trying to reach the other side of the slightly narrowed river. It wasn't possible to pass there unless one built a bridge or flew, and from what she understood, most herds lacked the digits to build, and any flier that tried to land on their side could be quickly dispatched. And from what she could tell, the other herd seemed pretty set on avoiding and Ignoring them.
If this so called herd even existed -- at this point she was almost certain that they had been made up by the Xenophobic paranoia many of the Harpies of the Flock Held about those who were not flock.
However when she noticed a bit of movement on the other side, she quickly hunkered down to not get spotted, hiding withing the scrub and rocks with her feathers plastered against her head -- she knew it didnt matter if they saw her, but she still wanted to see what she was dealing with before letting them know of her presence.

Sen'jin took the normal route through the trees, careful not to step on the new warren that seemed to have cropped up over night. The journey across the more open areas of the territories had been quite uneventful which was a pleasant change for once. As he had started on his way back, Sen'jin had run into his daughter and asked her to join him for the rest of the circuit. It would soon be her duties to protect the boundaries as much as it was her parents, Ysiel taking the higher mountain paths as she had the wings to navigate, and Sen'jin taking the wider, and yet longer path, to the south.
This might be the best place for her to start her training, Sen mused as he started to climb up the steeper sections. Around here was the waterfall that they often used to commune with the spirits. A small shrine had been decorated by both herds, Imogen and Dayunsi providing the flora that came from all corners of the glades and Malis providing the small bone trinkets she had bartered for from other herds. Not that Malis ever came to this specific spot. It was too close to the river, too close to the water that she hated so much. She wouldn't admit it anymore, but the Vitterfolk knew that it was dire circumstances that would bring her to this spot, and then, only if she could not reach the caverns that she preferred. Still, it was a good spot and many of the other Vitterfolk used it to teach the youngsters about how to revere the spirits. The fact that it was a little hard to get to was an added bonus as it usually showed the little ones that asking the spirits for aid was not something you should do for small instances, but only when you really had no other option. The spirits much preferred to aid someone who had put in their very best.
As he neared the top of the pathway, just before the awe-inspiring view of the falls came into sight, he paused and glanced around. Sometimes he could see the feathered ones from the other side. There were stories told about them from Malis' village. They were often agressive but these seemed to stay on their own side of the river and as long as it stayed that way, Sen'jin did not mind too much. He had to admit to himself, he was rather curious about the hidden neighbors but Malis had given strict orders not to cross the river to the other side. The only one he had met was when he had been much younger and first starting out as a guardian. He did not get to chat much so most of the feathered ones were still cloaked in mystery. Upon seeing no one there at first he decided to venture forward, his large bulk taking up much of the path.

The creature that came into her sight across the sharp steep drop and the raging waters that separated the two herds here where the river was narrowest was, to the young-adult, rather ridiculous looking with his odd mass of clumped hair tangled and twisted into dredlocks, and large, unwieldy tusks. On a female she'd recognize them better as the formidable weapons and foraging tools they were, but in a male they simply looked...
...Silly. The over all appearance made the larger horse across the way look gawky and comical to Vaniania. Giggling she popped her head up and gave a sharp, meaningless whistle, trying to get the attention of the male but trying to keep the noise quiet enough to not draw the other mares running in, "Hey! Hey!"
She got up to her feet, shaking the dust from her fur, pleased to have something to cut through her boredom. She was clearly, by appearance and vocal mannerisms, still somewhat young, her expression bright, cheerful and playful rather than the usual hawk-like solemn glares of the other guards. Giggling a bit after she was sure she had his attention, she gave a teasing grin, "Looks like those teeth of yours haven't kept you from enjoying too many honeycakes, Snaggletooth -- You're filling the whole path up over there!" She danced in place, grinning and waiting for his reaction. She was used to the playful teasing banter of the artisan guild, where males were clearly still submissive but more free to be themselves and tease back, having been brought there by her mother. Usually mares bantered among themselves in the flock, but as she entered the twilight between foal and adult, the males had proven especially entertaining to tease.

The large troll stallion was disrupted out of his thoughts by a sudden sharp whistle. At first he regarded the area warily before noticing the younger feathered mare on the other side of the river. It was easy to tell from her demeanor that she was not one of the usual adults who guarded the pass, Sen'jin even guessed she was about Kepi's age due to her giggling. With a raised eyebrow he finally deciphered what she was chortling about and let out a guffaw of laughter. The mare before him looked much like he remembered, long brown feathers in place of dreads and decorations that would rival the most revered of shaman. The overall look was pleasing to the eye but he preferred his mate over all others. Not even including the fact she was young enough to be his daughter! Pleasing to look at or not however, her merry attitude was one which begged for a rebuttal.
"Ya be thinkin' ah be on t' chubby side? This be pure muscle ya know, no honeycakes here!" He waggled his eyebrows at her before retaliating. "Though ya might be wantin' t' have some honeycakes of ya own t'ere Missy. Ya temperament may need a bit sweetenin'!" Sen'jin grinned widly to show he meant to insult but also wondered if she would storm off in a huff like a few he had met at in the valley. While he wasn't always the sharpest wit, he did have his moments though it usually ended with someone's feelings getting hurt. Ewa'kepi had been following Sen'jin for the past few hours. She had been interested in learning the rounds, wanting to do her part in helping out the Vitterfolk and her family as a whole. As they traveled up the steep slope she had wanted to rely on her wings and fly the rest of the way but her promise to her father kept her grounded out of respect for him and for the way of the Guardian. She was honored that Malis had deemed her worthy, especially after she had returned from her spirit quest with child. Mating for life was something that was repeated quite often while growing up, as well as carefully choosing a strong mate, but how would one go about mating a spirit? Kepi hoped to find this out with her journey to this remote waterfall upon the edges of the Vitterfolk territory. She loved her son very much and yet was weary since he had a lack of sight, setting him apart from the rest of the herds.
Sen'jin had dissappeared around the corner when she heard the voices. Kepi was curious, Who would come up here other than the Guardians of the Vitterfolk? She could hear her father laughing so it couldn't be an intruder... The younger mare trotted a little quicker to see who it was.

"Oh I get plenty of honeycakes, Wormcap." Vaniania laughed merrily, shaking her mane out and making the tiny bells chime brightly in her short hair, which was partially hidden by her crown of feathers that drooped into large, long feathers.
"But seriously, how do you eat with those?" Looking around, she reached into the bundle of leathers that had been carrying some food for her shift, and carefully adusting things, she tossed one of the up and over the river with a scooping, sideways motion of her legs, as if she was cat batting at a mouse. The unrisen loaf, sweetened with honey splatted over on his side, the mare's crest perking as she saw she managed to get it across, hoping to see him struggle to get it to a position that would let him eat it as she licked her claws clean, "I wanna see if you can pick that up with your teeth going past your nose."

Sen'jin raised an eyebrow, "Ya be thinkin' ah be obligin' fer ya own amusement?" He snorted with a chuckle before looking around, a slight gleam in his eye. "How about ah be showin' ya what these tusks can do." Without waiting for her answer he strode over to a near by tree where some ripe fruit waited. The tart apples would be a nice contrast with the honeycakes, if she had more of them in that leather pouch of hers. With a deft flick of his head, he caught one of the branches with his tusk and gave it a sharp yank. The branch peeled off the base it was attached to with ease and he now had access to more than just the one apple. Using his tusks once more he tossed the branch, with the three apples still attached, over to the other side of the waterfall. While Sen'jin would not know how to use the claws she exhibited, he had grown up with his tusks all his life and always found them useful. The troll stallion looked towards the honeycake and was pleased to see it had landed on one of the many rocks on the path. Most of the dirt and mud was eroded away from the spray of the waterfall, which made for slippery footing on occasion, but also meant the area was relatively clean. Bending down to his knees, Sen nudged the cake to a good position on the rock and then nibbled at the cake, each tusk on either side of the stone surface. Licking his lips as he rose back up gracefully the large stallion winked at Vaniania. "Hows that fer a show?" Kepi gaped as she saw the little scene unfold before her. Her father was not only bantering with another mare who seemed to have more feathers upon her than her grandfather but was also sharing a meal! She frowned for a moment trying to understand what was going on and decided to stay out of sight for a little longer before announcing herself. She almost giggled when Sen'jin reached down to take something small in his mouth from the ground. He had tried to teach her how to dig for water and roots when she was younger. As she never developed tusks like her sister, however, the mare never was able to master that little trick. She was able to use her antlers in place of tusks on occasion when gathering branches and fruit from the trees, however, and often did so due to her sweet-tooth.

Vaniania made a soft noise as the branch headed their way, and moved to grab the branch, catching it in her claws before it could fall off the cliff, the leafy branches having landed hanging off her cliff side and attempted to bounce off the corner. She pulled it up and took up an apple, noting to save the branch to use as a cutting and to save the seeds.
However she nearly dropped it once more while watching him eat the honey cake, "pfffft!" Vaniania made a choking laugh at the sight of him going at it at such an angle, "you looked like one of the boars we keep rooting at the ground like that!"
She paused, feeling a small tickling of pride -- from what they were taught, most herds outside of the flock were primitive, rarely ever preparing food beyond their basic components. Because of it, curiousity was getting the better of her as to their thoughts on it., "How'd you like it? I have enough to share with the antlered girl over there, too if she'd like." She lifted a clawed hand in greetings to Kepi, spotting her from where she was, before taking out her pack, finding one of her flint knives and cutting the apple up into slices and scooping the seeds out, setting them aside into a small bundle of fabric to try and plant later before taking a bite, adding a slice on top of one of her honey cakes.
