Bushiri knew he shouldn’t be wandering on his own, especially not so near the border of the pridelands. Crossing into the unknown would leave him totally unprotected, and his family was much too far away now to help him. It wasn’t that Bushiri was reckless, or that he wanted to put himself in danger; No, his only intention was to explore, to see what the world had to offer him. Mostly, of course, he was out here looking for new friends. There were plenty of lions in the pride that he could bother, but that was the problem. Nearly everyone here was a lion, and the vast majority of them were busy with things, too. Few adults apart from the nannies had any time for a boisterous young cub with a thousand unanswered questions waiting on the tip of his tongue.

So along he went, sniffing at the ground and flicking his ears at the sounds of the savannah.

“Hello!” he yowled as he walked. Too long without anyone to speak to! “Oh! This was silly. There’s nobody out here but me and locusts, and the locusts don’t talk.”

As if to emphasis his point, a wee hopper stroked his legs and let out a chirp.

Bushiri paused and cast it a smile,” Thank-you.”

Oh look, she went and did it again. She had travelled out of viewing range. Wandering away from her lion friends like this was eventually going to become a big problem for her, she just knew it... It was just, she was curious. For weeks now, through the desert, the forest, and now, the plain where her home used to be, heading to place called the "pridelands". She was starting to wonder if it even existed and Inia had just heard an old folk tale or something. I mean, it was so far away.

So Sahar decided to scout ahead. Check out if she could see this famous "pride rock" that her lion friends spoke of. Or at least, that's what she told them half and hour ago. In all honesty she was bored of just walking and making small talk. She wanted to play! As childish as it sounded, she used to play with cubs all the time! They were fun to play with, they came up with silly ideas and didn't mind Sahar suggesting silly idea's back!

Oh, she wished they were at the pridelands already. Then she could play with cubs all day long...

Bushiri’s locust gave a frightened chirp and took off into the grass.

“Hey!” the cub exclaimed,” Where are you going?” He bounded quickly after the little bug, his lemon eyes squinted to slits. Locusts were very well camouflaged in the grass, and he could only see it when it moved, leaping from grass stalk to grass stalk. Not more than a dozen leaps later, Bushiri lost track of it. Gone.

“Well, that wasn’t nice,” he rocked back on his haunches, frowning,” I only wanted someone to talk to.”

Something stirred in the grass behind him. Bushir’s ear flicked in the direction, then his head followed.

A… a canine! Of some sort. Something small and black. Bushiri had never seen such an animal in his life.

His grin was back in place. He whipped around to face the approacher,” Hello! What are you?” Perhaps not the most polite of greetings, but one could forgive a young cub, couldn’t they?

Was that? Yes, it was! A cub! A real cub! A possible playmate! She was filled with joy, and couldn't help but smile. "I'm a Jackal." She said. So many cubs had asked her that question, yet Sahar never seemed to get bored of answering it.

She spead up her walking- skipping if one could say that, until she was near the cub. Went she stopped walking her shell necklace made a little tapping noise. Probabley the pearl inside. She had become accustom to hearing the two objects brush up against each other. So much that she couldn't picture them not doing so. Oddly enough, she had gotten the necklace from a little pup, as a gift of friendship. To began to wonder how much that little pup had grown since she had last seen it...

Then she shook her head, focusing on the cub in front of her. "And your a... Lion cub, correct?" She often got cheetah and lion cubs mixed up, but this was improving... Or at least was improving. She hadn't seen a cub in months now, meaning she was probabley bad at this again.

“A jackal!” Bushiri exclaimed,” I’ve never met a jackal before.” He bounded forward, all four paws in the air as he approached. This was exactly what he’d come out here for. To meet new friends! All thoughts of the locust vanished into thin air. A friend he could talk to was much better than one who merely tried to run away.

That put a halt to his excitement. Bushiri skidded to a stop, brow furrowed,” Lions don’t eat jackals, do we?” Not that Bushiri had any intention of doing so, but his seer abilities were intimately linked to prey animals. He really didn’t care much to have a vision at present, so if this jackal was prey, he’d have to be careful where he looked.

“You’re very right though,” his grin was back,” I am a lion cub! And my name is Bushiri.”

"I'm Sahar." She introduced herself. "And as far as I know lion's don't eat Jackals." 'Only leopards...' She almost shuddered at the memory. Then again, that leopard was wandering around on the brink of death, so of course he'd try and eat Sahar. She was tiny (even for a jackal,) barely even a morsel, and yet still, possible food.

"Say, Bushiri, do you know a place called the pridelands?" It was best to get that question off her mind. If he did know, she might be able to tell how far they were from it. Then she'd temporarley forget all about the pridelands and just play with the cub in front of her.

She wondered what he would want to play. The possiblities were endless. Oh, she could barely stand it, she just wanted to have fun already! And after this question was answered, she finally could.

With that bit of unpleasantness out of the way, Bushiri was happy to look the jackal in the eye. She was a tiny little thing, wasn’t she? But Bushiri was young, and smaller still, even though his paws were obviously much too large for his little body.

“Well, that’s good,” he concluded with a forceful nod of his head,” I wouldn’t eat you, but it’s nice to know.” He didn’t really want to give away his reasons for the question just yet. The pridelands didn’t care much for seers – they were just any other lion, as far as they were concerned – but some people got their tails in a knot over it. Or they wanted Bushiri to tell them things he simply didn’t know.

The cub’s ears perked at the mention of the pridelands,” Of course I do! We’re in it! Well, sort of… we’re on the border…” he lowered his voice to a hush,” I’m really not supposed to be out here alone, but there wasn’t anyone to play with back home. Everyone’s busy.”

They were in the pridelands? That was an even better responce that Sahar hoped for! "While, I'll always play with you if your bored." She said with a grin on her face. "My friends and I are moving to the pridelands, so I'll be around if you need someone to play with." She stretched her front legs and bent her head lower to the ground. "So... Do you have anything inperticular you want to play?" She asked.

This was turning out to be a great day. Not only did she have a cub to play with, but she could play with him possibly more than once, and she had finally made it to the pridelands! What more could she ask for?

Well, perhapes a burrow or den, or somewhere to sleep other than outside in the grass. Don't get me wrong, she enjoyed dearly sleeping outside, with the protection of lions, and looking at the stars, it was just, one get's sick of the same thing after a while. Besides, she living in a burrow mean't finally having a "house" again. Something she had left when she went on her grand adventure around the world.

You’re going to join the pridelands?” Bushiri’s grin grew as wide as it could. He hopped up onto his paws and danced about in a circle, bouncing with each step,” There’s mostly only lions here, it’ll be nice to have a jackal. Especially one that likes to play.”

It was if he were the child of fortune instead of blood magic! He’d gotten everything he’d hoped for today – met a new friend, a new non-lion friend, and they even wanted to play with him. Bushiri couldn’t possibly have been any happier.

“We could play tag,” he suggested, calming himself to still – although his toes wiggled in the grass and he refused to sit ,” We’re close to the same size so it would be more fair. Do you want to be it first?” He was always so polite… give his new friend the choice of position. Bushiri was always willing to make compromises for his friends. Especially for play time.

"Sure." Sahar smirked, "but I warn you, I'm fast." And fast she should be. She had raced a cheetah cub before, slipping and sliding all over the dirt in order to catch up. It couldn't have been much harder with a lion cub, if anything it should have be easier for her. Lions were built for strength after all, not speed.

She wouldn't just run at him unexpectedly, that'd be unfair. Instead she'd give him three seconds to flee before she chased after him. That seemed more fair then just bolting at him at full speed. "Ready?"

Bushiri had only ever raced other lions – both cubs and adults – and only the adults had ever let. He wasn’t the most athletic of children, but he enjoyed his playtime, win or lose. He dropped into a play bow, wiggling his rump in the air, his claws gripping at the grass with anticipation.

“Ready!” he squeaked, then sprang up. He took off through the brush, racing as fast as his short little legs could carry him, the wind ruffling his fur. He called over his shoulder,” Come and get me!”

1...2...3... Go! Sahar ran after the cub. It seemed surprisingly easy for her. Perhapes it was all that running-for-her-life situations making her be able to run fast. Perhapes it was because she had to speed walk all the time to keep up with her travel compainions. Whatever the case, it didn't take long at all for Sahar to appear next to Bushiri.

"I'm gonna get you!" She sprung at the cub.

Bushiri had never been forced to rush around anywhere. He much preferred a slower pace, unless he was playing a game. You could miss things if you were too quick. That, coupled with his clumsy kitten paws, made him rather slow in relation to the jackal. He was quickly pounced, and let out a shriek of laughter as Sahar ‘tagged’ him.

“You’re so fast!” he giggled, but up he went, stretching his limbs and ready to take off again,” My turn now!”

"Uh oh, I better run!" Sahar said with a smug grin on her face. She had missed this part about cubs the most. Particularly little boys; the fact that they didn't give in easily to her favourite game of "tag" made it easy to enjoy herself even more.
The breeze brushed through her fur as she ran, and the shell she wore around her neck pinged together with a tiny pink pearl inside to create a harmonic sound. Even in the midst of her playing, the tune soothed Sahar, freeing her of any feelings of worry or trouble.

She was certain the sound could be heard all around the field she was in as she ran about endlessly. Her little legs turning this way and that passing her playmate without giving him the slightest chance of success.

But she didn't want to discourage him, then he might stop playing!

So instead, after she slid on the dirt again, she turned around to face the cub paddling along after her.

Discourage the ineffable optimism of Bushiri? Not likely! The little cub had a great many siblings and half-siblings which he enjoyed many afternoons of play with. He wasn’t fast or particularly goaded by winning – he merely enjoyed the company and the fun. Bushiri could never be a sore loser. But he wouldn’t voice his opinion as the jackal slowed. Perhaps she was tired and didn’t wish to play for very much longer? He felt like they’d only just started, but she was very small. Maybe she was hungry.

Bushiri slowed than pounced towards her, his mouth open in a toothy, gleeful grin, tail flying like a banner behind him.

If she let him tag her, he’d merely roll onto his back and paw gently at her underjaw,” Are you tired, Sahar? Or hungry? I know where to find some good bugs!”
