This old, multi-levelled house is the start of all the "fun and games." There are five floors on each level, and twenty rooms on each floor. To get out, the user must get to the fifth floor and out the "final exit." On their way to that exit, there will be many obstacles in their way, of course. Each obstacle depends on what room the participant lands in.

Each room is dependant on the roll of 1d20. The user must complete the obstacle in hthe room they land in before being allowed to go to another room. If the participant rolls the same number room as the one theyr just defeated, they may be allowed to re-roll. That is the only exception.

Scavenger hunt: Rooms (All except exits)

All participants are given a pamphlet that shows them all of the items needing collection. Items can be found in all rooms except the exits. In order for there to be a chance for others to win the scavenger hunt, there are multiples of each item. However, if a participant finds doubles, they may keep them. Two things may be done with the doubles. 1) Trade in the village for extra tickets, 2) Trade with other participants for more tickets or possible missing items (as there is no garuntee that one person will find all required items in their first trip to the Mad House)

To get the hunt card, you must make a post in the Mad House thread, and in RP an NPC will give you the hunt card before your character enters the house. From there, you can copy/paste the list below into your posts as you move through the house and strike out each one you find.

Hands-only rock climbing: Rooms 1, 20

The two exit rooms on each floor challenge the shinobi's strength and chakra control, the former by forcing them to pull their own body weight against gravity without the use of their legs, and the latter to keep their grip... otherwise they fall and have to start over.

The two exit rooms on the fifth floor are backwards. The shinobi have to climb down the rock wall with only their hands. Also, only room 1 on the fifth floor is the "final exit." Room 20 on this floor takes the shinobi back to floor one to start the Mad House over again.

Razor wire room: Rooms 2, 6, 10, 14, 18

From, front to back, side to side, corner to corner... everywhere is covered in razor wire! However, in this mess there are some gaps that are just big enough to slip through. There are two ways to get to the door on the other side. The first is to become a master of grace and flexibility, slipping throough the wire at your own risk, and the other is to master the art or balance, using your chakra to walk on the wires.

1) You must choose either acrobatics or chakra control, not both
2) -1 HP per failed roll

Light sparring: Rooms 3, 7, 11, 15, 19

While it may be just a little cliche, sometimes what's needed is a good opponent. However, in such a place as this, there's no way to really wait for another shinobi to land in the room before a spar occurs, so the "watchers" of the Mad House have prepared opponents for all of you. Just hope you don't get more than one at a time.

Three-legged race: Rooms (Hallways) 4, 8, 12, 16

In these long hallways the ultimate goal is to simply get to the other side. Too bad it really isn't that easy. Once again, yuo can't wait for another shinobi to show up to partner up and run the race. No... a leg, an arm, and half your body is bound to that of a heavy, life-sized scarecrow. To top it off, you have to lug it all the way to the end... and avoid every obstacle in your way, whether it's flying kunai, or hot coals. Top priority is getting your "partner" to the other side without a scratch. Any damage results in a loss of tickets.

DC: 10+athletics
Roll: 1d20+athletics
Successes: 10/10
Special: Every failed roll cuts, burns, etc. your "partner" It only has 10 HP. Once it hit's 0, you must start the race over. (Restarting give a chance to earn 5 tickets, but each failed roll reduces it by 1, like with the previous race, though the scarecrow still has 10 HP. More than one restart results in earning no tickets.)

Ticket: 10 -1 per failed roll to min of 0

Mirror maze: Rooms 5, 9, 13, 17

This room explains itself. It is a maze of mirrors from start to finish. However, there are some mirrors that are really an illusions. Discovering these nonexistant panes (rolling a 20) will result in a possible "short cut" through this miniature labrynth.

Trap doors: Rooms (All)

Long story short, every room has trap doors in it that trigger when someone trips a switch, wire, etc. This only happens when a crit fail is rolled during another obstacle. This is also included in the exit rooms. Roll a 1 in a rock wall room and you slip, fall, and go through a trap door to the floor below you(roll a d20 to determine). Roll a 1 in the wire room and you cut yourself and trip a trap wire, fall through the trap door, etc. You get the picture.

Traps doors are only on the 2nd floor and up. None on the first floor.

The only way to prevent yourself from falling through the door after tripping the trap is by making a DC: 15+shinobi level vs 1d20 +athletics.

Batsu, after his long travel from Kirigakure, slowly made his way up to the place. It was bad enough that he was is an unknown country where he knew absolutely NO ONE, but now he was sent to this god-awful place where there was no telling what was inside. At least when Batsu was fighting he could predict a rival's movement and habit by studying them. However, he was looking at a building. Unless the damn thing decided to sprout legs and fight him then there waas no way to predict anything... other than the fact that the building looked crappy on the outside. With that said, it surely meant that this place was just as if not even more 'craptacular' on the inside. But there was only one way to find out.

(Prod, the wheel of experience is in the main streets thread, not the mad house thread. You cannot spin a wheel at the mad house that does not exist at the mad house. )

(Prod... if you wanted me to post so badly last night you should have at least edited your post properly. Be glad I posted as if you had actually edited like I asked you to in the first place... I was very tempted to add your invisible wheel into the post... ^_^; )

Whole Koei waited in front of the Mad House, he flipped through the pages of a magazine. There was some interesting stuff in the newest catalog, and the advertisement pages were... well that swimwear looked just lovely. Hearing approaching footsteps, his head lifted just a bit above the top on his reading material. This was the first shinobi of another country he'd seen for the festival, and didn't the festival just start? Where were the others? Lost? Or maybe they were afraid of what was inside the house. Perhaps they wanted to let the older shinobi have "all of the fun." Either they were seriously lagging or whoever this was didn't even bother to do the little meet and greet and just wandered his way over here. "Uh, hey... if you want to go in, just enter through that door, and..." he pulled out a check off list and a baggy. "Take these..."

Batsu looked down at the bag and the list for a few moments before he actually picked them up. "Thank you, sir."

After picking up the supplies the boy looked at the door. He didn't want to seem nervous... really he didn't... but the hesitation of going inside still laid heavy on his heart. The fear of what was in the building wasn't the issue for him at all. It was the fear of NOT knowing what was there that made him worry. But he couldn't just stand there like a statue the whole time. Eventually he had to go in there.

Batsu went to put his hand on the doorknob but the door ended up opening on its own. Eh... not so scary. But as the boy looked in he saw a bunch of doors on the same floor. That within itself didn't seem so bad.

Then the boy looked up...

Batsu saw four additional floors of the same thing... doors. Batsu just stared into the distance and immediately dropped to his knees.

Batsu just spoke to himself out loud with a hint of desperation in his voice. "This is some type of joke, right?"

[Enter from Harvest Festival - Main House]

Running over to the looming building over where it said Mad House in bold letters, she slowed down, and eventually stopped fully once reaching the entrance. Catching her breath as she looked around, Sakura shivered. The place seemed a tad creepy with all the perfect props and setting and mood for a horror movie. Gripping her newfound kitten that she had named 'Yang' which would be her counterpart to 'Yin', her black kitten at home which happened to be around the same size, she turned around and searched for an entrance to the building.

It semed that once they got used to the looming dreary impression of the building, it actually turned out to be quite the handsome piece of architecture, with some hard work in the design and ornaments or props here and there. She was liking Ame already. Gently letting go of Amaya's hand that she had been unconsciously holding on to until now, she glanced at the big kitty on her back, tied with the sweater that Amaya had been wearing. Fatzo was now nicely situated on her back and Sakura stared at the sight with an amused eye.

Shaking her head and tearing her eyes away from the sight, she searched for a guide that could help them get started. It seemed there was someone at the entrance, so she motioned to Amaya over to the person standing there as she took a last glance at the huge kitten on the 4 foot tall girl.

Damn, Fatzo was cute though.

As the child was pulled through the people, though not entirely against her will, she used her “free” hand to hold onto the knot that she made with the sleeves of her jacket in order to hold the stuffed kitten onto her back. It was still cumbersome and awkward, but it was better than having to carry it in her arms. Silently she wished that they had saved handing out the plushies until the end of the festival, but she was also quite fond of the black cat that she had been awarded. It was just so soft and cuddly! Damn her eight year old self, this little festival was sure to bring it out of her even though she tried to suppress it.

Amaya was caught slightly off guard by Sakura’s sudden halt and bumped into her slightly, but not hard enough to knock either of them over but enough for the smaller of the girls to let out an “umph”. It was her fault since she hadn’t been paying attention to where they were going and just letting the pink haired Academy student drag her wherever whim beckoned. As the short little girl straightened up, she looked forward to see what had drawn such a quick stop from her companion.

So this was the “Mad House” that everyone had been urging them towards. Given the nature, location, and remarkable size of the structure, this was the main event for the Harvest Festival. That would make sense since one had to earn their currency for the event at this location, but how?

The girl leaned back, though difficultly so with the toy latched onto her waist, and stared up at the immense structure. There seemed to be five whole stories to this place, but the width and the depth of the place was awe-inspiring. How many people did it take to create this? How long did it take to put this together? Were the local villagers less enthralled by in than she was because they had watched it erected or had it somehow been kept under wraps as a surprise for all? Were they able to watch the construction and waiting in anticipation for the opening?

”Wow.”

Alright, if the young, black haired Keiji hadn’t been excited before she most certainly was now! What were the many mysteries that lay behind the doors? She wanted to rush in and find out, but there had to be some sort of order about this. Was there a point to this or was it a maze of sorts? Eeee! She just wanted to go in! Easy girl, easy. There had to be an attendant or someone of that sort to tell them what this was all about. Maybe there would even be a place for her to leave the plushie while they wandered about inside. It would be much easier than trying to tote the adorable beast around with her.

[Sorry there really isn't any interaction, I just figured instead of launching back into conversation I would just tag Rin too.]

Koei turned his eyes back to the road tnhat would lead more victims... ah, shinobi to him. The next "batch," if it could even be called that, was a couple of young girls. It's a good thing this place is designed to engage shinobi of all levels... otherwise this would be... not good for these kids. Especially since it was the little kids that were really into the festivities. That was to be expected, though. So, he raised his hand in greeting to the girls, more baggies and check lists prepared for them. "Welcome to the Mad House, young ones! Are you ready to test yourselves at multiple levels?" He spotted the plushies and waved a hand to a shelf with cubby holes in it. "You can stick your goodies in a cubby and stick a name tag to it. Be sure you wear a name tag, too, so that I can match you guys up with your stuff. It would make it much easier on me, anyway." Though, now that he thought of it, as cool as it would be, the giant kitty wouldn't fit into a cubby... "If you just put the tag on the toy itself, I'm sure it will be just fine sitting next o the cubby shelf. I'll be it's protector." He gave Amaya a graceful bow. They were so cute, and looked so ready for adventure... he mildly wondered if that feeling would escape them when they would get seperated after the first room. "Just so you know, nearly all of the rooms have a special item in them that you can search for. Once you find it, you can check it off your list. The goial is to get to the top floor and escape this place, then you can either go in again or spend whatever tickets you earn in the Main Street area. Just remember, when you run out of tickets you have to go through again to earn more."

Sakura heard the explanations, and took the name tags with a thank you, writing her name on the tag with a pen twice. Taking one tag and giving the other tag to her plushie, she placed her kitten in the cubbies, where she would come back for it later. Taking the baggie for the collectibles in one hand and placing her other hand on her waist, she stared at the blackened doors to the horror house, where a sudden ominous feel overcame her. As if... almost as if she was being sucked in, without a way out. Trying to brush off the feeling, she left an occupied Amaya behind and bravely pushed the doors open, fading into the dark corridor.

Walking through the deserted halls, she reached out with her fingertips, trying to see her way into the murky path before her. Once her eyes had become used to the darkness, she could see outlines of doors and corridors in the front, although it was still too dark to see anything clearly. Obviously, the people had done a superb job at the decor and mood... a little too much of a good job. Turning around, she saw cobwebs and dust everywhere, with the occasional creaking sounds of who knew what. Every noise and flash of movement made her jump as she moved through the house of horrors.

Her search eventually led her to the conclusion that there was no obvious exit in the vicinity, which meant the only way out was to go up... by going into the rooms. Gazing upon the antique looking doors, she chose a random one and, praying it would turn out to be alright, pushed it open bravely. The door revealed.. a rock-climbing wall. There was what looked like an exit over at the top, and she figured that she had chosen the right room. This sounded pretty straight forward enough, since it wouldn't be all that hard, right?

On their final approach, Amaya was very glad to see a man standing there supposedly in charge of the Mad House. Oh how exciting all this was! The man before them raised his hand in greeting and there seemed to be some other items in his other hand.


Welcome to the Mad House, young ones! Are you ready to test yourselves at multiple levels?

The man was obviously addressing Sakura and Amaya since they were the only Academy students there at that particular moment. The black haired girl’s perpetual smile remained, but in an attempt to control herself she wouldn’t allow it to grow any bigger. “Multiple levels”? What could he mean? Was he simply referring to the different stories of the looming building or were there going to be challenges of some sort? The young Keiji silently hoped that there would be something to test them inside. However, as to what it could possibly be the child couldn’t say.

You can stick your goodies in a cubby and stick a name tag to it. Be sure you wear a name tag too so that I can match you guys up with your stuff. It would make it much easier on me, anyway.

Following the waving hand, Amaya looked over to the cubby with a happy little smile. Thank goodness there was going to be somewhere for her to store the – wait. While those cubbies would work perfectly for anything else, the monstrosity of a plushie that clung to the girl’s back was far too large to be mashed into one of those little holes. Maybe she would have to tote it around after all.

If you put the tag on the toy itself, I’m sure it will be just fine sitting next to the cubby shelf. I’ll be its protector.

The graceful bow made the girl absolutely giddy. She had never really been bowed to by anyone other than her peers and out of play. The small girl responded with a curtsy of all things, using the cat’s feet as the hem of a skirt, as she gave a meek “thank you”. She would have been concerned about leaving the toy simply sitting there, but the idea of having a protector was thrilling and comforting. Now no one would be able to snatch away her secretly beloved prize.

After Sakura, Amaya took the pen and spelled out her first name as gracefully as she could manage. Mind you, that wasn’t too terribly beautiful since she was only eight, but it was clean and legible and that was the most important part. Then, she took the toy over to the cubbies and placed it to the side with some difficultly given that it was on her back. Then, not wanting to take her jacket into the Mad House, the girl slipped the arms of the cat through the sleeves in order to claim it as hers. The cat wasn’t actually wearing it, just guarding it. Finally, the girl placed her nametag on the forehead of the beast, that way no one could miss the claim, and she placed her tag on the left hip of her shirt. Amaya didn’t know why exactly, but she had never liked names being on her chest.

With all of that complete, she turned her attention back to the man before them.


Just so you know, nearly all of the rooms have a special item in them that you can search for. Once you find it, you can check it off your list. The goal is to get to the top floor and escape this place, then you can either go in again or spend whatever tickets you earn in the Main Street area. Just remember, when you run out of tickets you have to go through again to earn more.

Ah ha! Now everything finally made sense! This was such a wonderful game and Amaya would be sure to give extra applause to the masterminds of the festival. The Mad House was just so creative and well thought out, the child could hardly wait to enter. Apparently, neither could Sakura. The black haired girl watched her companion enter, disappearing into the black, and couldn’t help but giggle lightly at the Academy student’s heroic pose. She was just too much and it always meant a good time.

With her friend gone, Amaya decided that it must be her turn to go in; though there didn’t seem to be anyone fighting her for the honor. She accepted the bag and the list from the man with a grateful bow and walked up to the door. Her hands were on the door, but she wasn’t quite ready to open it. The child, though not letting go, turned her shoulders so that she could look at the man once more.

”Thank you and thank you for watching my kitten.”

She gave him a cute little bounce of a smile before opening the doors, not even the smallest flair of the dramatic associated with the action, and walked into the dark.

Not being entirely comfortable, Amaya just stood there once the doors closed so that her eyes could adjust and once they had, she saw two things that were concerning. First and foremost, there were doors upon doors. Secondly, there was a man in the entrance. He was on his knees, just staring at the doors like he couldn’t comprehend their existence. Not knowing if this was part of the Mad House or if this was some poor guy that got overwhelmed, the girl was wary of him. None the less she tried to be kind.

Amaya strode the few steps to the man’s side, leaned over so that she was closer to him, and placed a hand on his shoulder.

”Don’t be alarmed, there is a way out somewhere.”

That was all the girl could offer and she wasn’t sure if this was a person or a prop, so she moved on. Amaya walked past a few of the doors before finally settling on one. Tugging on the handle, she found that it gave without the slightest fight, which was rather eerie. Even creepier was the empty room that she had now closed herself into. Was this right? No, it couldn’t be. However, there was an exit on the other side, so this had to be something, right? How frustrating. (@Cleric: Hmmm... we'll say that the instructions are on the card, and that if the legs are used (all sneaky and such) then the tickets for that room will not be given *nods nods* Using a leg bind jutsu, I think, would imply the players having a chance to get out of it)

Surprise Attack!

A rapid clacking of wooden jaws sounds through the room, echoing off the walls. This sound did not stop as more joined in the cacophany; quick raps of wood on wood, the cringing squeal of metal parts moving after a long rest, and the sound of skidding combined with the twang of tense wire. The room was only dimly lit, forcing any shinobi to enter to pause in order for their own eyes to adjust. This pause was a forced weakness, they would learn that very, very soon. Was something moving along the wall, or were shadows playing tricks. It was almost clear from the corner of the eyes, but one the full gaze could be turned upon it, it would vanis. It was those last two sounds that alerted to a prsence from behind, except there was a dark figure forming right in front of the girl, as if it was getting bigger... or close. The clacking continued, became more rapid.

There was a 'tchink' of metal through air that signalled the official attack.

Thinking back on the bag of things that she had been given, she rummaged around her bag and searched for something that she had been given. Ah, there, the Hunt card. Flipping it to the back, she saw explanations of things that were unique for each room, and upon skimming, she found that she had lukily found the entrance to the second floor on her first try. Cha!

However, she frowned upon reading on even more. It seemed that she would have to use only her hand strength and chakra control in order to climb up these walls, no feet allowed. The tickets wouldn't be given to her if she used any of the tools or feet. Sighing, she set to work, not very happy with what was required of her, but in a grim smile. Her strength was mediocre at most, although her chakra control was much better. It was a daunting task set in front of her, but in order to get her tickets, she would have to get up there somehow.

Swiping some dust on the floor on to her fingertips, she rubbed them together, not appreciating the feel of the fine dust but realizing that without it, her hands would have multiple sores. The rest of her hands were protected by her gloves, so she wouldn't have to worry about that for now. Gritting her teeth, Sakura gripped the stones in reach firmly, feeling and testing her strength and firmness of the stones before hoisting herself up with her right hand and lifting her feet up from the ground. The stones tickled at her feet, tempting her to place them down on the firm surfaces, but she refused to do so, pressing onwards firmly in her quest to reach the top.

The small girl squinted in the dark of the room in an attempt to force her eyes to adjust. However, she wasn’t given time to adjust since there was suddenly a loud clacking sound coming from both in front of her and behind her. What in the world was that sound?! Not being acquainted with puppets, this was a rather scary situation. However, at the same time she was starting to act on instinct. A wooden dummy came at her from the front, dressed in a light pink dress, and wielding some kind of weapon in its arm. Ducking low to avoid the hit, the girl flinched as she felt a hit from behind. None the less, the girl twisted and brought her left arm forward to make contact with the assaulting dummy.

Apparently this was the challenge of the room. That man wasn’t kidding when they said that their skills were going to be tested…he wasn’t kidding.

When the girl twisted around to attack her stalker, her fist went right through the chest of the dummy Roll. It's head wobbling around from side to side, as pieces of it's fragile frame splintered and fell to the ground, showed nothing as it's jaw clacked a final round before collapsing in a heap on the ground.

As if to echo the dying clatter of it's "sister" the other dummy continues to rattle away, an attempt to scare the girl. It's blade raised over it's curly, blone head before swinging down in a fierce arc. Doing so, it's eyes almost glowed as the blade stuck home and all it did from there was snap it's jaw shut and shuffle in circles around the girl, as if it were teasing her... Was it possible for a puoppet to forget it's broken comerade in a heap on the floor, or did it consider that last attack to be the full punishment?
