It wasn't terribly hard to make Kettil feel guilt or at least some remorse for things he'd done in the past be it out of mischief or just bad decision making - all it took was for him to honestly admire the target of his bad behavior and then to have his actions affect then negatively.
Thus, when Professor Selene was a bit upset by his doodling on her slides (before being caught and suitably punished) he had felt guilt during class because of her reaction - she had given him a good first impression and he had taken to her easily from the start and so guilt occurred at that time. Now? She'd gotten hurt to protect him after his exam. He would have stayed to fight but ... he was too weak to really assist and would have just gotten in the way - right?
Kettil held onto the bloodied letter after he stored away the pin, his other hand rubbed the back of his neck feeling nothing but regret and guilt despite acknowledging that he just wasn't going to be of any help to her. He wondered if he should stayed back when it had happened and he still wondered that now, it was one of those sticking points that just wouldn't leave him alone but he supposed he would have to roll with the punches and hope she made a quick recovery but that didn't feel like it was enough. Storing the letter away he simply got up and left the dorms heading directly to the maul. He wasn't sure what he was going to get but he knew he wanted to get her something instead of just writing her a small note, no matter how sincere it would have been, and just leaving it at that.
There was a lot of poking around into stores but mostly within the jewelry sections simply because that seemed the best more long lasting gift than foods, cloth, or other trinkets that he could get.
Pottery broke.
Clothes tore.
Food was meant to be eaten.
It left him with a few too little avenues especially since he didn't really know the instructor very well at all. His writing hand still felt tender and sometimes he couldn't make a good fist with his hand. She'd definitely made a very firm and lasting impression on him, that meant she deserved a gift that was just as long lasting as that.
As he paused and stared at a selection of pendants his eyes caught sight of one that was a cobra shaped pendant, it was golden and laden with emeralds, onyx, and some sort of red stone that Kettil couldn't really identify but it looked perfect to him, even if some might have called this particular pendant 'gaudy' in terms of style and representation. Kettil pointed it out while waving to the sales attendant who was a tall female ghost of some origin or another.
"How much for this?" He had asked the attendant cheerfully as he pointed through the glass where the pendant laid on a bit of black satin cloth.
The attendant, named Sien, peered at down at where he pointed before she seemed to brighten up cheerfully, "That is three silver seeds, sir," she replied. The ghost then gave him a conspiring sort of stare as she leaned forward, "For a ghoulfriend~?"
Kettil laughed outright at that as he shook his head, "What?! Naw, naw! It is for my instructor to thank her for looking out for my wellbeing. My ghoulfriend wouldn't like this sorta thing, plus she's away at the moment so...It wouldn't be practical to get her anythin' like that unless I can give it to her personal, right?" The Muut was blushing slightly.
Sien giggled and waved a hand, "That's true, that's true. We ghouls do love when our boils dote on us in person," she chattered in a friendly tone, "would you like to purchase this for your teacher then?" She said hoping, above all else, to make a sale.
He stared down at it and then nodded slightly and soon the transaction occurred and promptly completed. It didn't take long before he exited the maul and went directly back to his dorm with a small black box in hand.
Kettil took a few moments to write out a note before he delivered the gift to Selene's office simply placing it into her inbox, though usually reserved for assignments; he figured she would enjoy getting this as well instead of something new to grade. After a few moments of fussing at his decisions he simply left before she could return to check on the inbox hoping she would like what he had gotten for her. It was simply a gift of appreciation and admiration.
The note rested peacefully within the box nested there like a little egg, wrapped around the pendant.

Dear Teach,
I'm sorry ya got hurt on my account and I hope you are recovering quickly. I wish I had stayed to be of help but what is done is done, I guess. I look forward to when you can return teachin' again, and I hope I can attend the class!
Please, take care.
