Haides sighed as he took a rest, closing his eyes as he laid down in the shade of a large boulder. He'd found that there were less and less Azrien coming up to talk to him as he traveled south. Apparently the faint scent of humans had clung to his coat at the beginning of his journey; maybe that was why. The Six and their followers dominated the south, after all, and they despised two-leggers. Well, as long as no one bothered him, he didn't care much... He let his eyes slide closed, his exhaustion and the heat lulling him into a light sleep.

Punk C.A.B. was bored. With most of the other Azrien around him training for upcoming battles with the north, he was finding that conversation topics were growing increasingly limited. Although Punk had no problems with sparring and the like, it grew boring and tedious after a while. So he decided to go explore the northern edges of the Six's territory. He'd talked with a few neutrals, but they weren't exceptionally interesting; after conversing a while, he'd just moved on.
His gaze fell on a boulder with a strange shadow up ahead, soliciting his attention. Upon closer inspection he realized it was a dozing Azrien. A pair of vibrant blue eyes became visible and fixed on him as he approached. "Hello," he greeted. "I haven't seen you around here before."

Haides had heard hoofsteps, so he opened his eyes to identify the owner. He found an Azrien that looked more like a bird than anything else. "I'm traveling," he replied simply to the other stallion's comment. He looked friendly enough, but that didn't mean he was safe. There was no telling if he was a dangerous Azrien like his adopted parents always said the Six's followers were or if he was simply being curious. It was best to keep an eye on him, just in case.

Well, that was the simple way to answer that question. When he realized that the black stallion didn't plan on continuing, he spoke again. "I'm Punk C.A.B., by the way. And you are...? Y'know, besides traveling." When the Azrien's eyebrow rose, he corrected himself. "I mean, what's your name?"

The bird Azrien seemed to be waiting for something. But then he started speaking. Punk C.A.B.? That was a strange name. At his initial question, Haides simply raised an eyebrow at him. He was clearly trying to be funny, but that just made the question confusing. At his correction, the eyebrow returned to its normal level. "... Haides."

"Nice to meet you, Haides. ... You aren't from the underworld, by chance, are you?" Punk couldn't help it; he just found that names made these little teasings pop out of his mouth. Sometimes he wondered if he did it just to see what buttons he'd pushed on the Azrien around him; he indeed found their reactions amusing. But that wasn't the only reason, he knew. Maybe it was because it helped him figure out the personalities of others; maybe it just instinct. No matter what the reason behind his name puns, however, he did want to see this quieter stallion's reaction.

Haides resisted the urge to sigh at the teasing. "Likewise. And no, I'm not. I'm just unseen,"* he replied calmly. He didn't know why Punk C.A.B. decided to strike up a conversation with him, but he had, so the stallion would simply have to deal with it until the bird Azrien got bored of him. Well, maybe it wouldn't be so bad...
(( *A pun on his name, which means "unseen" ))

Punk blinked, then grinned. "Well, that makes sense. I almost didn't see you. So, unseen traveler, do you mind if I join you for a bit?" Not only was this stallion interesting (he made name puns too, it seemed), but it was getting hot and he'd been walking for a while.

"... Sure." Haides doubted that the Azrien would've just left by him saying no. He sort of reminded him of Beta in that sense. He shifted so that the bird Azrien would have some shade, watching him lay down before turning his attention to the landscape. There was a lot less vegetation down here... When he turned his attention back to Punk, he found the stallion staring at him. "... What?"

Punk C.A.B. waited for the stallion to finish shifting before laying down in the shade of the boulder. As Haides gazed distantly at the scenery around them, the bird Azrien found himself staring at him. When the black stallion turned and gave his one-word question, he smiled sheepishly. "Sorry. You're just different. You're rhythm's a lot quieter than the ones I'm used to hearing." He tilted his head. "But it's also a bit garbled, to tell the truth... something on your mind?"

Haides blinked. He hadn't expected that. "My... rhythm?" What was that supposed to mean? He wasn't music. "Garbled?" So this supposed rhythm of his was unclear? Hard to hear? The last question he replied to almost instinctively. "Of course there is. That is why I am traveling." To sort out his thoughts, to find his path through life. Observing the paths of others, listening to their words, collecting them and compiling them with his own experiences and emotions to create his answer.

"Yeah." Punk tried to think of another way to put it. "Well, it's hard to explain. Your rhythm's... sort of like the musical vibe I get from you, I guess. You know, your personality, your thoughts... the essence of the one that is known as Haides. Mind's loud, intense, and... well, sort of obnoxious. Yours is... quiet and garbled. But not garbled because it's quiet. Something's messing with your groove, your rhythm." He blinked at the half-explanation he got from the black stallion. "So... mind specifying? I'm not a mind reader or anything. I'm assuming your referencing the purpose of a journey that you haven't told me yet, but..."

Haides nodded. It sort of made sense. This stallion seemed to have a similar talent to Beta. At his question, he sighed. He didn't like talking... "I'm traveling to decide the path I wish to take. My parents were of opposing alignments and both were killed because of those alignments. My adopted family is mainly aligned with the human king, but..." Was that his path too? Or would he walk down a different route?

"Ah, so you're on one of those soul-searching journeys." Punk grinned and continued before the stallion could argue. "Soul-searching and path-searching are pretty much the same thing. The right path is where your heart is, so your soul knows where it's gotta be." He tossed his head. "Or somethin' like that. Anyway, maybe that's why your rhythm's so garbled. Bet you have someone you're itching to get back to, right?" Haides didn't say anything, but he had that look in his eyes... Punk chuckled. "Your look says it all. You might as well start heading back north to that someone. The only thing you're gonna find south of here is 'join or die' threats. Trust me on that one. You might not be a King's horse yourself, but if your whole fam's with 'em... they're not exactly going to be friendly towards you."
