Things, realistically, could have gone better for Aventine. She'd been cramming all sorts of interaction into her life, and had been surprisingly fruitful in meeting new faces.
Just. Not the right new faces.
She'd met a handful of order aligned folk, gotten some good information, made a few friends. Met a lot of enemies, and had a lot of bruises to show for it. Thankfully, living alone and knowing how to apply makeup had been a saving grace in keeping this night life secret.
She wasn't out for trouble—not out for a fight. She was out because she wasn't a quitter, and she had nobody waiting for at home, didn't have class or work tomorrow. And because she wanted to get stronger, that too. Or at least stop looking like such a loser every time she met someone new.
It was like she'd missed out on the first day of classes and never gotten a syllabus. Or notes. Or anything.
The vast majority of her encounters had been with people her level, so when she felt the pleasant tingle of someone order aligned, her first impression was that it must be Tsui—which meant that maybe tonight would be a little more interesting. Or, at the very least, she could be sure that no nasty youma or corrupted senshi were going to give her any trouble.
She had been wandering somewhat aimlessly (albeit, she'd been waiting for some order aura to show up) so when she sensed one so strong, she immediately set her course towards them, hoping they met up with her before trouble did.

As was very much his habit, Athene had picked up a hot drink from the late night diner near the hospital – one white chocolate caramel mocha – and was alternating between sipping from the flavoured hot drink and using the insulated cup as a heat aid. Unlike the Venus Page it was possible that you could say that the dark-haired senshi was out for trouble – or at least keeping an eye out for trouble – given that he was looking out for youma, which were nasty things and tended to come in even nastier packages. After all dusting youma was kind of part of the (very much) unwritten job description. It had been a pretty quiet patrol so far though and the flare of a non-chaos aura was a welcome distraction. The source of the aura seemed to be heading in his direction and turning Athene back tracked his steps in an attempt to try intercept – maybe whoever it was wouldn’t mind a spot of company for a little bit.

With the two heading towards each other, it was only a short amount of time before Aventine found the senshi she'd picked up on her radar. She wasn't sure what she was expecting, but a guy with a drink took her by surprise. She blinked at him as she approached, not quite sure if there was some sort of code of conduct she ought to be presenting herself with.
At least this one wasn't jumping out of trees at her, so that was a plus. Judging by his power level, he was a Super, same as Tsui.
"Hey," she greeted when the two neared. A grin split upon her face as she looked him over, seeming to like what she saw. "I'm glad to run into one of you guys, tonight. I was kinda worried tonight was going to be bad, but I guess things have turned in my favor, a bit. Aventine," she introduced, extending a hand in greeting.

The source of the aura turned out to be a copper-haired woman, in an outfit of mostly pink with some orange and gold. “Good evening Aventine” Athene returned the Page’s greeting – at least the aura suggested a Page – with one of his own. “It’s nice to meet you. I’m Sailor Athene” he held out the hand that wasn't holding the hot drink “I’m the senshi of beads.” Although he’d met a few of the Knights, the Page wasn’t one that the dark-haired senshi was familiar with.

She was still in the process of flashing a smile and reaching to shake his hand when he introduced himself as the senshi of beads. She hadn't intended to be so surprised, but couldn't help but immediately quirk her head questionably.
"Beads?" she asked, wondering if she had misheard. "Like," she gave one final shake and then slipped her hands from him. "Pretty jewelry beads?"
…Well, his outfit was certainly indicating such. "That's…kinda neat," she said, nodding approvingly despite still seeming a bit confused. "I hate to sound so new, but…you know how you're all senshi of different things? How do you get to be that way? I mean, why are you senshi of beads and, like—Tsui, do you know her? She's the senshi of Tigers. Do you get to pick what you're the senshi of, or is it…random? And what does it mean?"
She hesitated and then laughed a second later. "Sorry to bombard you with questions, I'm still…figuring this whole thing out."

“Yes beads” Athene said with a nod. He gave Aventine a rueful smile “My senshi ability can trap things in beads for a bit – at least when it works.” Despite working better since his upgrade, his senshi ability still seemed to have a mind of its own and didn’t always work. He gave Aventine a rueful smile at her question of how did senshi get to be that way, “To be honest I don’t know” he shook his head slightly as he spoke, the movement causing the beads woven into his braid to click-clack against each other gently. “No, I’ve not met a senshi called Tsui before.” At least he was pretty sure he hadn’t. “And no beads wasn’t something I chose.” If Athene had been given a choice in the matter he wouldn’t have chosen such a unreliable senshi ability. “I was given a pen, a henshin pen, from a talking cat and discovered that I could power up into this” he indicated his outfit, before adding “Well it was a pretty much a shorts and t-shirt get up to start off with.” The trousers and gloves had come after he’d upgraded a rank. "And I don't mind being asked questions, although you'd probably be better off asking a guardian cat about how senshi get to be senshi" he admitted.

“Oh, damn," she huffed, seeming disappointed. "I just saw a guardian cat—Zirconia?--a few days ago. If I'd had known to ask, I would have. I'll have to keep that in mind, though. The next time I see one, though, I'll definitely badger them. So—you've been a senshi for a while, I take it? You're a super," she noted, following her point. "How did you get to be that strong?"
She hadn't really had time to ask Tsui, both from newness and from the youma that had interrupted their conversation. A part of her was just curious about how the senshi grew in strength, but the other part of her wondered if there was a way to harness that power for herself. She hadn't been in many situations where being new had been a massive pain in the a**, but with the way some of her battles had gone so far, she knew that one day she might be required to step up her game. She didn't want to end up a casualty, and if it was one thing she'd learned so far, it was that things could get rough…and she didn't want to be the only one struggling to make it.

“I’ve not met Zirconia either,” Athene admitted. “Although I’ve only met three guardian cats, ********* pretty friendly though.” She was also the talking cat in question who had taught him how to power up that first time. “Actually when I started out I pretty much didn’t have a clue” Athene admitted. “I went to summer camp” his first and only to date. “And while there met a talking cat who gave me a henshin pen and told me that apparently I had this alternative secret identity and was supposed to protect people from having their soul crystals stolen by the Negaverse.” He gave Aventine another rueful smile “I um didn’t take it very well.” Actually the dark-haired senshi’s initial reaction had been that ********* had somehow made a mistake. “Unfortunately, this stuff doesn’t really come with a how-to manual so I’ve ended up pretty much muddling through.” He shook his head at Aventine’s mention of strength “Actually I wouldn’t say I’m strong – not yet” the dark-haired senshi still felt that he had a way to go. “I upgraded to this during a fight against a youma – a pretty nasty one. It had cornered a civilian” He bit his lip – that civilian in question had turned out to be a friend – one of his good friends. “********* upgraded my henshin pen and after that I was able to power up to this. I’ve heard that it’s different for Knights though.” Although he didn’t have that much information on Knights the dark-haired senshi had picked up some information from the senshi and knight meeting.

Different for knights? Jeez, so lame. She'd have to hit up a knight and try to wring out some information, though she was relatively disappointed that no one had an easy answer for everything.
"Well, I can see why you wouldn't have taken it well. If I'd had a talking cat telling me 'Bam! Time to save the universe!' I might have made a fuss. I had a lady, though—Caelian?" she prompted, hoping that name might ring a bell. She didn't linger on it, however, and continued, "She was the one who found me. This thing—youma," she corrected, "Was chasing me. I was totally content to just run, but she was there and really saved my a**. And that's when I," she gestured to her outfit, to summarize the situation. She let out a sigh of relief when she remembered Caelian being there. "…I'd have been totally lost if she wasn't there. I honestly might have gone home and checked myself into an insane asylum or something. It's…just so much," she said, still seeming a tad bit overwhelmed with all of it.

Athene shook his head “I’m sorry I’ve not heard of her either” the name seemed vaguely familiar though, although the dark-haired senshi wasn’t quite able to place from where. He nodded in agreement at the ‘too much’ comment “I still find the whole thing pretty crazy at times,” he admitted. “But it’s hard to argue about things like youma – not after encountering them face to face. Even if they do sound like something that should come out of some sort of horror tale. By the way I’ve heard that knights can find rings” Polaris had mentioned it at the senshi and knight meeting “which they can use to send messages somehow. Although it seems to be connected to your wonder.” Small as it was mayhaps Aventine would find the information of some use.

This seemed to be the sort of thing Aventine was interested in—something related to knights—something she could look into.
…And look into, she would.
There were a lot of questions that had accumulated since she'd first started, and realistically it would be best if she directed her questions towards veteran knights. It just seemed so hard to find them.
Of course, she really did need to figure out something so that she wasn't just asking a million more questions. Caelian was the best bet, but she didn't want to make a bad impression on the woman and wanted to show that she could definitely be relied on to handle herself. "I'll be sure to check that out," she said, grinning. "Thanks. Now—rings aside. Youma. It's—what the hell are they, really, do you know? I mean, where do they come from? I know they're gross and need to be stopped, but like."
Her face scrunched up and she donned an obvious expression of distaste. "What are they?"

Athene frowned in thought. “I guess it probably sounds a little crazy, but I’ve always thought of youma of kind of like monsters” they certainly preyed on people like monsters out of a horror movie. “And I’m not sure for certain but I think the Negaverse has something to do with them.” For a moment he looked at the takeout cup in his hands before continuing “Last year the Negaverse crashed a city council meeting and killed a bunch of civilians and they had youma with them there which they let loose on the civilians. They crashed one of our meetings recently too – them and the Dark Mirror senshi. They had youma there too.” He looked up from the cup with a sigh “The youma seem to come in all shapes and sizes though and some are easier to dust than others.”

Immediately seeming displeased, it was easy to decipher Aventine's stance on youmas.
Describing them as monsters was just about as plain cut as it could get; they were monsters. But apparently so was the Negaverse. Crashing a city council meeting? Killing civilians?
…Yeah, it was pretty obvious that these guys needed to be taken care of, ASAP. It was one thing to be up to no good and steal a little energy. It was a completely different thing to be killing people. What the hell was the purpose? Just normal civilians?
She shook her head. The Dark Mirror Court probably weren't much better if they were working with monsters like that. "Damn," she muttered. "So these guys are like—the mob, but with supernatural allies or something?"
That was the stuff of movies, and while Aventine knew that IRL and Movie!Verse were too different things…that was a flick she'd have been more than willing to indulge in.

“I guess” Athene agreed. “Then again I guess the authority equivalent” or what passed for one “Would also be seen to have supernatural allies.” After all talking cats probably didn’t fall under mundane and that was before you took into account the variety of senshi and knight abilities out there. He looked thoughtfully at the takeout cup in his hands before continuing “By the way you should be careful with the Dark Mirror senshi – for some reason some of them seem to have a real grudge against knights.”

Aventine's lips pursed with this last warning, and she found herself a bit more unnerved. The Dark Mirror Court was something she'd heard mentioned several times over—and not just from Athene. She had met only two so far, and though Aurora had not made a terrible impress, Toutatis might have been enough to convince Aventine that there was something to all these warnings.
"Why?" she asked, tilting her head. "I mean—I've heard that they don't like knights, but I don't really understand. I haven't done anything to any of them. I had a nice conversation with one of them, too—Aurora? She was very friendly. Another one and I didn't get along so well, but…" She shrugged. "Is there something I should know? Like, is this some grudge or something? Did we do something?"
