Mbari was in a stunned silence. Even the busy roar of the Pridelands and their families could not wake him from his stupor. Resting his large golden and copper mane on his white toed paws his amber eyes cast over to the family den which he could see from his spot. He looked down at his paw. The same marking as his father. He felt like he'd stopped breathing, and all of the word was spinning, way too fast. His family life had been shattered, his mother was in pieces inside, although she held it together well on the exterior. He had recently fought for change in his life but this was change he would never wish upon anyone. He had so many happy memories in that family den. Maybe he should focus on those. A sad smile crept onto his face.

Though for Mbari this day seemed particularly disastrous, in contrast it wasn't going too badly for Tsukiko. She had gone through a very nice hunt, and managed to catch Chokuto doing something amusing, and, as usual, very stupid. So she was in pretty high spirits as she went about her normal wandering.

It was a little unusual that she would have noticed Mbari. She tended to be rather distracted and deep in thought, but at one point in her walk she looked up and around and saw him. She still remembered their first encounter quite well, and was curious to see how a change in his life was going. But it didn't take long for Tsukiko to realize he was... not well.

She approached, initially a little hesitant, but... Tsukiko was always willing to listen and talk, what if he needed it? "Mbari?" She asked, gently, once close enough. "What is wrong?" Not 'are you alright', because clearly he wasn't.

He looked up to see a large dark form looming over him, but it as not threatening. The image triggered as familiar and his amber eyes opened to take in her face. "Tsukiko!" He found a genuinely glad smile. Tsukiko was the lioness whom had managed to calm him and make him think about his life in a more logical way. The way they had spoken and philosophized at their first encounter had become a basis for a new way of thinking for him, at least, it had until this. His heart dropped a little, but he was surprised she knew something was wrong, he guessed his body language was obvious.

Mbari didn't want to turn the encounter into something negative, but he had to tell her. Otherwise she wouldn't know why he was in a such a mood. Maybe he should have stayed with his mother to comfort her more, not to get fresh air. Thinking alone had started to make him panic again. "M-My father, he passed away a few days ago. He w-was very old, and we all knew it was coming. H-he lived a good life, though." He smiled gently. This time it was not just the nerves tripping up his words, but the grief that was choking him. Him and his father had been very close, and it hurt to see his mother in such a way.

She smiled only briefly, once he said her name. Because smiling when you ran into someone was the proper thing to do. She was also happy he seemed glad to see her, everyone liked being appreciated in some way. But Mbari's answer to her question meant, of course, Tsukiko couldn't smile long.

"Oh, Mbari. I'm so sorry." She said. Of course he looked so upset. "Losing a loved one is never easy." Tsukiko had the fortune of not going through something like this thus far, but she could imagine very clearly how it felt. Not all of her pondering was dealt with in a very matter-of-fact way, and sometimes they did get to her. And this lion had just gone through the real deal.

Though Mbari hadn't invited her, she took the initiative to sit next to him. Not touching, but there if he needed it. "Would you... like to talk about it?" She asked, gently. "Or I could keep you some company."

He appreciated the fact that she had come to sit beside him. Just that alone made him feel somewhat better, like he had someone to rely on that wasn't his mother. As much as they had been each others support, he needed others sometimes, friends, people closer to his own age that had different experiences.
"I'm not sure w-what to say about it, it was peaceful, and I know i-its part of the circle of life, I guess I just need to m-move on with things, slowly, and s-still remember him." He nodded and for once took the initiative, and surprised himself. Mbari pulled himself off the ground, even though the dark lioness had only just sat down, and looked to the horizon. "W-walk with me?"

She nodded. His reasoning was a pretty healthy one, and she had nothing to say about that. As long as he didn't start feeling bad about being sad, because it was perfectly fine to be sad when your father died.

If Tsukiko minded that he wanted go get up right after she sat (for the record, she didn't, of course), she gave no indication and gladly got bad on her paws. "I'd be happy to walk with you, Mbari." He was hurting, even though he seemed to be dealing with it well, and she'd provide him with company and comfort if he needed it.

He stood up and looked to her again with a kind, grateful smile. "I would like to show you something." His golden paws thudded as he drove himself from a funeral march into something with more purpose. He beckoned to Tsukiko as he did so, leading the way. He wanted to take her to the place where he had managed to grow within himself. The one place he had not shared with his mother, or any of his family for that matter. He guess others would have found it, it was just on the border of the pridal lands and therefore very accessible, but he could think of no better time to find it, and wanted to share it with someone.

Show her something? That was curious, but she only nodded. Tsukiko would gladly go along with whatever Mbari wanted to do now, the golden male could probably use the companionship. He seemed to be dealing well enough with his father's death, but nonetheless deserved some extra care and attention in a time like this. And notwithstanding the circumstances, he was just a generally good lion; she enjoyed being around him. The change in his walk was noticed, and she picked up her pace somewhat to match his own.

He appreciated her coming along with him, he really did. He sped up again only to drop back a little, he didn't want to appear frantic. He led Tsukiko to the border, and looked at her tentatively hoping it would be okay. There, was a lush greenery, small, but in somewhat of a cluster. It appeared to be its own small land, just large enough for two or three to gather in it, and delicately decorated and fenced with foliage. Mbari smiled, "T-this is where I come to think, sometimes, and it's beautiful, I just wanted to show you what it's like inside, it's like our own l-little island, but here."

Tsukiko often ended up on the pride borders, or even past them, when wandering around and thinking. So she wasn't worried at all by the distances he was taking her to, if quietly surprised Mbari himself would chose to go this far. Considering he wasn't exactly the most adventurous lion! But she was happy to see a different side of him.

When they finally arrived to their destination, she wondered if she had ever been here before. She couldn't have been, or else, wouldn't she have noticed it before? It was just so... beautiful. The thought that she might have simply walked by, or even through, and never noticed this cluster was even a little troubling! "I-it's beautiful." Tsukiko agreed, tilting her head briefly. She supposed she did miss out on some things when she lived in outer space. "Thank you for bringing here, Mbari."

He smiled at her again, gently. It was indeed unusually for him to venture so far, but with his social anxiety issues, or whatever his siblings had called it, he found it easy to take himself off to some place alone. It helped him to think, to relax, when he wasn't interrupted. It was however, the first time he had ever shown anyone.

He did not doubt that others had found it. The Pridelands was a densely populated place, and it was right on the border, but to him, it was his own little place. "I'm g-glad you think so." His large eyes did not focus on the ground this time, but on Tsukiko. "I've never shown anyone before. B-but what you said to me, even the first time we met, it's m-made a difference." His stutter was still there, but hey, he had pretty much convinced himself it was genetic.

Sorry for being so slow @__@ school has really bogged me down.

She wasn't so sure what to think about this. It seemed like there was something happening here. Were they having a moment? As soon as that occurred to Tsukiko, she deliberately decided not to think about it. This wasn't something to ponder over, at least not presently.

"I'm glad I could help you in any way." She smiled, and took a step to affectionately headbutt him, gently and briefly. "You're a good lion. If you need help you deserve it." She nodded. "And I value your friendship very much as well, Mbari. I enjoy talking to you very much."

Her words were unlike any other he'd heard before.

Well, he'd heard such compliments from family, but they didn't count. To be able to hear something like that from someone who had been a stranger, and to be able to start letting someone in, over the paranoia and the fear... Well, it meant a lot to Mbari.

He cracked a smile, one that finally reached his eyes. "You too, are a good lion Tsukiko. I d-don't know what I'd d-do without you to talk to s-sometimes. I don't have m-many friends, as you know."

He took a deep breath. "If-if you don't mind, I'd very much like to keep seeing you, y-you make me feel better."

It was rather juvenile way of summing it up, but it was true nonetheless, and Mbari hadn't exactly had a whole worlds worth of experience in the matter. His golden fur started to become hot and his eyes darted around the tiny oasis quickly.

What if he shouldn't have said it? What if she didn't understand, what if she said no? The panic began to bubble up inside his stomach.

It felt silly to be embarrassed, because Tsukiko was fully aware there was no reason to be. He wasn't the first to ever compliment her, nor was he even doing so very emphatically. And yet she felt a little sheepish now.

Perhaps the better word for how she felt was flattered, or meek. "I don't mind, I'd love to." She managed to say, evenly enough, though she had a sudden childish desire to cover her face with her paws. Maybe his own natural nervousness was sort-of rubbing off on her, if only for a little bit.

It was hard to talk about oneself in this manner, and so Tsukiko would be happy to put the focus elsewhere. But she didn't really know just where, for once, so she smiled and decided to explore the little 'island' a bit. "This is really a lovely place."

A weight had been lifted from the golden lion, and he no longer felt the veil of embarrassment that so often lay across his face. Tsukiko was kind, she was honest, and she was the kind of lioness that he had been hoping to meet for a long while, if truth be told.

The fact that she said she'd love to, well, that just topped everything off in his eyes.

Despite what had happened in his life, despite the recent grief and heartache, he felt that no matter what happened, this was a new dawn, and a new day for him.

"Yes, yes it is"
