Alone again. Naturally. Then again, sometimes 'alone' was how the stallion preferred it. When the alternative was danger, or violence, or even just simply annoyance, the peaceful calm and quiet of being alone was definitely the better choice.

The sun shone warmly against his back, but not unpleasantly so. In fact, he seemed to have slept in an odd position that resulted in some stiff muscles this morning, so the additional heat felt wonderful. He yawned, pausing to stretch and shake out his shoulders before continuing on his way. Against his dark coat, his green eyes glittered like emeralds, slowly drifting their way over the landscape in a deceptively lax manner. He had no set destination in mind; he traveled because there was nothing better to do. He'd get bored of one place, or perhaps those who dwell within it, and he'd move on to the next. His feathered tail swished along casually behind him, brushing over his tracks in the dirt, and stirring up mini dust clouds from time to time.

Perhaps he'd find a place to stop and have a drink. Yes, short term goal. Good. Something to do today. He lifted his head, sniffing the air with eyes closed, then altered his path a bit to the right before plodding along.

User ImageShe was running, but for once she wasn’t running away. Having spent enough time around a blind Azerin who worried over his bonded Ayira wanted to be on her own for a bit. Humans still made her feel a bit uneasy but it wasn’t the blatant disregard for them that her emotions had once been. She didn’t want to think on such matter though so she didn’t. Instead she focused on the ground below her hooves and the sun shining down on her back. The wind was cold as she ran but to the mare that cold sting was nothing more than a small bite of freedom. A smile graced her maw as she ran. Ahead of her Sundar Lake. She was getting more familiar with the isle now well at least part of it. She was going to the southern part of the lake were she had not seen any azrein when she had last gone there. It would be quite and wonderful peaceful. She wouldn’t have to talk and then have others misunderstand her. She wouldn’t have to deal with humans. It would be grand. She hadn’t feel so alive in a long time since she left her pack ages ago. Ah no it was herd. Ayira still couldn’t believe that Azrein were so different here from where she grew up in the heat and sun.

Water, lots of it. He could smell it. He was getting closer; it was somewhere to the north, but if there was as much as there seemed, as long as he kept moving in this general direction, he was sure to find it. And the sun had risen high enough that it was starting to grow quite warm, though that might just have to do with how much heat his dark coat absorbed. He picked up the pace until his mane streamed behind him, braids snapping in the wind, hooves pounding the earth.

The wind helped keep him cool, though he had grown thirsty now. Fortunately, in the distance, he could already see the glimmer of sunlight reflecting off the water's surface. The destination grew larger, the nearer he got, and he realized that he'd found more than some mere stream or pond. It was a great lake of some sort, though he couldn't say he'd been here before. He would have remembered such a place.

He slowed to take in the sight, dropping from a run to a trot to a slow walk, gazing about to commit the place to memory. It seemed quiet enough here, peaceful. And besides, there was a good water supply, obviously. Maybe he could rest here for a while.

A sound in the distance caused his ears to twitch, searching for the source. He'd stopped running, else he might have heard it before. The sound of hooves. Perhaps not so quiet afterall, he thought bitterly. They were not the heavy, bass beats of his own hooves, they were swift, but different in pitch somehow. Lighter. He cast his gaze over the plains, eyes narrowed against the light of the sun and seeking who might disturb his new-found paradise.

Running full tilt forward she never noticed the other Azrein. All she could see was her goal before her. Sweat had formed on her flanks from her run and she knew she’d be a mess. There was a good way to take care of that though. She kept running at the lake and didn’t stop until the water was just above her hooves it was then that rather that halting she jumped into the air further into the lake. Landing with a splash she considered heading even deeper into the lake, but the cold water made her think twice. She just supposed being a mess was the better alternative to freezing to death. Turning she finally noticed that she was not alone.

Her first thoughts where wondering who this was and how she could get them to leave. As much as she disliked her gravelly voice perhaps it would serve her well in this aspect. Most others who heard her speak assumed she was growling. Few Azrein would want to stay in a place where there was someone even remotely threatening about. “Hello.” She walked toward the other Azrein calmly as if she had known he had been there all along. It was an act but she figured it would be fine. “What are you doing here?” She had no idea if this Azrein actually lived here or not only being a visitor herself. She wasn’t the smartest Azrein or the bravest but she was quite lucky. Maybe this male would just answer her questions honestly and it would save her the pain of having to guess at why he was here and who he was. She had been sure no other Azrein lived at this section of the lake. At least there hadn’t been the last time she was here. What if he had just moved here. Doubt flickered in her eyes.

Well, if he'd had any trouble finding her, he didn't after her 'subtle' entrance. Not the most discrete Azrein, was she? Splashing about, no concern for who or what might be about. If only Valair could be so flippant. It just wasn't in his nature.

Other than the single eyebrow quirked in her direction, the stallion's expression was blank. She'd greeted him, yet then responded bluntly, a question that might be taken with hostile nature. However, if she'd wanted to be truly hostile, there would have been no greeting at all, nor a question, likely only an attack. Therefore, he wasn't yet alarmed by her presence; only curious to discover more before making a decision.

"At the moment, standing here watching a stranger dive into a pond," he answered equally as bluntly, the ghost of a smirk touching his lips. Her rough voice had been a bit startling at first, but he kept his expressions veiled. His own voice was deep, but more of a smooth baritone than the rough, gravel-like nature of the female's. "I thought it might be a bit chilly for a swim," he continued, canting his head in her direction. "But I came only to get a drink. I was not aware anyone else was about. Is this your territory then?" he questioned. He wasn't looking for a fight, but apparently, neither was she, if she'd hesitated to protect her claim.

She snorted and walked out of the water towards the male. “It was jumping, and it was fun.” Her gravelly voice still making her sound annoyed as ever. She moved a bit down on the bank away from the male before shaking off. “The waters cold but it feels good. You might want to consider taking a swim if you feel warm at all. Just don’t make it a long one or I’ll have to wait for a heat wave to thaw you out.” She flipped her tail about trying to get some of the water off of it. The cold water had done just the thing after her long run. She felt so much more refreshed and alive. Maybe that was why she felt like talking so much. “This territory is open. At least I think it is. I’ve been here few times and you’re the first I’ve seen here.” If this wasn’t his territory and she’d been her more did that make it hers in some way? Not having the answer to that she decided on something she rarely did. She smiled at the male. If he came here for a drink she’d let him have one and then see if she couldn’t get the place back to herself in a non violent way.

A swim? Well, he wasn't like to go diving in as the female had done. On the other hand, his back was a bit warm from the sun shining down directly most of the morning. Perhaps a quick dip wouldn't be a bad idea.

"What a relief. I wouldn't want to impose on a lady's territory," he answered smoothly, stepping closer to the water's edge. He peered into the waters before proceeding, looking back in time to catch the female's smile. He answered in kind, with a polite nod of his head. Just because he knew better than to trust others, didn't mean he also didn't know that you best pretend that you did. It helped to avoid more fights that way, rather than stupid dominance battles over giving someone the wrong look or impression.

"I suppose I should do that, if that's what you recommend," he continued, stepping hoof-by-hoof into the chilly waters. It felt cool and refreshing now, but he was sure it would only feel colder the longer he stayed in. Best cool off and get out. He continued until the water nearly touched his belly, took a deep breath to steel himself, then ducked down into the water, completely submerging himself, if only for a second. He rose back up, tossing water here and there, shaking his head and stifling a shiver. As he headed back to the bank, the water ran over his dark coat, rejoining the still liquid below as he retreated from the lake.

"Well, now, that was...bracing," he chuckled, finding sure footing on the bank a short distance away from the female to shake off most of the water. His long tail snapped once, like a whip, flinging water back in the general direction of the lake. "I must commend you on your suggestion." Any traces of hostility seemed to have faded between the two. And while he would have preferred to remain alone, he supposed one other Azrein didn't completely spoil the pristine location. At least, she didn't seem particularly annoying yet; and he had to admit, the spark in her earlier answer had amused him.

She snorted at him calling her a lady. She wasn’t one of those fragile little spoiled mares. Still she didn’t correct him. She watched him listen to her and go in the water feeling very very amused. Well if that was all it took to get him to listen to her then she might as well just tell him to go away and be done with it. Still shaking off a bit she barked out a laugh when he called the chilly water ‘bracing’. “What are you some kind of noble? Cold is cold. It can feel good but …” She shook her head still smiling. Of all the comments she expected to hear that one didn’t even register as a possibility. Her eyes peeked out from under her ragged mane. Unbelievable maybe having the male wasn’t a bad thing if he kept being as funny as he was, that frozen water ‘bracing’. Shocking, appalling, frosty, bitter, arctic, wintry, but bracing? You might as well call a snowstorm a little brisk.

Her hooves danced on the ground as she looked around. They were still alone which was nice. Perhaps the male’s presence would discourage others from coming up. Males did tend to be more imposing then females as Ayira knew from experience. If that was the case then she could take a run around the waterside and still come back here to lay down and relax without worry of finding more strange azrein in the area. Though this one was certainly strange. She glanced at his tail having never seen it’s like before. She had seen a number of strange things, an Azrein with a horn, a blind male with chains and a mask but this was her fist time seeing such a strange tail. She shook her head tearing her gaze away. It wasn’t like she was one to talk of strangeness with her voice the way it was. Others mistook the gravel for a growl and she was blunt in her thoughts and it showed in her speech. There were enough misunderstandings about her that she shouldn’t judge others so quick. “Name.”
