Not even a day had passed since a strange mare had come and taken away one of her new foals. Erumara didnt know what would happen to the boy, but she felt a loss in a part of her heart when a child had been taken from her. It was odd since when she had the children next to her she was having difficulty looking at them. Shaking her head she set aside the twisted maze of her heart and nuzzled the blankets. It wasnt their fault their father was a monster. She had to stop thinking about him when she looked at them. Hearing one of the girls make a little whinnying noise she scooted it closer to her with her wing. There there little one. Im here. Why was she still here? A part of her wanted to get up and leave but she thought that might make her as bad as some of the stories from the south she had heard. Sighing she wondered what she was going to do with three little foals that she didnt ask for. Perhaps she could ask her friend Caladwen Eruliss. Her friend was always positive and would have a solution in mind for certain. She just had to find Caladwen in the plains which could be difficult if she couldnt fly.

User Image Darrian had just left his family. The meeting with his...niece and nephew went fairly well he thought but he couldn't sit by idly and do nothing. He had promised his brother Damir that he would start helping around the farm, the easiest Dar thought was patrol. It meant that he could get away, without his sisters, without anyone's prying eyes and just fly. The male normally used this time to just relax, but of course he was always watching the ground. Damir had set up some different patrol lines for them, Cecelia taking the closest ring, his sister flying another ring just out a little ways, Damir making a third one, with himself flying the farthest one. It was easier for him to fly longer and father with his wings than it was for Damir and Cece to run them and of course, being chivalrous as he was he would never make his sister do anything she didn't want to do. Today, he didn't really feel like flying back to the farm after his patrol so he decided to go further out, stretching the normal radius of his patrol to over double. Darrian decided this would be a good workout for his wings and smiled as he rose in height to catch the nice thermal that always seemed to be there. He flew blissfully happy until he felt the burn of his wings and knew he was overworking them. Slipping out of the thermal, his decent was slow and steady as he glided towards the ground. When he was about halfway down, he noticed a few blue specks out in the distance. Wondering what or rather who in the world would be out in the middle of nowhere, he decided to investigate. Dar switched his course easily, landing a little ways away as to not scare who ever it was, he approached on hoof. "Hello?" He called out politely as he neared the blue figure.

Tired and still having her mind reel she never noticed the male until he spoke. Her head jerked up as she looked at him. Remembering the last intrusion into this area she stretched her wings out over her three remaining foals. Her ears were folded back again her skull and she tried to look menacing even though she was scared to death. That male from the south wont have sent more Azein up north to collect more of his children since the female failed would he? It was bad enough one of her sons was gone, she would not loose another! A protective rage and small bit of spite made her mentally stand firm. He would not have more of her children and she would send his little envoys away every time. Go away. These are MY children and Im not letting anyone take any more of them. It said with as much force as she could muster. She wasnt going to let this male or any other have another child of hers. It didnt matter if they threatened, it didnt matter if they hurt her. They might his children, but more importantly than that they were hers. She wanted to stand up and stamp her hooves, but couldnt risk hurting her little ones so she kept on her belly and kept her wings firmly over her babies. Her eyes stayed on the male in front of her. Her gray-blue eyes promised to bite and hurt the male if he came any closer to her. How else she could cause him pain was beyond her but she was beyond her but she was trying to run through options in her mind. Sadly most involved her moving and that would risk hurting her little ones. Frustrated she felt helpless again before another male and that irritated her more than she wanted to admit.

(win for me?)

Darrian instinctively took a few steps back when the mare's ears pinned back, his head even lowered a little bit. He meant her no harm, but what is she saying about taking one of her children? Dar would never do such a thing! The mare said any more of her children, did that mean someone had already taken one? Was this mare in trouble? He imagined his mother fighting for their King's chosen, he imagined her falling. There was no one there for those azrein, there was no one there to help them. It was at this point that Darrian knew he had to help this poor mare, in any way he could. "Ma'am, I am not here to take any of your children. Is everything okay? Is anyone after you?" He said kindly, not taking any more steps towards her, trying to keep himself as nonthreatening as possible. His wings rustled as they reset against his sides. The poor mare seemed scared and hurt, Dar wondered if she was okay. "I am going to lay down now to show you that I am not here to hurt you or your children." Warning before he did so, he knelt and laid down keeping his feet under him. He had left quite a bit of space between them to try to keep her calm.

Ok? She wanted to laugh. Things hadnt been ok since she had gone to the south. She still didnt trust the male went he liad down she was sure it was a trick of some kind. Still keeping her ears back and her eyes on him she decided it didnt matter if he knew or not. No things are not alright and yes there is someone after me. I dont see a point to talking to you about it because I doubt youd be here if he or any of the others came up from the south. She didnt specify if it was an Azrien of the Six or not because she couldnt remember if Meurra had said if he served the Six. Still it was clear to anyone with an ear that any Azrein from down south on the isle would be an Azrein not to be trusted. A lesson she should have known but her good nature had gotten in the way. It was a mistake she didnt intend to keep making. She kept her wings over her little ones even though they were starting to get sore. Why had he laid down? She tilted her neck back and forth feeling stiff. Her legs were numb but right now she couldn’t move them. “Who are you?” It was simple enough question and she didn’t want to sit in silence with this stallion. It was nerve wracking.

The stallion's eyes narrows at the mention of ones from the south, especially when she said they were after her. That protective instinct that was normally reserved for his sisters flared. Darrian could tell that the mare's poor wings were getting tired from holding them over her babies. Maybe after he introduced himself, like he probably should have in the first place, she would not be so ill at ease with him. "My name is Darrian, son of Daria the fallen and Kukai, but raised by my brother Damir bonded to Kyrielle Lian. Ma'am, you have nothing to fear from me. If you are hurt, I can go get my brother and his bonded, or even one of the other humans that live there if you'd feel more comfortable with them, or my brother's mate Cecelia. I was just out on patrol when I decided to fly a little farther south than I normally do. I really didn't mean to frighten you, nor do I have any intention of hurting you or your children, so you may pull your wings in if you would like. Please, if the Six or anyone of the evil alignment is trying to hurt you, please let me help. They have hurt enough innocent souls, caused enough Azrien to fall and caused many humans to hurt because of it. So when I tell you that I mean you no harm, I really do mean it." His mouth felt dry from talking so much but he couldn't help it. He wanted this mare to realize that all he wanted to do was help, especially if the Six were involved. Those azrein, well, beasts, could go straight to...Darrian, stop thinking like that, you'll make yourself angry and scare the poor mare. He mentally scolded himself. Dar did his best to stay calm, wondering if getting one of his sisters or even Cecelia out here to help this mare wouldn't be better than himself. It was obvious that she didn't trust him.

He was longwinded but all the things he said made her think a bit. She didn’t look as agitated by the end of his spiel. If anything she looked a bit less tense. She was eyeing him wearily still but her ears relaxed a bit and her neck muscles weren’t as tight suggesting she was ready to bite at a moment’s notice. A son of one of the fallen? The meant he wasn’t evil right? Not that just meant his parents were good. He was raised by a good Azrein though if his brother was bonded. Shaking her head she declined his offer. “More tired than anything, and I don’t want to deal with more strangers. “ Her wings relaxed just bit as the mare wondered if she could really trust this male. One of her little ones wriggled out from under her right wing and seemed to be trying to investigate the ground. Seeing the little girl move she wanted to stop the filly from moving closer to the male. Sighing she stretched her wing out again and tapped the little one on the top of her blanket that seemed to stop the swirl girl from going any closer to this Darrian. Pulling her wing back she decided she’d just keep an eye on the little one and get up only if she had too. Getting up would mean leaving the other two open and Erumara didn’t like that thought. “Look I don’t know if I believe your story or not. It’s not that I’m trying to be reprobate it’s just that I’m dealing with a lot right now and I.” She didn’t even know where to go from there. She wasn’t sure if she could trust this male a part of her wanted to. She wanted someone there to cry with and to protect her, but she had chosen to keep the little ones she had left and she couldn’t just trust anyone anymore. Her trip south had taught her that. Now she would have to be careful not just for herself but for her children as well. Could this male be trusted? She had thought Me’urra could be trusted and she now knew otherwise.

His face was sad as he looked at her. The poor mare had obviously been through a lot. A slight smile appeared on his face as the little blanket wiggled out from his mother's wings to explore. "I remember when I was that young, my sister Cale was always running off like that. Poor Damir and Cecelia had their hands full with us three. Do you have a large family? I have 4 siblings total, but two of them stayed with my father, after my mother died, he just couldn't care for all of us. And then Damir took us in, so he's kind of like a fatherly figure except he's also my brother. And then there is Damir's siblings, Purnima and Irri which I haven't met at all...Damir rarely talks about them. So I guess I have 7 siblings total." He cocked his head, "And then I have my niece and nephew who are older than me." A smile remained on his face while he talked about his family.

She couldn’t help but be shocked by the huge size of his family. They were a whole herd just by themselves. She could only shake her head at his question. “No, I live with two others but well we travel and more or less just keep crossing paths. I don’t really have anyone. Looking at the little girl in front of her again she felt overwhelmed by it all. Was she to end up like this male’s father who couldn’t handle it all. She felt tears sliding down her cheeks they came unbidden and unwanted but she couldn’t stop them. “I don’t know what I’m going to do.” She didn’t want this and she had no one she could go to. It would take time to track down her friends and she couldn’t just leave her little ones. She looked at the male giving up her fears. What more could he do to her? Hurt more of her children. If she didn’t have help they may well all die and it would be her fault. “Help me please.”

"All you had to do was ask, Ma'am." Darrian said politely as he stood slowly, as to not scare the little blanket or the mare. "Can you walk? I understand flying is not an option right now, but if it is difficult to walk, we can go slowly. We shouldn't have any problems in this area. Is there anywhere you were trying to go? I can escort you anywhere you'd like." He offered her. He really did just want to help the mare, she seemed very sweet and good willed, but way to overwhelmed. Dar hoped he could help with this, the mare had obviously chosen to trust him, he only hoped he wouldn't let her down.

Maam? He seemed to be trying to be nice but at the same time it made Erumara feel so old. Erumara. Not maam. She nodded her head still feeling uncomfortable. Yes I should be able to. Standing up her legs felt stiff and painful after being still so long. Wincing she stretched them out. It was a good thing he said they could go slow because right now Erumara doubted she could run more than a dozen paces before falling flat on her belly. Shaking her head she answered his last question. I dont have a place to go. I have some friends but they tend to travel a lot and while we cross paths frequently we arent a herd per say.

Dipping his head, "Yes Ma-...Erumara." She had such a pretty name, Erumara, a pretty name for a pretty mare, he thought. Darrian turned side ways a little, indicating that they would still be traveling north. The poor mare looked disheveled, still pretty, but worn. "I can take you back to my home, if you'd like, I can make sure my siblings leave you, and your children alone. If you like humans, there are three that live there that might be able to help in some way. Or if you have a particular place that you feel comfortable in, where maybe you cross paths with your friends, I can take you there also. Just tell me where and I will get you there." His voice was quiet but strong, it was spoken plainly but Dar knew he was promising the mare. He would, with everything he had, make sure Erumara and her foals made it to a safe place where she would feel comfortable.

Sleep, food, safety. She supposed it didnt really matter where she was as long as she could rest without nightmares. "Your home would be fine." She was certain it would be closer than the common areas where Cala and Melda crossed paths. She wasnt sure how she felt about humans right now. She wasnt even certain how she felt about other Azrein. This male seemed so calm and so willing to help her. She had to admit a part of her was comforted by his actions and his willingness to follow any whim she had. Nudging her foals up she started toward the male hesitantly with her little ones hoping they would be able to make the trip without getting to tired. The filly that had wriggled toward him before was standing up for the first time and was trying to take a few wobbly steps back toward her mother. no little one not this way. She felt her heart fill with love at the sight of the filly doing so well, but a part of her wondered how long this respite would be.

Dar smiled, waiting for her and her children to get closer before he started off. He didn't want them to get too far behind him, he had to protect them and lead them. When he saw the little filly stand, her wobbly legs told him that it was the little one's first time to stand and walk. The love in Erumara's voice was clear and his own heart warmed at a mother's love as he was reminded of his own mother. Suddenly, he wondered if he was making her proud, I love you Momma, please help me to do the right thing for Erumara. Please help me to take care of her until she is well and for her to see I only wish to help He sent a little prayer up to his mother who he was sure was watching down on him.

From under his momma now, Elyan saw his sister stand for the first time! Maybe...just maybe...he could too! Wiggling closer to his sister, he put his front legs out straight, propping himself up as he had seen his sister do. Then, he wiggled his butt up into the air. He did it! He was standing! What he didn't know was, his legs were splayed and wobbly and he was quite the sight. Ely beamed up at his momma as if to say, 'Look momma! I can stand too!'

Darrian smiled at the little boy who was standing now, kind of haphazardly but still standing none the less. "Seems like your little ones are trying to make it easy on you." He said kindly.

Oh the little boy was precious. Oh yes. I think so. She smiled at Dar before beaming at her boy with love and pride. He looked like he was a quick learner and would be a strong colt. Youre doing so well, just be careful not to fall on anything sharp. She looked around and say a stick not to far away from them. Like that stick standing up over there. Dont fall on something like that or you could be hurt and I would be so very sad. She nudged her girls along and tried to keep and eye on her boy. They seemed to be moving along alright. She watched one of her girls fall down while trying to take a step. She giggled as the filly looked up at her with wide eyes like she never expected such a thing to happen.

Looking up at her mother Kalian was amazed how big everything was. Head swiveling she saw her brother standing up. Letting out a whuff she tried to get up again. It took a few tries but soon enough she was back up on her unsteady legs. This was so hard! Letting out a grunt she moved forward flapping her little wings trying to stay balanced. Somehow she managed not to end up on the ground again and was very proud of herself. There was another big one but it wasn’t mommy. Kalian started toward him.

Careful Darrian or she might just run you over. Erumara was trying not laugh at the sight of her little girl flapping and trying to walk. It was hilarious. Her little boy was doing so well to. She stayed close to her other daughter so she wouldnt fall behind.
