Rick never got into trouble for what he'd done to Before back in the caves. Mostly because Before never reported it to the Life Hunter. Even one more reason why Rick wasn't impressed with the Misty. "Can't even stand up for himself, maybe that's how he survived all those missions," Rick snickered.
When asked what happened, Before simply laughed it off and claimed he tripped and fell on a boulder. Lilah and the Life Hunter managed to assess his situation enough and deemed no broken bones. Maybe a bit of bruised ribs.
Granted, Rick did think he ought to ease up on the idiot. Before did save his life after all. Not that Rick would ever openly acknowledge it. And given how Before didn't seem the type to lord it over anyone, he was confident that his reputation of never needing others was intact. With that decision in mind, Rick was once again on patrol duty.
Coming round the corner, he found the other three trainees were engaged in a friendly spar and thought to himself, "This should be hilarious."

Lilah insisted her weapon wasn't meant for battling. Given that it used to be a mimic and was now a briefcase of sorts, Before went on to convince her that any blunt object can be used as a weapon. Unconventional forms aside.
"I mean, lookit mine, Vanna's not exactly something you'd think would be an awesome weapon but she totes is," Before grinned, gesturing to his wheel in a manner her namesake would have been proud of. "Now c'mon! Don't hold back! I won't even move," Before offered.
Lilah was too reluctant in her strike and missed by a wide mile. Much to her chagrin especially when coupled with Glen's snickers.

With a huff, Lilah turned on Glen and swung the case at him. Before winced at the loud, solid sound as the case smacked Glen hard upside the head.
"See? I told you you can totes use your weapon," Before grinned and gave her a thumb's up. "But uh, remember, I'm the target here?" he chuckled.
Glen rubbed the side of his head and glared at Lilah.

Before decided that this was probably the best time for him to step in and prevent a full-on brawl between Lilah and Glen. "Alright, alright, c'mon now! Keep your guard up, Lilah 'cuz here I come!" he declared as he charged forward.
Only he came skidding to a halt when the girl raised her hand, "You promise not to hold back on me? I mean, it's hard enough getting Glen here to take me seriously but pleeeeeeease do NOT tell me you'll go easy on me just because I'm, like, a rank lower than you. I wanna earn my fancy coat fair and square!"
"Like you and Rick did," Glen added quietly, staring at Before.
"Uh, s-sure? Iunno how exactly Rick got his coat but imma thinking it was through sheer dedication and hard work. He totes don't look or act like the type who'd let others help him out."
From his vantage point, Rick spotted the slight wince Before made at the mention of his name and grinned.
"But you and Rick aren't from the same batch?"
"Newp~ he woke up earlier than me. Totes why he's about to be promoted soon as Deus lets him get back," the Mist nodded, seemingly relieved at this, then suddenly slammed the wheel's broadside against Lilah.
"THE ********!?" She gasped, falling backwards and landing on her a**.
"Hey, you said I shouldn't go easy on you~" Before cackled and motioned for her to come at him.

The girl had to cluck her tongue, yeah she did say that, didn't she? Alright then, if that was how Before was going to play it, Lilah darted forward, aiming the case right at Before's shins because, well, why the ******** not? She would have even gone for a hair yank except Before's hair was rather short and she didn't know how that would have charged her partner anyway.
Glen continued to watch from the sidelines, sporadically cheering on either party whenever he felt like it.

Before took the blow in stride, hearing Vanna snort as if unimpressed (and she wasn't impressed by the way). The Mist mentally chided his bonded, telling her that he used to suck too! And might possibly still suck if he hadn't had such an awesome bonded and equally awesome friends helping him out and watching his back.
"You know, when you're in battle, it can help if, iunno you had someone to watch out for you~" Before idly announced, rubbing his shin and letting his teal eyes meet Glen's. He gave the Deather an encouraging smile, which Lilah narrowed her own eyes at.
"Oh no, do NOT think about it!" She warned, gripping the handle to her weapon even tighter.
"Glen's totes free to interpret it as he will~" Before laughed and was suddenly twirling Vanna by her circular handle, building up momentum as he brought the large weapon down.

Glen figured out what Before meant about the same time Lilah had. Actually, he figured it out a fraction of a second faster than Lilah had because he managed to position himself between the female trainee and the incoming wheel of doom.
"s**t," Glen squeaked, "You can really hit."
"Only 'cuz you ran right into it!" Before smirked, and was answered with a solid blow to his gut, courtesy of Glen. "G-good! Work together, you two! Those freaks don't play fair so neither should we!" he coughed.

Despite her annoyance that Glen thought she needed defending, Lilah managed to sneak up on Before and attempt to whack him with her weapon.

The light strike from behind had Before whirling around, and Lilah had the unfortunate situation to be at the right angle and the right distance that left her in Before's optimal striking range.
Rick's eyes widened in disbelief at just how well Before was able to fend for himself. He shook his head, reminding himself that Before was up against two newly awakened trainees, of course he'd be able to fend for himself. He'd ******** BETTER, come to think of it.

The solid mass of the wheel hit Lilah hard. From the way Before was swinging his weapon around, she never thought it would hurt so much. As she went sailing, the briefcase opened, releasing the charge she'd stored up. The energy shone onto Glen, long enough that a barrier shimmered around him, and the next thing Lilah knew, she was eating grass and dirt.

Glen felt the FEAR barrier encase him, but thankfully not negate his own movement. Still, he couldn't help but turn towards the direction Lilah's body went sprawling. And with his attention diverted, his next swing just barely nicked Before.

Before saw the shield form as clearly as Rick had, but instead of holding back and attacking Lilah, the Misty opted not to let the basic trainee's charge go to waste.
Brace yourself, Vanna, Before mentally instructed, intending to maintain his target and strike Glen. His bonded only rolled her eyes but what else could she do?

When Before's weapon connected with the barrier she raised, Lilah charged in from behind, swinging her case until she felt it hit something solid. Particularly the back of Before's knee.

Glen had a plan forming in the back of his head, he didn't want Before's full attention on him, which was why his next strike was intended to charge his weapon rather than deal any major damage to his opponent's FEAR shield.
Rick, on the other hand, was getting annoyed and bored at the display he was watching.
