Peeling back the bandage Venice welcomed the audible gasps of revulsion and mock vomiting as the girls she knew well crowded around her. Grinning she eyed each and everyone of her audience as she wrapped the bandage around her hand to reveal the true extent of show and tell. Her thigh was a water painting of purples, yellows and sometimes even greens with a gash the size of a small asteroid weeping out at them. The blood had long since dried but the overall affect was still what she wanted for her girls to witness. The cruel lesson for not having your head in the game.
“That –“ she motioned to the unhappy looking wound. “ - will probably leave one hell of a mark…and its all because I didn’t keep my eye on Sally when she came round the corner on the fifth turn. That Hungarian blocker with the steroid addiction, you know the one, Ugg I like to call her, well she took her chance and not only wiped me out but took Sally in the process.” Venice peered over at Sally who grimaced back apologetic; she was now the proud owner of one rather shiny black eye.
“If Sally had been watching the Blockers and not concentrating on Raquel taking that dive we would have been fine.” Small mutterings of agreement rippled through the small crowd as Venice returned to winding her leg back up. “She was more concerned for her team mate than the game, and doing so cost us the game. We can all slap each others arses in the shower and flower each other with kisses in are own time but not on track. If a team mate falls let her. She is tough, we are all tough.” Her eyes found Sally’s again, the familiar expression of defeat and guilt reflected in her eyes caused Venice to bite her tongue. She hated making someone feel awful like that but she was the captain, she needed them to know. “All you have to worry about is doing your job, your role. That’s what you’re here for, that’s why I chose you. You are Destiny City best and I want to keep us that way, not to have to take time of from training while our wounds heal from attacks we could have avoided. Bide you time girls and next time that opponent comes round you elbow them in the teeth, got it!?”
A loud roar of “Hell Yeah’s” shouted back as Venice finished her speech with a twisting knot on the bandage and a slap on the back to her nearest comrade. She blew a kiss towards Sally who smiled knowing she was forgiven and quickly dispersed with the others, some leaving to go back on the track while others took a well deserved break out into the night, the giant warehouse doors open for anyone to enter. It was creeping towards 8pm and this industrial sanctuary was theirs for the night. The roller rink had been set up to accommodate the Destiny City Devils in training for their next big match. The attempt to bring fresh blood into the team was still ongoing and although they had gained Porsha they still lacked the mean punch they needed.
Breaking out a smoke Venice limped onto a nearby crate and swung her leg back and forth as if the mere movement didn’t cause her teeth to rattle. She needed to show, even on a sub conscious level, that these bruises and scratches didn’t hurt. If she made a fuss about them now no one would ever want to play roller derby again. Including herself.

It wasn't intentionally that Anella was lingering so late; one thing lead to another, and suddenly she was wandering around dark warehouses while she had the chance and then—bam, there she was. Her adrenaline was still pumping from earlier, and perhaps she was looking for some sort of human interaction to still work her off of that high. The sound of something shuffling was a fair cause for investigation, and Anella, a source of great confidence and curiosity, was certainly one to investigate.
She peered around the corner, expecting some nefarious drug deal to be going down—or perhaps just some stupid cat messing in the garbage—but found herself pleasantly surprsed to find a fairly normal looking, very slightly familiar girl.
Anella might not have known her personally, but she could recognize her from the derby. "Oh, hey," she greeted, seeming fairly impressed with how well the girl was composing herself despite the obvious injuries she had received. "You sure know how to take a beating," she said, sounding impressed. "Are all matches that rough or was this one just an exception?"

The sound of a friendly strangers voice was enough to make Venice forget her injuries and perk up, it was forgotten even more so when her own ditchwater eyes settled on enchanting emerald ones and she breathed out the smoke a little too quickly than she meant too. Taking in her curling brown locks and slim figure Venice’s eyes danced happily as she grinned her macho smile, her hand wafting away the comments on her wound as she stroked the fraying bandage with the other. Composure was the key here and she tried to claw it back vigurisly. That and her failing dignity.
“Heh, no not every match is that bad, but us girls, we do like it rough from time to time.” She laughed a little as she flicked her cigarette into the shadows. She was trying not to smoke as much in front of others who weren’t. Once upon a time she didn’t care but now and again a pretty face could remind her she did have manners and she better use them.
“You watched the match then? You a derby girl yourself or do you just like watching us kick a**?” She tried not to think upon the fact that she was sat here and not training because they had had their assess kicked in the last game. But hopefully the stunning stranger wouldn’t concentrate on that part too much. "The names Venice, Derby Captain and resident molester of pretty young things like yourself. Make yourself at home." She purred the last statment but it was all meant in jest, yes she did auctally have that title but no she didn't make it gospal to get herself arrested everyday for incdecent behavior.

"Molest?" Anella inquired, and while she figured it was a joke, you couldn't be too careful when in dark alleyways with strangers. Still, Venice was a girl, so like—what was the harm? "Yeah, right. I'm sure a girl like you doesn't have to commit a misdemeanor to get a little action."
She approached, flopping down on a nearby crate as she stretched out. "Nice to meet you, Venice. Fancy title you've got. I'm Anella, and I can safely say that I am not a derby girl, but that was one hell of a match. A friend dragged me out, it was the first one I've ever seen. She ended up ditching to go make out with her man though, but whatever. I still enjoyed watching you guys. Kinda like on rugby, but on wheels."
…Well, there was a hell of a lot different from that match than there was in a game of rugby, but they had bruises, blood and babes, all the same.
"I might have to come back again for the next round. You guys were killer out there—it really got my blood pumping to see you all kicking so much a**."
…Even if they had lost this match, it didn't mean she didn't still get worked up. She'd cheered for them from the very beginning, so it was disappointing that they hadn't one—but at least they'd put up a damn good fight and put on a damn good show!

Venice couldn’t help but stifle an internal grimace as the girl commented on the molest joke. Did she really want to be alone forever? Could she never just start a conversation with “Hello, how are you”? Did it always have to end with her being placed on a register?
Oh well too late now.
“You’d be surprised” She murmured to the first comment as she listed to the girls explanation upon being there that night. She nodded knowingly as she mentioned the excitement roller derby could cause and felt a well of pride settle in her stomach. Her girls really did kick a** didn’t they. Her eyebrows did raise a little when she heard the comment about rugby though and through gritted teeth of not staring too closely at this persons body, she leaned back with a wince.
“Aww thank you, it wasn’t our best night but we learned some lessons. Its all about growing in this game, adapting to your opponent, head butting them when no one is looking, that sort of thing. I promise we will be better next time” Dangling her legs she gave another side glance at the girl sat beside her. She seemed to polished to be into rugby any other way than as a spectator but if she was willing to come see a derby match she had to have a wild streak in her somewhere. And Venice was only to keen to root it out.
“Rugby on wheels huh? Ha-ha actually I like that, might even make it our slogan! And what prey tell does a pretty thing like you know about Rugby? Don’t tell me you play? I can’t imagine you covered in mud while tackling another girl…oh no, wait….yes I can.” She grinned wolfishly and tensed slightly. Normally that sort of comment got her a slap around the head from closer friends.

Anella couldn't help but laugh, and it wasn't long after that a coy smile drifted onto her place. "Of course I play! Don't tell me it wasn't obvious?" she challenged playfully. "I've been playing for years now! And it's not all about tackling other girls in mud puddles. There's plenty of elbowing, kicking, headbutting—even groping. It might be dirty, but I'd like to think we clean up nicely off the field."
She seemed rather pleased with herself as she continued, "We haven't had a game in a bit, though. Waaaaay back when, I used to captain for a team. But, I took a nasty blow and had to pull myself off the field for a while."
Though she sounded a bit disappointed, she then continued, "I made it to ever game! The girls did so good. We were small, but damn, we were good. Broke up just before college. Sometimes we all go out for a drink, now, but I'm rolling with a different crowd for the time being. What with midterms and all, we haven't had a game for a bit, but I'm hoping soon. I miss the adrenaline rush. Plus, my life's been too clean without all that mud 'n' blood."
Even just talking about rugby was enough to make Anella beam; she'd gotten a kick out of the roller derby match, and with her blood pumping as it had been then, it was all she could do to remember the sport she loved so much.

Venice knew she liked this girl for a reason. Tough, pretty and knew how to headbutt.. A wickidly perfect combination. And watching the girls eyes like up with glee when talking about Rugby was just too cute.
“Ha, I can see why I would have a hard time trying to convince you that Roller derby is the better game! Maybe I can take you out for a midnight training session sometime? Get you to change your mind?” She let out another devilish smile as she secretly congratulated herself on what a smooth operator she was. Not that it got her anywhere. Ever. Listening intently she nodded thoughtfully as she gathered little bit of information about the stranger, hoping that she could at least keep her interested in talking for a little longer.
“You go to college then? Which year? Am an ex- Sovereign Heights girl myself. Find I have too much on my plate without adding homework to it as well.” It was safe to say Venice could admit to that without reveling her secret life. How was one to find the time to get absolutly rat-arsed on vodka when she had her job, roller derby, and her art to keep her busy. Not to mention the many failing attempts at getting a date.
and oh yeah, trying to save the world.

Convince her that Roller Derby was the better game? Yeah, right. Anella was a Rugby girl, through and through—but, still. It was a pretty enticing offer. "Well. I'm pretty open to trying new things. I don't think I'd mind you at least trying to win me over." She paused. "Into Roller Derby, I mean," she clarified, perhaps a bit hastily.
She cleared her throat, sat up straight, and smoothed her hair over her should before jumping into the latter part of Venice's questions. "—I got to DCU right now. I'm close to graduating. I'm on my last semester and so far, so good."
If things kept up as they were—provided some Negaverser-slash-DMC—she'd be graduated and on her way to building up a career. As soon as she figured out just exactly what career that was.

Venice nearly snorted aloud at the quick adjustment to Anella sentence. Although she was always going to be a flirt first, making people feel awkward came a close dam second and watching the new girl wince slightly under the continuing innuendos had the derby girl fighting to hold her tongue.
“Well am glad to hear it gorgeous! Me and you were going to have so much fun!” She nudged her jokingly with her elbow, hoping to use the action as a buffer to at least get across that she was all bark and no bite….unless Anella wanted her to bite which she was totally up for.
“DCU? Yeah I have a few of my girls going there. I’ve already been to college back in England and thinking of doing another few years in University would have been soul crippling. I only joined Sovereign because of their art course and student exchange programme. I just decided to stay after it ended, you know settle down, meet a pretty girl, have thousands of babies. You know the usual.”
She failed to mention her part time job of beating the crap out of Negaverse agents for the main reason why she had never returned home but right now Anella didn’t need to know that. Maybe after the first hundred babies or so.

"Thousands of babies?" Anella asked, unable to resist snickering. "That sounds like a handful. But I wouldn't mind a house full of them!" she brightened—too pleased to bother trying to correct Venice on the mechanics of girl-girl relationships and the difficulty of producing thousands of babies together.
"I want babies," she couldn't help but coo, pinching the air as if she would a baby's cheek. "But—only when I find the right person to settle down with, you know. —You're from England?" she asked, just as eager about England as she was about babies. "—Where? I lived there for a few years, back when I was younger. In a cute little place that I'd go back to if America wasn't so fun. Well. That, and I'm still in school, and dad's so fond of it here," she shrugged, though couldn't keep the smile off her face. She was interested in conversation before, but rugby, babies and England? Well, hell—it just couldn't get any better!

Venice raised an eyebrow in surprise before allowing her wolfish grin to spread across her face. This girl was a keeper! Although she had never been one for babies before coming to Destiny City her world’s view had changed with the constant threat of being maimed to death by a loose Youma. It made her appreciate the little things, the summer sun, a child’s laugh plus her biological clock was kicking her in the kidneys to get a move on. Not that she was thinking of it any time soon though! This girl needed to try so many more alcoholic beverages before that happened! “Heh, I bet you would make a fantastic mom, me…well I’ve been advised to not look after animals let alone another human being. I want them but I think social services would have to step in!” Only jokingly her eyes glazed over as if staring into a terrible memory. “So many hilarious accidents.”
Blinking out of it she trailed a finger across her bandage as she thought about her old home. She had loved England but no matter how much she missed it she couldn’t go back, and that broke her heart. To see someone else having enjoyed it too was humbling. “Raised in York, I wasn’t born there though, as you can tell by my ridiculous name I was born in Italy. My parents were both massive closet hippies. Named my sister Sydney and my little brother Milton Keynes after their, ahem, placed of conception. Uhh, still creeps me out thinking about it.” She shivered for added affect before pulling out her cigarette packet. With a wince she remembered she had to ask the girl if it was ok. Remember Venice, manners!
“Sorry…horrible bad habit or that’s what people tell me. Personally I love it but I can go stand over there if you want? I wouldn’t mind knowing where you lived in England though, maybe I know it? Where were you born? Here? Do you live with your folks now?” God she felt like such a high school nerd asking all these silly questions. She couldn’t help it, she was interested. Although it was hardly a compliment when Venice would go after anything with a pulse.

"Hm?" Anella blinked, eyeing the packet of cigarettes before he hastily held up a hand. "No, no—by all means, go ahead. I don't mind." She might not have smoked, herself, but she wasn't going to prevent someone else from enjoying their Nicotine high. Naturally, she was still giddy about being told she'd make a fantastic mother, though a part of her still held many doubts. Particularly since she wasn't sure children could survive off of microwaveable meals and candy bars.
Brushing aside Venice's request to smoke, she wasted little time in answering the questions she'd been presented with. "I was born here, in Georgia. I don't remember much of it, but I remember the flight over to England. I was with Dad," she explained. "Mom got sick and didn't make it, and he couldn't really stand to be in the area. So we moved to England—Wiltshire—to be closer to her family since he wanted me to know where I came from. Buuuut," Anella shrugged, leaving out a fair few details as she summarized, "The family kinda started moving all around, and Grammy lost her fight to cancer and then there wasn't much of a reason to stay. So, we moved back here when dad got a pretty good business offer. We live apart, but he's somewhere over there in the mountains. I like city life too much to give it up, but he likes the peace and quiet and being surrounded by nature."
Anella really wasn't the shy sort; she didn't have a problem laying out her family history, and she was fairly honest and open about most things. Where she lived and why she moved wasn't exactly the most personal aspect of her life, and she really never mined reminiscing. She'd had a good life so far, and even death hadn't massively hindered her outlook of it. She was still always looking for new life experiences—and where better to find them than in a dark alley after a brutal roller derby match?

A sigh of relief played on the girl’s lips before she greedily lit her cigarette and inhaled. Was there truly anything better than this? Well there was but nothing a PG-13 mind wasn’t banned to think off. Listening again Venice nodded and smiled and did everything a good listener should without breaking her gaze over the brunette. It was so nice to hear someone chatting so freely with her. She either put them off completely and they ran a mile or they were just like her and, well…talking didn’t happen much.
The mention of Anella’s mum brought a piecing memory of her own to surface and Venice tried to school her face to show concern and support. It wasn’t like her fathers passing was recent but she just felt s**t for anyone who had to go though something similar as a kid, angry even. Venice could only assume this event had happened a few years ago for Anella and she was over the raw pain a death could cause. But still, it ******** sucked.
“Sorry to hear about your mum and your gran. s**t, remind me to bring tissues next time I meet up with you! It’s a serious sob fest up in here…but I guess I can’t be too sad, it did bring you to DeeCee after all.“ Was that really a compliment? Venice wasn’t sure as she hastily took another drag, her hand wafting away the stray smoke trails that had started to make their way towards Anella.
“You sure I can’t convince you to join my team? It seems your destined to be here, unless you enjoy taking the scary back alleys late at night?”

Anella couldn't help but offer a laugh at Venice's attempt at condolence. She waved her hand nonchalantly; the incident hadn't left her particularly scarred, and while she had her moments of darkness in the matter, she hadn't let it weigh her down. She'd had so many life experiences that she might not have had, and perhaps with youth, she hadn't been able to fully process all that she'd lost when it happened.
"Well. I do enjoy these scary back alleyways a bit," she said lightly, grin planted on her face. "But—Destiny? Sure, I'll bite."
And how could she not? In a place called Destiny City, how much could be chance?
"I mean, I don't know the first thing about Roller Derby, and probably should pop on a pair of skates before I get too invested, but—I mean, if you're trying really hard, you could probably convince me. Of course, you should probably see me on blades before you get too invested in the idea," she laughed.

Venice felt an internal squeal coming on as Anella uttered the words she had always loved to hear from smoking hot girls. The possibility of joining her team, to don skimpy shorts and skirts and become a bruised goddess on the track. She jumped up and down and tried to muffle a little “yay” before attempting to gain back her cool compose which failed as she dropped her cigarette in the process.
“Eiii! You will not regret this! I will train you up! All you need is balance and a few midnight sessions with me practicing and you will be skating with your eyes closed! Am not going to lie, your a** will hurt with the amount of times you will fall but it is totally worth it. And anyway I will be there to rub it better its uhhh-oh, a special treat to all new recruits, just started it right now, completely mandatory.”
She rubbed her hands together in joking glee and almost let out a wicked cackle but there were limits to how creepy she could be to strangers. Before she ordered Anella to allow her to perform a test run she clapped her hands together before telling her to wait. Running back to the warehouse she was gone all of 5 seconds before she came running back with several pairs of black skates tucked to her chest and grinning like a fool.
“Can’t have you practising without a pair of these babies. Its way too expensive for you to buy your own if you can’t stick with it and we buy in extras all the time in case people forget their own. I promise they are totally clean and gross free.” She looked inside the boots trying to pair up the sizes and plonking them on the crates. She had no idea what size Anella would be so she picked everything up from a size 5 to a 10.
