History
Theme Song: For the King
-*-
Tonight Tonight
Arthur Pendragon was prophesized to be the great King that would unite all of Britain and its colonies together during a great time of war. His mother Igraine was married to Gorlois, Duke of Cornwall at the time, but was seduced by King Uther. Gorlois issued a decree of war against Uther and Cornwall soon fell to the wrath of Brittany. Gorlois was killed and Uther took Igraine as his wife.

For many years Arthur was raised as a Duke’s son, being as he was conceived before the marriage between Igraine and his father had occurred. Upon his father’s death, Arthur was sent to the Isle of Avalon and took the ancient trial of the Horned One. He slew a deer and took his place as the King Stag of Brittany, and slept with the Summer Maiden, giving him the support of the Druids. The Church also crowned him King in the Christian fashion, and so Arthur held the two most powerful religions in his hands.

As time progressed he married Guinevere. The golden age of Camelot was born. All soon fell into chaos when Mordred came to Camelot. It would appear that Morgaine, Arthur’s half-sister, had been the Summer Maiden at his ceremony. She had become with child and left Avalon to live with her aunt Morgause. All of this had been planned by Viviane and the Isle of Avalon. Mordred was raised by Morgause and Morgaine had forsaken her life as a Priestess of Avalon.

Mordred knew not his father, though Morgaine did. Upon his arrival to Camelot, he fought Sir Lancelot and became one of Arthur’s knights. It would seem the entire act was a ploy to kill Arthur. As the High King sought to bring Christianity to Britain, the Druids forgotten, Mordred was sent to kill him.

Arthur discovered Guinevere’s treachery the night before his death. She had been having an affair with Lancelot, and still was unable to bear a child. Desolate, Arthur had fled to the Lake of Avalon where Mordred found him. The two fought, Mordred slew his father, but Arthur too took down his son. Or so he thought

Arthur awoke in Avalon, Viviane at his side. Morgaine had saved him, having healed him on the lakebed. Mordred had not been found. He was now immortal; Viviane had Gifted him as he lay in a comatose state. Arthur saw the wrongs of his ways, but did not return to Britain. It was a new time in that land, and he could only watch his kingdom fade away over the years.

As the years past Arthur found himself enjoying the newfound life of the age. His favorite decades were the fifties and sixties, and he oftened visited Earth and the mortals of that time. His life on Avalon was spent in training and a calm, until Lilith once more walked the Earth.
Setsuna came to him with his cousin Gawaine, now known as Gareth. Arthur allowed them passage to the Druid’s Well where she completed her Enmortal change. He remained behind to guard Avalon lest Lilith come there next.

During the year that followed Lilith's fall Arthur came to Earth more often. His current task was to train the new Enmortal Setsuna, as her Twin could not. The King found himself not only enjoying her presence, but actually falling for the young woman. He approaches this with wariness, the last women left him forever scarred. But it does not stop him from occasionally reaching out in a more than friends manner at times.

Tension now circles in his life as the war in the Paranormal world reaches the mortal realm, where he must prevent the destruction of the human race. For lack of many options he has decided to work with the Revenant, but tends only to go to meetings if Setsuna is there. Otherwise it is up to his cousin Sahara to update him. Arthur is simply trying to get things done without loosing himself in the process.

The Once King
Mirror
Two thousand years ago a High King ruled over all of Britain. From Gaul, the land of the Celts, and the fallen Empire of Rome, the empire of Britain spanned. A story of romance, intrigue, and mystery follows this Once King. The legend has long since been told of the great Arthur Pendragon and his time on this Earth. Yet once again, as it is often seen, legend has been proven false.

Tintagel kingdom was home to the Lady Igraine of Avalon and Duke Gorlois with their daughter Morgaine. Turmoil was growing in the land of the Legions as the Emperor began to fade to the land of the dead. It was a time of danger from the threatening Scots, but Viviane of Avalon and the Merlin of the age prophesized a king to come who would soothe all wounds scarring the land, a king of the line of Avalon. The announcement was given to Igraine one cold night as Gorlois fought under the Eagle of Rome in Britanny. She would bear this king. It would not be Gorlois’s child.

The prophecy became reality when Igraine met Uther Pendragon. A bond was forged, that which bound not bodies but souls of those who had met in lifetimes past. Through deceit and battle Igraine and Uther were bound, Gorlois killed, and Arthur Pendragon born.

Raised as the son of Gorlois, Arthur was forever in danger from his Aunt Morgause and under the wing of Viviane. His mother lived with Uther, always seeking the High King’s eye, while Morgaine looked after him. In his youth the Merlin and a Bishop of Christianity taught Arthur of the world and its powers, mysteries, secrets. It was not until Morgaine was sent away to Avalon and Arthur’s father fell into the world of the dead that the kingdom needed an heir.

In that age, the cultures of the world were clashing. Druids and Christians fought for power. Uther had struggled with this. But in order for Arthur to have Britain, he needed the Druids and Avalon. And so they set him to the task of becoming King Stag. The trial began on Dragon Isle, and Arthur slew the King Stag, taking his place as keeper of the land and sworn friend of the Druids. It was that evening that his life became far more complicated. The Summer Maiden fell into his bed as was custom. It was unknown to both he and the Maiden that Viviane had connived this so that the heir to Avalon would be born from two royal lines. Worse, it was unknown that the Summer Maiden was Arthur’s sister Morgaine.

Arthur returned to Britain and claimed his throne, the kings of the divided kingdoms vowing their allegiance to him under Excalibur, the blade of the Druid Regalia. For years he served under the consul of both Christian and Druid priests and Britain flourished. The High King Triumphed over the Saxons and Gauls and united his people.

Without his knowledge a son was born. Mordred of Avalon was sent away to Morgause’s kingdom, Morgaine kept the secret of his birth. In that same year Guinevere, daughter of King Leodegranz was given to Arthur for a bride. The Merlin prophesized she would bear him no heir. The Christian Priest said otherwise. The division began as Arthur married Guinevere.

Over the years Arthur left the Druid religion. Morgaine fought for her people, but Guinevere had Arthur under her thumb in the same moment she did his best friend Lancelot. The Druid’s were cast out from Britain and hunted. Arthur turned his back on the family he once loved and did not stop the Christians from burning the Druid’s at the stake.

Away in the land of Orkney with Morgause, Mordred grew. Avalon called to him, and ordered him to kill Arthur, the King who had destroyed the land that had once been the home of Druids. Mordred went to court and met with Arthur. The suspicion of his birth did not set in until Morgaine returned as well, under the pretense of peace. It was in tears that she told Arthur of Mordred’s origins. The King’s guilt set in. Instead of turning to Avalon, he went to the church and prayed. Behind his back Guinevere was desperate, seeking a way to bear a child. She turned to Lancelot and the true troubles began.

Less than a year later Arthur found them together in bed, Lancelot’s guilt and Guinevere’s chagrin clear. The King turned from the scene and headed towards the lake outside Camelot. Mordred met him there, the blade Clarent drawn. Excalibur met the weapon head on and a battle ensued. Mordred’s blade struck first, but Arthur made his own mark. The two fell to the lake bed, their blood seeping into the stones.

He awoke on Avalon, immortal. His life had been given, and Viviane could not leave him in the land of the dead. The High King rose to see his kingdom falling and Lancelot with Guinevere on Avalon with the rest of his companions. Viviane explained their new role in the world as Guardians. They could do nothing for Britain anymore. The High King had become the Once King.

For years Arthur sought to amend his struggle with the Druids and make good on his promise to serve them. The guilt was ravaging him, though Morgaine often soothed the pain. But as the centuries passed he found himself needing release. Arthur knew what it was like to look at himself and see only a failure. It was time for a new chapter.

Imagine that chapter beginning in the fifties and sixties era of the last century. Woodstock had been the final key in finding himself, or so Arthur said. Release had been found, but at times, it still seems all too much. He found himself always among the rebels of the era, enjoying and admiring their dauntless nature.

Lilith’s rampage on the world changed things. Arthur was still seeking to fill a void, but suddenly, remarkably, it was stoppered if only for a moment. Setsuna Jackson came to Avalon with Arthur’s cousin and companion Gareth. He led them to the Druid’s Well at Camelot and sent her on her quest. She returned and aided in the destruction of Lilith.

In the days following Arthur turned to Set and offered his aid to help her hone the new powers she now had as an Enmortal. Over the weeks the two forged a friendship, but at times Arthur wished for more. Arthur finally opened his mouth and the two started seeing each other on a regular, though not technically 'dating' basis. It took another month or so before Arthur was able to ask Setsuna to go steady, but seeing as she didn't say no...well thing's have started looking to be in the Once King's favor.

It's a nice change.
