It had been a pretty dull day so far. Nothing at all seemed to be happening anywhere! Their Mother had gone off hunting, leaving them under the care of a strangely strict lioness who went by the name of Izzy. He could tell most of the other cubs didn't care for her, but Emrys really approved of her no nonsense lifestyle. She was sweet, with just enough force to let you know you were in the wrong.

Today Izzy was in the corner of the den, with her head lying on her paws, her eyes scanning the cubs for signs of trouble. But no one seemed to want to cause trouble today, which left Izzy pretty bored. It was kind of boring to not hear her fussy tone, especially when it was his brothers and sister's being fussed at. But it was also peaceful.

Emrys climbed up to his paws and wobbled around the den, his tender paws aching as he trotted over to his brothers and sisters. They were all over the place, so it was sort of hard to choose who he wanted to hang with. It seemed the girls were all in one corner delicately playing with some strange looking bug. While the boys were all spread out doing their own things.

The decision was going to be a rough one, just like every other decision he'd had to make in his life. He hated making them, it drove him a little more crazy with each new decision he made. Perhaps, if he just sat around a bit longer, one of his brothers would approach him?

Briac all but glared at Izzy, dark green eyes narrowed in what could only be described as hatred. He despised nannies. He really did. They weren't Mama and they weren't Papa. It wasn't fair. Briac hated when his parents were gone. And when they were around, looking after him and his siblings, he never really got all the attention he wanted. It was because he had too many brothers and sisters. If they had a smaller family, like some of the other litters, Briac could get all the attention he wanted.
But today, he was getting no attention at all, putting him a right foul mood. Not only was he angry, he was also bored. His sisters were playing with some kind of bug over in the corner of the den. Lame. Briac played with hoppers all the type. They weren't any fun unless you were chasing them outside in the grass. But Izzy, Briac thought, sparing a moment to glare at the older lioness again, said they had to stay in the den.
Huffing a sigh of boredom, Briac looked around at his brothers, noticing that Emrys was doing the same. Crouching low with his rump up in the air, Briac creeped up behind the silver cub, bronze tail flicking back and forth as he stalked. He was getting rather good at stalking. He wasn't much of a chaser, often letting hoppers escape if they jumped too far away, but stalking he was a pro at. The black cub pounced, dark paws reaching for his brother's tail, tiny claws outstretched and ready to pin the appendage down.

His attention had since ventured off to the bug-chasing event. Leaving Emrys completely unknowing to his brother's spectacular stalking skills. His sister's were much more entertaining. Apparently the bug had spit something at them and now they were all whiny and revenge fueled. Which in all honesty as pretty hilarious! He couldn't help but chuckle as they tried to tackle it, but also backed away from its potentially smelly spray.

As he sat there watching, he felt something sharp pin into his tail and he turned around with a slight yelp, only to see the culprit was none other than Briac. Man! He always did that! It was like he was a ninja or something, and poor Emrys NEVER saw it coming.

As the pinch in his tail eased to a dull pain, Emrys let out a chuckle at his brother and pushed him lightly on the shoulder. "You got me again, man Briac you're gonna be a great hunter one day!" He smiled, though inside he was a little hurt. Emrys had so far been unable to pick up on the idea of 'stealth' he was too clumsy and always seemed to be a target for some sort of noise. Unlike his brother who excelled in all of the things Emrys failed at.

"I wish I could stalk as well as you. Maybe then the girls would let me join in their bug hunting game." Emrys flicked his tail towards the small group and frowned a bit. "But I guess having you as company isn't so bad either. I get to study your technique!"

Briac laughed and stumbled a bit as his brother pushed him. He supposed he was pretty great at stalking. But being a hunter, having to chase down everything he stalked, seemed rather dull. He would much rather do something more fun and exciting! "Hunters are boring. I wanna fight hyenas!" He announced with a playful growl, pouncing on top of an imaginary one. "They would be much more fun to stalk." That way Briac would actually be able to fight the things he stalked. Maybe even save the entire pride from an invasion! Or infiltrate their ranks in the night and take them all out! He sighed dreamily, letting his invisible prisoner go. "But if you really wanna learn, maybe I can help you stalk better?" Mama or Papa would be better teachers, but they weren't here. And Briac wanted nothing to do with Izzy, including asking her for stalking tips. What would a nanny know anyways?

Emrys offered his brother a condescending glare. He knew hyena's were off limits, even in his dreams! If Mom ever heard him whispering about such things, she'd have his hide! She was way too overprotective of them, sometimes it bordered on smothering them.

"I don't think you should aim so dangerously Briac. Maybe pick something a little more Mom-friendly?" He offered his brother a small smile, one to let him know he wasn't all serious - but he was, a little serious.

It took a moment for his words to clear the air, but when they did Emrys forgot all about his brother's hyena dreams. "Wait - you actually want to teach me?" Skeptically he eyed his brother once more, there was no malice in his face. But for his brother to so willingly offer to take his clumsy bottom for a lesson? Well.. unusual wasn't quite the right word.

Briac snorted at his brother's words. Mom-friendly? Ha! When the hyenas invaded and Briac saved the entire pride, their mother wouldn't have any problem with him fighting the mangy, flea-bitten turds. Maybe he could go find one and bring it back as a prisoner, just to prove to his mother that he was strong enough. Briac was positive that he could do it. Granted, he had never seen a hyena in real life. But how scary could they be? With their big mouths and evil eyes and sharp teeth and...oh...maybe he should switch to something mom-friendly before he gave himself nightmares. Like bugs! Bugs needed vanquishing just as much as hyenas, right? Yeah! He could practice on bugs until he was big and strong like Papa. You couldn't be afraid of something smaller than you. He would just have to hope that any hyena attacks could wait until he was older.
"Well of course I'll teach you, silly! We're gonna need all the stalkers we can get when the hyenas come back and invade the pridelands." Briac replied, chastising Emrys for not thinking these things through. Honestly! "Unless you're too scared." The cub teased, smiling wickedly.

Of course his brother would laugh at his comments, that was Briac alright. He had little fear, and well sometimes he could be a bit um .. big-headed. Of course, he would never be the one to tell his brother that. But he had a feeling one day a girl would tell him exactly what was on Emrys' mind right now. To avoid that feeling of being left out of the joke, Emrys let out a few small timid giggles. They were his trademark, a small whispery laugh that hardly made it to the ears of his company.

His brother's words nearly scared the fur off his body, and Emrys jumped back, tripping on his own tail. Luckily for him, he caught himself and was able to play it off as a rush of excitement. "I dunno if i'm as pleased as you are at the idea of a surprise attack ... but YAY! PRACTICE!" The cub pulled himself to his paws and pranced around his brother, typical of the mannerisms his sister's would use. He didn't care how it looked to his brother, he was excited, and well he'd only ever inspected his sister's bouts of excitement, so how was he supposed to know how a boy would respond?

"WAIT! YOU THINK I'M SCARED?!"

This time Emrys forced himself to let out a loud grunty laugh. "I LAUGH IN THE FACE OF FEAR!" Again he forced a loud laugh and plopped down beside his brother.

"So what are we going to do now Briac?"

Briac laughed with his brother as the silver cub pranced around him, delighted that Emrys was finally showing some excitement. But the cub did pose an important question. What were they going to do now? They needed some way to practice stalking. A bug would work the best, but his sisters had claimed the one they were messing with, and were sure to complain if he and Emrys tried to take it. The cub searched the walls of the den, green eyes narrowed.
A small movement caught his eye. There, in the corner of the den, was a spider. That would work well enough. The cub slowly padded over to the tiny creature, motioning for his brother to follow him. "We're gonna practice with this bug! It's not as fun as a hopper, but they're for more advanced stalkers anyways." Briac stated seriously. "All you gotta do is creep up and catch it with your paws! It's pretty tiny though, so you'll have to aim very carefully."

Emrys watched with wide eyes and perky ears as his brother crept up on the spider. When he realized why his brother was creeping up on it, the poor cub got the shivers. Ugh! A spider! Briac couldn't have chosen something less creepy to stalk? Spiders gave him nightmares - really bad ones too! But he couldn't show signs of weakness in front of Briac, otherwise his brother might turn the tables and begin teasing him. Gulping down his fears, he simply nodded at his brother trying his best to hold back his trembling fear.

"OK, so I have to sneak up on it ..." Looking around him, there didn't seem to be any obstacles in his way. It was far less likely that he would trip over something that way. But then, he'd found some pretty interesting ways to trip before so .... "What happens if I miss? Won't it run away?" Frantic for an answer the cub swiped around at his brother once more. This time his tail brushed swiftly past the spider, effectively scaring it away. But having his back now turned to the empty corner, he had no way of knowing that.

Briac scoffed at his brother's apprehension. Emrys really needed to calm down! Stalking wasn't even that hard. Jeez. The black cub was willing to bet that everyone else in the pride knew how to do it. Even his sisters were getting the hang of it. Briac wasn't going to be that one cub whose brother didn't even know how to stalk. That would be embarrassing. Briac would never be able to show his face out in public again. "C'mon, Emrys! It's a spider. They move at the speed of totally slow. As long as you move faster than that, you'll be able to catch it." He explained with exasperation. Didn't Emrys know anything? It was almost like he had just been born a day or two ago. Briac really needed to get him out of the den more often.
"Now let's go, slow poke! We're wasting precious stalking time! If you don't get a move on now, we won't get any practice in before Izzy," Briac hissed, green eyes narrowing as he glanced at the nanny from out of the corner of his eye, "Makes us take a nap."

Emrys nodded in acceptance at his brother's words. He knew them to be right, but he just couldn't help but doubt himself. He'd never been good at anything, what made Briac think this was going to be an exception to that rule? Sighing he rolled his eyes at his brother's over dramatization of Izzy.

"Naps aren't all that Briac! When you go to sleep you get to be whatever you want, and you don't have to worry about failing!" Staring matter of factly at his brother he nodded his head before turning back to where he had left the spider, only to see a blank space. Absolutely no traces of the spider that had been there only moments before.

"Hey ... where'd it go ..." Turning back to Briac with a look of pure sadness on his face, it took all he had not to cry. "I'm sorry Briac, i'm just not as good as you..."

Last from me, I think. Unless you think we need a little more?

Briac scowled. Gosh darn it. Didn't Emrys know how to do anything right? The spider was right there! On the wall! How could his brother not see it? It was right under the...huh...it really was gone. Well, Emrys should have kept on eye on his prey, Briac thought sourly. It was pretty much the first rule of hunting. The black cub sighed, trying to keep his frustration hidden. His brother just looked so sad and disappointed. It would be mean to just yell at him.
The black cub gave Emrys a friendly nudge, smiling as best he could."Oh, that's okay, Emrys! Next time you'll just have to keep your eye on your prey." He closed one of his green eyes, tilting his head so that the open one was shoved near his brother's face. Briac pulled back, giggling at his own antics. "You'll improve in no time, I swear it! We'll have Mom and Dad show you when they come back." Briac offered. If anyone could teach his clumsy brother how to hunt properly, it would be their parents. The thought of asking Izzy brushed across his mind, but Briac quickly threw the thought away. She was just a nanny. Izzy probably didn't even know what hunting was!
The black cub yawned, but Briac tried to hide. Emrys was right about getting to anything he wanted when he napped, but he didn't want to admit it to his brother.

'Next time keep your eye on your prey'

The words seemed to echo in Emrys' head as he tried to commit them to memory. His brother was right, he was never going to be able to feed himself if he couldn't even watch his prey long enough to attack. Sighing he nodded at his brother before letting out a loud yawn, not even trying to hide it.

"Or maybe ... i'm just ... not cut out for it.." Emrys yawned, smacking his lips as his eye lids became heavier. "But we can always ... keep trying." Nodding lazily at his brother he stretched his paws out before him before heading over to Izzy for a naptime story.

"But until then, I can always be good in my dreams .."
