Baatar was feeling rather good about life today. The sun was shining - granted, it always did in these parts, but the good warm feeling on his pelt seemed to radiate inward and encapsulate his mood. He walked on happily, bopping gently as a breeze came to cool the grey lion. He liked to think he'd done a good weeks worth of courageous work, saving a small bird from a tree, helping a lost klipspringer find their way to their art collection. Strange but, rewarding.

The male wasn't a particularly large lion, average sized most would say, but he was large of heart. He had a good sense of what was right and just, and often fought for it, not always with tooth and claw; a few sharp or perfectly structured words could often do the trick. No others knew much of his attempts to make the world a better, braver place, but he was content with only himself knowing, and his pride, and thus, it made him practically glow.

Tim was, to put it simply, rather bored. Why he had chosen to go off on his own, he no longer knew. And now he was starting to regret it. Though he usually wasn't much of a talker, it was still nice to be around people. He hated to even think about admitting it, but he was actually rather lonely.
Oh, what an earful he would get if anyone ever found out. Red Robin? The protege of the Bat? Lonely? Wasn't how the Bats always lived? Tim snorted at the taunts. Sure, he had a tendency to be a little more independent than the other heroes and sidekicks his age, but he still had friends.
The lion stood up from the ledge where he had been sitting. He liked being up high, keeping an eye on everything he saw. It was easier to look trouble that way. But seeing as nothing had happened for a good hour or so, he reckoned it was time to move on.
The rock underneath his front paws gave out from under him, sending him tumbling down to the next ledge below in a cloud of dust. Tim picked himself up, coughing at the dust in his face. He cursed under his breath. The lion had just groomed himself. And now he was dirty again. It wasn't that Tim was one of those vain lions, always grooming himself, but still didn't reflect well on him to walk around covered in dirt all of the time.

Baatar continued to walk, head held to survey the area around him, as he was used to doing. He wasn't paranoid by any stretch of the imagination, he just liked to have his wits about him. As if by magic or some higher calling, his red eyes met with a figure tumbling from a ledge. They were a large figure themselves, black and red. He gasped and moved forward. He guessed the cloud of dust was probably worse than the actual drop, these lands were notorious for being covered in layers of thick earthy dust. "Are you okay?" He called out. The lion looked to be a male of similar stature, so he hoped he'd be fine, after all it wasn't too much of an accident. The stranger was covered in dust but he could still make out his body wore a black mask over two brilliant blue eyes, and he had some kind of strange marking on his shoulder. He as aware that lions naturally came in all kinds of colours with all kinds of markings. Being so plain coloured himself, however, he was often taken aback by some appearances. Not necessarily in a negative way, though.

Still coughing at the cloud around him, Tim glanced down at the figure who had called out to him. It was another lion, male, and a little bit smaller than he was. He seemed to bulkier though, Tim being more on the sleek side rather than the muscular one.
Tim jumped down and landed in front of the stranger, more bits of dirt flying off of his fur. "Just fine, thanks." Tim regarded the other male carefully, assessing him for a threat level. He seemed like he had some sort of combat experience, but he lacked the posture and natural wariness of a trained fighter. Not to mention the male looked generally concerned about Tim's well-being.
The natural colouring made Tim suspicious though. There had been reports of a thief in the area, male, species undetermined, that was supposed to have natural coloured fur. The first person he had talked to had heard rumours that the thief went by the name "Hanja". Tim had been on the look out for the thief while up on the ledge, before he had taken his horribly embarrassing fall. "What brings you around these parts, uh...." He waited for a name, claws slowly slipping out of his paws in case this was the rogue he was after.

He cocked a brow in a slightly confused manner. This lion certainly seemed well composed. He held himself in a different way to those he had seen before. Proud, and controlled, like he was always prepared for something. He was usually wary of other males, but as this one had just tumbled from a ledge, he decided he was unlikely to attack, and smiled widely. "Baatar, friend, and yours?" His red eyes matched the primary pelt colour of the stranger, which he was still eyeing, partially out of admiration. "So, what were you doing up there, if you don't mind me asking." He looked like he was on the watch for something, maybe Baatar could help!

Tim frowned slightly. This Baatar character was staring at him. It was by no means in a bad way, and Tim was used to being stared at (primarily by Bruus, who had a tendency to stare at people without saying anything), but it was still slightly unsettling. It was almost as if Baatar had never seen another lion before.
He seemed too friendly to be the thief. His name didn't match up either, but that was besides the point. It was easy to lie about one's name. Faking personality was much more difficult. A thief would be more wary and flightly. Baatar seemed steady as a rock and genuinely enthusiastic about life in general. It made him think about a friend at home, one that Tim hadn't seen in a very long time. In the back of his mind, Tim cursed himself for trusting this stranger solely based on the similarities he had with Kon, but he was doing it anyways.
"Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Baatar. I go by the Red Robin." Tim answered. At least he wasn't giving out his real name. Bruus would have murdered by now, considering all the times he had told his name to strangers in the past few weeks. But those hadn't really been official business like this was. "I'm looking for a thief by the name of Hanja. He's been stealing from some civilians around the area, including an important dowry gift." The lion explained, rolling his shoulders. It felt good, getting back into work like this. It made him miss home less.

"Red, robin?" He almost tasted the words on his tongue before he said them. The name was very different from those he usually encountered in these lands, perhaps it was a nick name of some sort, or even more exciting, a code name! He nodded deeply, almost too enthusiastically. A theif! Perfect. Maybe he could help out after all. Red Robin seemed to be a sturdy character, he spoke with almost a business-like intention, rather formally. Baatar found it necessary to adopt his way of speech, he did that subconsciously sometimes, he found it helped him better to asses a situation and for a stranger to become more comfortable with him. "Do you seek a companion, or maybe, an aid to your quest? I could help." He wasn't sure in what particular way he could help, but that was something he usually figured out after he'd already thrown himself into a situation.

Tim resisted raising an eyebrow. Baatar seemed rather eager to help, almost too eager. However, instead of sounding off the warning bells in Tim's head, he was instead reminded of a newly-chosen sidekick, ready to go out on their first adventure. Tim remembered when he had been like that, always trailing after his brother and Bruus on their missions.
But did he really need help? It was only a petty thief, after all. Tim hadn't heard anything about this "Hanja" being violent or dangerous. It should be easy to track him down and dispatch him. Then again, the trail had gone cold a day or two ago. Plus it had been so long since Tim had gone on a mission like this with a team. Normally he worked better alone, but he was starting to miss his team a little bit. This Baatar was no trained hero, but he had his heart in the right place. Perhaps he could make an exception just this once. "Some help would be beneficial, Baatar, thank you." He gave the lion a very small smile, a quick flash of emotion before returning to his normal self. "The thief was reported to be headed in this direction." Tim gestured with his head. "I've been following him for a few days now, but the trail went cold."

He supposed this Red Robin character was an official policeman, or sorts, maybe he just looked out for the rogues, as Baatar tried to do himself. He had heard about prides with systems of guards and officers, and sometimes wondered if he would be better off somewhere like that... Though there was alot to be said for working solo sometimes, there was no-one to see your mistakes. He nodded curtly to Red Robin, aware that being too eager was a sure sign of someone that was unprepared for such a task. He needed to approach this with a steady precision. "Have you been scenting yourself, or following tracks?" He asked. He knew many a lion that could scent, but it was usually a skill reserved for the canines of the world.

Tim raised his eyebrows at Baatar's question. It seemed that this stranger knew more than Tim had originally thought. Perhaps he had experience in dealing with criminals. If that was the case, then his help would be much more appreciated. Tim would bet, however, that he was probably still a rookie. Mentally, he shrugged it off. His brother would be mad at him for judging someone just because of their experience. Bruus most likely wouldn't approve of it either, even though the leopard did it all the time.
"I've been tracking by both, but it's rather hard to get a strong scent." Tim scowled. It was not pleasant to admit that a criminal was starting to gain the upperhand over him. "This Hanja knows what he's doing. He's been covering his tracks well." He clenched his jaw. Tim was going to give this thief a nice strong smack upside the head when they caught him. I had been a long time since he had been given the runaround like this, and Tim didn't like it one bit.

"I guess when people have been doing it for long enough, they know how to cover their tracks." His claws flexed into the ground. He had learnt a few lessons from the episode with the greenwood monster. Always plan ahead, never underestimate others, and of course, that he still had a lot to learn about life and potential heroism. He chuckled at that thought. His bruised limbs had healed well and he was lucky he had not suffered a more serious injury from the angry bull elephant. "Does he have a pattern in his theft perhaps, similar items or similar creatures being stolen from?" He guessed it was wise to continue to amass information before they actually moved on to do anything. Red Robin certainly seemed to know what he was doing, it helped if Baatar didn't inadvertently mess things up for him.

I think we can get these two off and tracking pretty soon, and then bring Hanja in on the next RP.

Tim gave Baatar a calculating look. Maybe he really had underestimated this stranger. Patterns and signatures could be considered somewhat advanced topics for those in the hero-ing "profession." Of course, actually being able to recognize and analyze such things were a whole other animal, but simply having the knowledge that such things existed raised Baatar's status in Tim's mind.
He took a moment to gather the information he had stored in his head. "The thefts reported have involved jewelry or other such valuables." The lion explained, reading over his mental reports. "Bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and generally anything involving precious gems or metals." All of the victims had also been female, but Tim wrote that off as a coincidence. It was more likely for a female to be wearing or carrying around the targeted objects than a male. "Pattern suggests he's moving east, but as I said this area is where I've lost him. I think he has a hiding place somewhere nearby. This Hanja is probably trying to wait for things to calm down before he reappears again." Tim growled. He would not lose to some low-down, rotten amateur, regardless of how good the thief was at covering his tracks.

Baatar couldn't help but be curious as the Red Robin reeled off a whole list of information. "Do you know what he looks like atall?" He couldn't help but wonder how one got into this line of work. Maybe he had been born into the business, or perhaps he had just taken it upon himself to be a hero. He could certainly adopt that kind of lifestyle, at least once he became a little less clumsy... Maybe he needed some training. "So, if you don't mind me asking, how did you get into this line of business? It's always intruiged me, but sometimes I don't think I've had enough experience in the field to make that much of a difference." He was aware that the change in conversation may not be welcome right now, but was ready to jump back into business when needed.

I don't know if you got my message about being on hiatus, but I'm back now! and willing to continue if you are. smile

The male's eye twitched. "Not exactly. All I know is that he's a male of natural colouring. Not very many markings." Tim grudgingly admitted. He wished he knew what Hanja looked like. It would make this search a whole lot easier. "The tracks I've been following appear to belong to a hyena, wild dog, or a small feline. The scent has been too muddled to confirm what." The smell confusion had been done on purpose as well, Tim could tell. A few time the tracks has smelled of rhino, elephant, and once even zebra. Hanja was keeping Tim confused intentionally, the sneaky dirtbag.
The lion had to consider what his answer would be to Baatar's next question. Generally heroes out and about weren't supposed to give too much away about the League. However, Tim was finding Baatar rather agreeable. "I was trained by someone else. He was a part of a group that has dedicated their lives to pursuing justice." A group I'm taking a break from. Tim added in his mind, pushing back the beginnings of what could be best described as homesickness.

"That sounds... interesting." Baatar wanted to go all out and express his excitement. He also didn't want to push it, as this fellow seemed rather mysterious. The was usually for a reason. But wow, a real life hero! Somehow, he didn't think Red Robin would appreciate having a new and slightly overgrown fanboy, so he pushed that to the back of his mind.

Maybe he could learn something, even follow? He wondered if he would allow it? Or maybe he preferred a solo mission. Two heads were always better than one, so they said.

"Would you, well, mind if I accompanied you?" Baatar looked to the ground sheepishly. "I suppose, we could do well to work together?" If he could learn from a true hero, he would certainly improve himself, and if he could help someone else... Well that was even better!
