She'd chosen the most remarkable little stretch of swamp to birth her clutch: a copse of thick but well spaced trees, surrounding a small burble of clear water that was little more than a puddle. It was sheltered from the elements but gave enough space for Wicked to move and protect her clutch if need be, though the days she'd spent there had yielded little in the way of any type of company. There'd been small game and plenty of vegetation, allowing her all the food and drink she'd need to keep up her strength and tend to her clutch when the time came.
And when the time had come, oh, had she ever been the proud, doting mother! She'd cleaned them all of their birth and nuzzled them all close together into a pile of foals, ever the happiest Kiokote to walk the swamp. She wasn't overly protective or wary of their exploits in walking and playing, even going so far as to encourage any wandering tendencies within reason. It'd been days since they were born and she was no less excited to greet the sun with her children, though she was admittedly tired. The anxiety of being alone and tending to babies when she'd little mind of how had worn the exuberant female out and, though the sun was in the sky, Wicked slept.
And perhaps expectedly, her youngest son was sleeping very little. Wide awake and full of curiosity and an assertive male dominance, Fade was already stirring up trouble, hunting as his mother slept. Granted, his prey was a small beetle no bigger than the horns on his face and he was still a bit clumsy with his backside, but he was on the prowl, the Great Hunter, and his target would not escape him. Fade stuck his hindquarters up in the air, tail waving around uselessly for balance, nose to the ground, prepared to make his strike. Someone had to be the protector and it might as well as been him...or so he reasoned. Already he was under delusions of grandeur that he'd be applauded for his great kill, sticking his tongue out over the side of his muzzle as he gave his best foal-like focus to his endeavor.

“Hey!” The owner of the rather loud voice was one of the two females of the clutch; a little female that had just stumbled up onto her hooves and was watching her bother intently. “… hey!” Jackal repeated, this time her voice a hushed whisper as she glanced at their sleeping mother. There had never been any chance of Jackal settling down for very long, not when there were things to do and big brothers to play with.
So far hey was the only word she had deigned to speak; using it to demand attention from every one of her family members on a regular basis. The steady stream of ‘hey, hey, hey, hey!’ could only ever be stopped by giving her what she wanted. The little foal grinned widely at Fade, waiting for him to make his move on his bug nemesis. Never mind that she had probably already ruined his focus.
Unmindful of where and who she stepped on, Jackal left her other siblings and mother behind in order to get closer to Fade. Ha, if he didn’t get that dastardly critter, she would!

The deep orange and ashen female stirred in her comfortable slumber upon hearing the sudden loud voice. She frowned in her sleep, moving closer against her sleeping mother but opening her eyes rather immediately when her tail was stepped on, earning a high pitched sound from the older doe. Of course she recognized the sound from her lighter sister, turning to look at her move away from their mother, Fire also spotting her dark brother in the distance.
She didn't know what in the world was going on, curling her legs up against her with no intent to rise from her comfortable position. She wasn't one for impulsive adventure like her other siblings and for now the little foal decided to keep to herself as she usually did. Although she kept a bright eye out at them, deciding she may join them if something interesting happens.

A small cry rose at the back of the pale Kiokote's throat as he watched his two adventurous siblings stumble away. Where were they going? Why were they going? Fearful of being left alone, he scrambled to his feet, knees shaking as he steadied himself.
He stumbled over to Fire and gently nudged her with his nose. "Are you sure?" it seemed to say, "I'm going too."
Another little wobble, and then he was lumbering after his siblings, his larger build noticeable even at this age.

The first 'hey!' about jolted the black male out of his fur, startling him enough that he actually lurched forward. Not only did he loose his footing, he about landed nose first on his quarry, causing the beetle to fly off in alarm. With his mostly lidded eyes barely allowing through their molten orange glow, he blinked in surprise at the dirt on his nose as the splay of his front legs, trying to draw himself up with some form of dignity, even if he didn't know what that meant.
"Hey," he replied tersely to Jackal, though his annoyance was at himself more than her. The prey was gone and his brief image of glory was already fading from his mind. If Fade didn't have something to stalk, then he'd just fall back on his other Most Favorite Thing To Do. Flicking his tail, he clumsily began to gallop towards Jackal, fully intending to pounce her instead.
Wicked's eye opened a sliver at the loud noise, already familiarized with the sounds her children made. With a small whuffle of amusement, she gently nosed Fire before settling again, slipping back into slumber. Just a few more moments wouldn't hurt...

Jackal giggled as the bug escaped, reacting to his short ‘hey’ with an even wider grin. When he suddenly changed targets her ears perked up, little nose wrinkling in delight. This was more like it! She stomped a little hoof down.
Not once in her short life had Jackal backed down from a challenge and she wasn’t about to start now. Despite the size difference, pronounced even as foals, Jackal lowered her head and charged straight at Fade.
The most likely result would be a collision that left her with her fair share of bruises, but that didn’t cross her mind at all. As far as she was concerned, she was more than capable of taking on anyone and was just as big as her Kiokote siblings.

Fire had felt her much bigger brother move towards her even before she felt his nose against her dark pelt, opening her eyes once again to look at the paler foal. She gave him a little sound that wanted to assure him that he should leave her if he wishes, watching him stumble away towards the other two who she clearly saw were practically jumping on each other. She frowned a little, nestling in the warmth of her mother for a long moment as her eyes never left her sister and darker brother.
They seemed to be even charging at each other, the strange siblings. Yet not feeling the presence of her other siblings nearby made her feel rather alone despite her mother's care against her. After a long moment of debate she stood up-- but not before wobbling and stumbling on her dark hooves for a number of times that almost made her give up. Fire followed at the tail of her tall brother, still marveling in quiet awe at his size compared to hers.

Had the dark male been veering towards Fire, he would have been infinitely more careful, even if his awareness of their differences was minimal at best. But Jackal...Jackal was another brother, literally treated no different than how he handled Giant. It was the best compliment he could pay her, and as such, his speed - albeit halting and wavering - was held on course for the pale Acha.
The foal offered little more than a bouncing hop before colliding, and that's what it was -- a sprawl of limbs and ears and twine of necks, ending in a delightful heap of huffs and giggles on Fade's end. Entangled with Jackal, the crown of his head smarting and one of his legs feeling a bit extended, he proudly licked Jackal's face before tugging at her ear with his mouth. The pulling against the ear ceased when he noted the beetle -- or perhaps another, as if he had the attention span to figure that out -- landing approximately where he'd been stalking it before.
"Hey," he whispered with a mouthful of ear at his sister. It was her turn to take on the hunt and salvage their pride.

The Kiokote, now at a dangerous lope, hit the brakes in an attempt to slow down and wait for his sister. Instead, he tripped over his legs and tumbled to the ground with an "ooph."
"Oh... sorry," he said apologetically as he watched the prey of choice beetle fly away. He smiled sheepishly at his siblings and prayed that mother hadn't seen him fall. That dancing father of his probably never tripped over his own legs...
((I don't even know... I'm so sorry for both the fail and the long wait.Cannot make myself hit submit. Must... ;_;))

Jackal recovered quickly from the collision shaking her head to get rid of the ringing sound. She might have been small but she was sturdy, and this was not the first time she had smacked head first with her siblings or taken a tumble. She looked very proud of herself, returning Fade’s affection with a loud ‘Hey!’ in his face and a nuzzle.
With a wrinkle of her nose, her head turned and her gaze narrowed on the beetle. She gave a firm, serious nod. Yes, she would take it out.
However, she never got her chance, not with her other brother stumbling onto the scene. Jackal gave Giant a thoroughly unimpressed look as she untangled herself from Fade and jumped to her hooves. “Hey…” That one word held a rather sulky edge to it.
[Sorry fer the wait ;o;]

The continued 'hey's' certainly didn't help Fire settle back into her comfortable slumber, eyes peeking out to look at her three very different siblings and that elusive beetle that seemed to be playing tricks on them.
She sighed, lifting herself up and slowly walking towards her towering brother, even slightly bumping into his back before she frowned and moved forward. The foal looked back to her sleeping mother and to her siblings, unsure.
"..." she merely looked on the ground, looking for any sort of thing that would keep her busy-- but her thoughts interrupted when a beetle landed on top of her head, Fire letting out a little restrained cry in surprise.

The large, dark male remained where he was, swaying his pewter tail across the ground contently. His neck smarted where his smaller Acha sister had caught him but he was far too proud to display anything less than ease. Fade's dark ears perked upwards as his brother ambled into Jackal, repressing a childish guffaw. The Acha just could not catch a break with her brothers!
But then the beetle landed on Fire's nose, and he tensed a little. The eldest of them seemed to be quieter and more reserved than the surly bunch and, unsure what move to make, he slowly began to pull himself off the ground, head lowered with burning eyes on his sister and her hitchhiker.
