Kana was not terribly open with others but his inherent kindness tended to get in the way of peaceful living. He was constantly helping complete strangers, whether by getting into fights or sharing his kills which meant the colorful cheetah ended up hunting a lot more often than he actually needed to survive, a thought that he regarded with more resignation than anything else. It was simply the way he was and he knew the image of someone in need would forever stick with if she chose to ignore a cry for help.
It had been a bad day for hunting. There was very little in his belly and only a hare in his mouth, not yet fully grown. It would do for now but Kana would have to hunt again soon.

Freya hadn't been doing so well since her mother's death. Being kept in a cave almost all her life, Freya had thought she would be stuck in there forever. Mother had always told her it was too dangerous, she didn't want her being hurt the way her father had. Sometimes Freya longed to go outside of that cave, though sometimes.. she just chose to listen to her mother. Mothers knew best after all. Though her dying, had been an unexpected reality check. She frowned, feeling her belly growl again. She had discovered she had been quite fast, but she was a pretty awful hunter. She had gotten by and survived merely by finding the fish in the rivers. Or sometimes by scavenging off an old kill. She just wasn't meant to be independent, and she hoped she didn't die of it. She had decided today was a day she was going to try hunting again. She was starving, and she didn't know how long it had been since she had had a full meal. She felt her belly grumble again. "I know I know.." She grumbled, as irritated as her belly seemed to be. "But you had best just stop. There's nothing here."

The sound voices reached Kana’s ears and a lifetime living alone in the rogue lands had taught the cheetah to mind his surroundings carefully. Don’t turn your back on an opponent, don’t waste energy hunting if there are lions or hyenas around, don’t let creatures sneak up on you, that sort of thing was all part of the common sense knowledge he’d acquired during his life.
“Who’s there?” he asked, his voice sounding a little muffled due to the small hare in his mouth. He didn’t feel like running away but he was still a sleek cheetah and he’d rather avoid potential dangers.

His voice had her stop dead in her tracks, and she gulped. That.. was terrifying. She hadn't realized someoen else was out there. Though by the tone of the other voice... The other hadn't been expecting anyone either. "I'm here.." She responded reluctantly. She really, truly did wonder if that was the safest way to go about it. Should she have answered the voice? She was hoping that it wasn't dangerous..

When a female voice answered back, Kana almost winced. He was trying to be cautious not scare someone for no good reason. There was nothing wrong with being cautious though and he hadn’t had confirmation that this female was alone.
“Sorry, I wasn’t expecting company. You can come out, it’s just me here.” He tried to soften his voice a little in case he’d sounded too brusque before and he dropped the hare on the ground so that he could speak clearly. “I can’t see you from here.”

When the voice spoke again, she noted a friendly tone in it. She hoped to the Gods she wasn't wrong, and he wasn't looking to trick her. It wouldn't be hard, and she was really starting to regret having left the cave. Even if staying had meant her certain demise. "You have to promise you won't hurt me." She said, stepping out. She was cautious, and thin. Her body obvious that she hadn't been eating as well as she should have. She managed to still look pretty, like she always had. But she lacked the muscle most her age had. "Why, you look almost like a bird." She observed, smiling a little once her eyes rested on him.

Kana's bright green eyes widened when out of the foliage came out the most elegant feline he'd ever seen. A little thin, that much was certain, but lean and graceful like no one he'd ever seen before. She seemed quite fragile as if a burst of wind would be enough to take her down.
"Well, you look like you have your paws on fire, miss. Quite fitting for a cheetah." Kana wasn't usually a humorous fellow especially during those crucial first impressions so his words surprised him almost as much as her sudden appeareance. "I'm sorry, that might've been a little rude for an introduction."

It was hard to insult Freya, mainly because most insults went right over her head. So she looked at hte male and merely arched an eyebrow. Rude? She hadn't thought so. Had he been rude? Well she wasn't about to tell him he hadn't .. She didn't know! But she held no ill will towards him for it. She smiled, looking at her paws, and realized that maybe she did look like she was on fire. "Maybe that's why I run faster than my momma ever did." She said with a happy voice. Then she shook her head and shrugged. "I don't really know 'rude' so to me you were okay. Besides. Im the one who called you a bird." She smiled again.

Kana smiled a little. He was always more comfortable around friendly but not overly effusive characters than those who were openly aggressive, confrontational or simply too outgoing. With someone polite and easy to approach, Kana was quick to lower his guard and go through the motions of a pleasant conversation.
“I guess a proper introduction is in order. I’m Kanatli Shafak. Most call me Kana for short. I was looking for a quiet spot to eat.” The colorful cheetah was quick to redirect the attention away from himself. He looked at the hare at his paws, a hint of doubt in his eyes. He was hungry but it would be pretty rude not to offer her to share the meal… except in this case, the “meal” was so small that it made the whole sharing process next to impossible. While he was trying to decide if offering half a hare was a kind gesture or simply offensive, he realized his actions wouldn’t depend solely on himself. For all he knew, she might not even be hungry. “Are you hungry?”

If there was one thing she wasn't, it was aggressive. But then again she wasn't really outgoing either. She was cautious, and careful with who she befriended. But she also was naive, and it wasn't in her nature to be hateful or mean. "Well, it's a pleasure to meet you Kanatli - .. Kana." She apparently wasn't very good in the memory department either. She didn't know if she could remember his entire name, and she was thankful he had given her a nickname to call him by. When he mentioned a quiet spot to eat, her belly began growling again. She had forgotten for a moment just how hungry she was. She hadn't been taught to hunt, her mother had been too afraid to let her out of the den to teach her. She hated taking from others though, she felt like a scavenger, and no better than a useless vulture. But she couldn't help it, she hadn't eaten in what felt like days. "Kind of." She said quietly, looking at the meal and looking away. She knew there wasn't enough there. If she told him she was starving, he'd feel obligated to share.

The colorful cheetah gave the female a sort of approving nod as she used the shortened form of his name. For someone who was obviously not the assertive type, Kana had to suspect she was far hungrier than she was admitting. Her treacherous stomach further confirmed that suspicion and Kana relented at once, giving in to the fate that had placed a hungry girl in his path.
“It’s not much but you can have this.” Kana said as he pushed the hare in her direction, ignoring the urge to grab on to the meat and not being too obvious in his efforts to swallow the saliva that formed in his mouth as he let go of the carcass. “Perhaps we can hunt together after you eat? This is not an easy terrain and we might be able to bring down something larger if we work together…?” If they joined forces, it would far easier to ambush a gazelle or an antelope with far better chances for success. He didn’t like the idea of leaving a girl with a hungry stomach and he was realistic enough to accept the fact that he probably wouldn’t be able to catch something worthy of note on his own in this place.

When he pushed the hare to her, she fought hard not to smile. She felt almost guilty, but she was starving and she could feel guilty later. She leaned down, tearing into the rabbit quickly. Then after a few quick gulps she pulled back and blushed. Oh how embarrassing. Hunger could do some crazy things to you sometimes. "I-I'm sorry. Yes, I will help you. You were so kind as to help me." She said, and motioned to the rabbit. It was probably obvious that she was starving, her ribcage more visible than it had ever been before. Mother had been a good hunter, but she had failed to teach her daughter how to survive without her. "I'm afraid I'm not the best.. but at the very least I could be a distraction." She said with a nod of her head, and the slightest of smiles.

He felt slightly uncomfortable as she leaned down to eat, giving Kana a good look of the ribs that rested just under her pale skin. In the privacy of his mind, he vowed there and then to stay with the thin girl until she had filled up a bit and he was certain that she would be safe.
“I’m sure we can manage fine. We’ll be able to ambush something larger.” He told her with confidence. “Whenever you’re ready, we can try to track a herd.” Which would be a whole new problem that hopefully they’d be able to conquer soon because his own stomach was threatening to make some rather undignified sounds.
