Magic Affinity: Metal manipulation - Tobias does not need the assistance of heat or tools to move or bend metal materials to his will. This is is especially helpful when dealing with smaller objects and experimental designs that have small pieces which are difficult to reach and move around. Right now he limits himself to using it when he is working on various projects. He also cannot bend anything that is above a certain weight.
Appearance: Tall and thin, bright orange hair, short cropped, with golden brown eyes. A few very plain and simple silver rings are on a few of his fingers, and he dresses modestly and simply, in earthy tones and muted colors such as brown, dark green, grey, and black, with the occasional white or cream. His hands are long fingered and well worn from working with a variety of different materials, and he is slightly round-shouldered from hunching over a table for long periods of time.
Personality: Tobias is relatively easygoing, intensely focused, and a very dedicated individual. One of those people who won't stop until they finish what they've started, this can often be a bad thing, because he lets things get to him, even when he should just ignore it or let it go. He has a hard time doing just that, considering he is someone who will work until the job is done or keep searching until a solution is found. To Tobias, everything has a proper solution - it's just a matter of looking until you find it. While he doesn't exactly get frustrated when he keeps going to no avail, it usually makes him upset with himself, because he feel as though he is inadequate if he is unable to come up with an answer to a question.
This, however, also makes him to be a very loyal friend. His trust in those he cares for is solid and it would take a great deal to switch his beliefs. He is not black and white in his viewpoints, but keeps his mind open so that he is able to stay as loyal as he is. Tobias' heart is kind and he wants to be able to understand those he is around. This isn't always easy, but he is a dependable human being - "solid," as some might refer to him, a person on whom one is able to rely.
He's not extravagant by any means. Tobias prefers structure and simpleness, though he doesn't object to things other than that. His tastes lie in the ease and comfort of something easy to be explained, and while he doesn't really understand the appeal of dramatics or extravagance, he views it more as something that he can observe and take apart, rather than participate in. He enjoys learning as much as he can about anything and everything, and will go to great lengths to discover the meaning behind something.
He is not physically strong, but mentally he is very intelligent and level-headed. He does not act rashly, nor does he do anything without giving it careful thought beforehand. He finds comfort in the everyday simplicities of life and is easily pleased.

Essence/Animal: Bat Orchid / Maned Wolf
Appearance: A tall, lithe young man (at least six feet tall, probably more), with a very angular face and long (waist-length), reddish brown hair swept back, slightly spiky on top. The tips fade darker until black. He has narrow eyes that are a dark brown-gold, and his fingers are long and slightly clawed, with vines of the bat orchid essence wrapped around his right arm.
Personality: Easily irritated, and often confused. He doesn't understand a lot of the simple things that Tobias enjoys, which frustrates him. He is impatient and brooding, and spends a great deal of his time merely looking disdainful and annoyed with life rather than saying anything out loud. He doesn't have any problems with saying what he thinks or stating the obvious facts, but the times he speaks are few and far between, as he does not feel the need to waste his effort on things he cannot change.
Despite this, he is of a curious sort and often will spend his time observing the inner workings of whatever it is that Tobias is doing so that he can learn what is. Loki is a slow learner; he does not grasp things easily, which frustrates him (he considers himself to be "stupid," even when he is not), and oftentimes he will take matters into his own hands; sometimes this yields productive results, other times disastrous, depending on the subject matter.
He is wiry and physically strong, but because of his tall and long-limbed stature, oftentimes clumsy, knocking things over unintentionally and making a mess of things without realizing that he is. However, in spite of his and his rather gruff nature, he cares deeply about what happens to Tobias. It's just a matter of digging deep to unearth the emotions he keeps buried deep and often doesn't recognize himself.

ESSENCE
Name: Bat Orchid
Properties: An unusual plant, discovered in South America. Grows mostly on anthills in the wild. The wide leaves and petals are spread open to attract insects (mostly bees) and once an insect is within the flower, they are forced lower, through a small canal in the flower, where the pollen lays.
ANIMAL
Name: Maned Wolf
Characteristics: A near threatened species that is often portrayed as a "fox on stilts." The maned wolf has very long legs, and is of the same coloring as a red fox, though they are from different families. Maned wolves do not form packs, unlike regular grey or arctic wolves, and prefer to do their hunting solo. They are carnivores, and feast on small mammals. They are not hostile towards humans unless provoked, and are more likely to be shy and flee when it is provoked.
