a story written in the first person or in the third person?

Well, if I'm reading it really doesn't matter. I enjoy both povs. With writing, I find that I naturally write in third person but I don't mind writing in first if I feel it is best for the story. How about you?

It depends on the story.

But I usually go with first.

It definitely depends on the story. Some of my favorite stories are written in first person, but I almost always gravitate to third person when I write.

I suggest experimenting. When I first started writing the novel I'm currently working on, I wrote in third person but it didn't really sound right so I switched a section to first. It ended up sounding alot better so I am using first instead of third even though it's my preferred point of view. I think you should just experiment with the two povs and see which one you feel is best for the story. Oh and my dad says I like writing in third person because I like being in the background, observing people, instead of being the center of attention. A little weird but true. Just thought I'd share smile

I definitely prefer writing in the third person, but then again, it really depends on what I want the audience to know and the mood I want to set. For example, Harry Potter was written in the third person. You get to really feel for the characters because you are able to see what the villains are up to and you get to see what Harry doesn't see which makes the audience wonder how the group will find out about what's going on and how they will deal with it. The Hunger Games, on the other hand, is written in the first person. You get to know Katniss very well and her struggles and her judgments against the world and other people. You are limited by what she knows, which can be a good thing and a bad thing.

Just a thought.

I prefer third person. I like to know what everyone is up to and trying to figure out how they will overcome obstacles.

I do like the way Witch and Wizard is written in first person. It jumps between the two siblings so you get more than one first person view
