Finding the little pig figurine might have been absolutely insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but it had meant a lot to Jett. Well—as much as something could mean to him. He had looked at it for a while, left it out on the counter, half expecting Millicent to be drawn to it like a pig to a truffle. But she hadn't shown up. Not in days. The last time Jett had seen the girl had been weeks ago—and it wasn't until he really stopped to ponder it that he realized how much that bothered him.
No longer did she run in with odd, deranged claim or demands to take her somewhere. She didn't come in to chat, or see if he'd been keeping up with those weird little light saber forms.
Jett had been, in his own way, worried for her. So after work, he'd wrapped up the little pig, skipped his usual cheeseburger stop, and driven right to Millicent's house. He figured it was late enough that school would be out, but early enough that he wasn't going to pluck her from the dinner table. Pulling into the driveway, he slid out of the car and in a matter of seconds was knocking on the front door.

Millie hadn’t been doing much, though she didn’t ever really do much nowadays it seemed. She liked to read, but…that wasn’t a very social activity, and when she wasn’t reading she was normally out patrolling, but it was much too early to patrol so she couldn’t be doing that right then.
The girl sighed when there was a knock on the door and put down her book, doggie earing the page before walking to the door and opening it slightly. “Yes?” She blinked at who was out there and sighed. “Oh. Hey Jett. What’s up?”
It wasn’t that she was upset to see him…but she just…didn’t really like to see much of anyone right now. It just wasn’t…good to hang out right now. She had so many better things that she should be doing, and hanging out with friends just made her feel like she wasn’t doing enough to help the city. She felt useless just sitting around and waiting for the sun to go down…but…there wasn’t much else she could do until the sun went down.

Jett frowned and raised a brow at the girl. She sighed? Sighed at seeing him?
He did a quick mental check, trying to think of something that he could have done to irritate her, though drew up mostly a blank.
"Just a 'hey Jett', that's all I get?" he asked, brow raising. "Haven't seen you in ages, Millie, I wanted to come check on you. You busy right now or something?" he prompted, though—really—how busy could an eleven year old be?
Though, she certainly didn't have her certain spark in her eyes or voice; she wasn't bouncing around like she typically was. Jett had been worried before, but now he just didn't know what to make of it at all. "Milkshakes are on sale, so I thought I'd come grab you and we could go out, catch up, and I'd have you back before your mom ever even realized you were gone. You wanna?" he asked, gesturing towards the car.

Millie shrugged, then gave a little nod . “Yeah, I guess so. I mean, I’m not doing much of anything else I guess.” She shook her head. “I’m not busy at all so no, it’s all good. I do like milkshakes. They’re good and stuff. But I have to be home before dark, okay? Mom will be home by then…” She trailed off, then shrugged again. Sure, that was a bit of a lie, but what was it going to hurt. Jett had brought up her mother in the first place, so she figured it would be a good thing to go on.
Really she just wanted to be home so she could duck out again and go patrolling. That’s all that really mattered right now. The darkness had to be stopped, and the chaos had to all be destroyed. There were agents of the good side who were losing faith, and someone had to go out and clean up their messes, and for all she knew, she was the only one doing it, after all.
“Do you want me to go get a jacket or something?”

"Uh, yeah, couldn't hurt to have a jacket with you. I mean, I'll have you back before dark, so it shouldn't be too cold but—probably is a good idea. You know how cold it can get when milkshakes are involved. But first," he held up a finger, as if to signal for her to give him a moment, and then fished through his pockets to withdraw the wrapped pig. "I wanted to give this to you." Better now than after they'd left; he didn't want her to have to carry it around or worry about not losing it in his car. "Saw it in the store, thought of you. Was going to give it to you the next time you dropped by, but you know." He shrugged, and held out the item. "Figured you were busy with school so I wanted to make sure you got it."
It was still a bit difficult for Jett to be sentimental about much of anything, but Millicent had always been a special case. Whether he'd say it or not, he'd missed her, and her attitude allowed even him to worry about her. Difficult as it might be not to pry, he was hoping it was just an off day and that she'd cheer up before the end of it. If pigs and milkshakes weren't enough to brighten her day, he wasn't sure what was.
