Informative Blurb: Berkenye is a mixture of a greater rhea and a formosan termite. There were a few complications initially, leading the Lab to be uncertain of whether or not he would properly develop. However, against initial odds, he appears to be perfectly healthy, so we are pleased to welcome him as a new addition.

Firstly, he is another multi-limbed tekimi, though his extra set has manifested as a smaller, reduced set of arms. His fore and middle fingers are fused together, and his pinky seems to have been completely absorbed into the third finger - an x-ray indicates the bones, but there is no visible sign of them. These are all bound by somewhat elastic, thin skin, forming small, flightless wings. The thumbs on these wing-hands are fully opposable, and the limbs themselves are fully motile, though perhaps limited in actual use. They also tend to pose a problem when fitting him for new clothing.

Most of Berkenye's skin is smooth and almost waxy; it appears that he secretes a slight waxy material that coats his skin. This coating seems to make his flesh much more supple while acting as a sort of barrier against things sticking to him; he rarely gets dirty, as dust and dirt seem to just flake right off of him. The downside to this is that it seems to take more for him to be able to sweat, and when he does it has less of an effect as the evaporation is not happening directly on his skin. He is uncomfortable in heat and likely to overheat before an average human would. He is, however, less likely to dehydrate from being in the heat.

Berkenye's other distinctive physical trait is that is capable of digesting cellulose in large amounts. In addition, the inside of his mouth is somewhat hardened, and his saliva is more acidic than a standard human. Overall, this makes him very well suited to chewing on items like wood and leaves. He is capable of digesting animal proteins, but his body is rather ineffective at it, so we don't recommend it in large amounts!

Finally, of course, there is one other notable feature about Berkenye ... He is completely blind. He actually does have dark eyes in his sockets, but they are overlaid with a thick, waxy skin which lays under his eyelids. Behind this skin, there is only a token bit of fluid; he lacks any sort of retinal structure or even an optic nerve. He does have eyelids, and when prodded he appears to blink instinctively, but otherwise rarely moves them. He does not seem to have active control over any musculature connected to the act of moving his "eyes," either.

Flaws:

===== Insatiable: Berkenye always wants more. More food, more friends, more companionship, more food, more talents, more knowledge, more food, and possibly some more food. No matter what he's just done or been given, it's never enough. That doesn't mean he's ungrateful - he appreciates everything he's given - but that doesn't mean he's happy with it. It's not enough. He needs more. It's likely a form of compensation for senses he doesn't have - if he can't see anything, then he needs to smell more, taste more, touch more, hear more, know more to compensate. This is not an active desire - he would never realise this nor even attempt to put it into words.

===== Needy: This tekimi doesn't really like to be left alone. He gets incredibly anxious when no one is around him and goes out of his way to seek company if he has none. Any attempts to force him to spend time alone results in him starting to nervous eat, which is far from recommended if any documents of value are left with him.
