Why was she even contemplating this move? Kayleena's hooves skittered uneasily on the loose rock outside of what she'd come to associate as Daimhin's cave before she turned to scan the horizon. The usdia had suspected that some major change in the land had occurred. She wasn't curious enough to dig deeper into the sensation but she felt uneasy nonetheless. Her mission it seemed now was to find someone that she could trust as a hidden ally against the other members of the Mahapadma. Even though Daimhin had protected her against Samsara the little usdia was forced to realize that he too fell into the group as what she was seeking protection against. She had seen that pink bear still hanging around and now she was going to do something radical. The time for meek and mild had passed. Kayleena wanted to know that she could rely on someone to protect her against possible danger.
The possible exchanging of food sources had been an unexpected assist in this endeavor she was setting out on. Surely the bear wouldn't run or try to attack her if she approached ... would it?

The search on day one had not gone at all as planned. Kayleena had been forced to turn back and hide from the sight of a passing member of Samsara's "herd." It was funny how Daimhin had introduced her to the members but she had truly not recognized this large mare. All Kayleena had done was duck behind a large stump that had concealed her form. From there she had dashed back to the cave in order to avoid detection.
For some reason she wanted to keep her mission a secret. It was partially because she feared severe repercussions in her plan was ever figured out and also because of the mystery that now surrounded her at every turn. Daimhin was acting a little more strangely. He might not have noticed but Kayleena sensed that there was a sense of ease that surrounded the stallion. He didn't talk to her much about Mahapadma's current doings and on her part Kayleena didn't know if she had wanted to ask about them. But there had been hushed group meetings that she had not been privy to. The menacing air seemed to have grown stronger before fading and Kayleena wasn't sure what it all meant. She was not going to bother finding out either. She needed to keep her mind on track though. Perhaps tomorrow she'd venture out a little further to the west. She'd spotted footprints that looked like it could have come from a rather heavyset creature.

Kayleena was almost ready to give up. There was a chance that maybe the bear had moved on out of the area. The little usdia huffed silently as she scanned the horizon. The idea of following footprints hadn't worked. If fact she almost ended up some other creature's meal. A silent retreat had saved her hide so to speak. Kayleena shook her head with a soft motion to flick her mane onto the other side of her neck. Where was that pink bear?
Turning around Kayleena began to trek back towards Daimhin's cave. He'd left her alone and it seemed as though he trusted her not to leave Mahapadma territory as he had not resumed blindfolding her. After the encounter with Samsara it seemed as though she owed the stallion to remain.
A flash of pink out of the corner of her eye had Kayleena turning her head to the left. A smile broke out on her face as she realized that she'd found her quarry. Well ... if finding meant that the creature was sitting outside the cave entrance. Kayleena slowly approached the bear and dipped her head timidly in welcome. "Hello."

The bear eyed the small creature as it approached. Its nose took in the strange smell the creature exuded before snuffling gently. It's head cocked to one side as a sound came out of the creature's mouth before grunting in reply. It turned and eyed the cave before stomping a paw on the ground ... as if in anger.

This gruff response was not something Kayleena had been expecting. The bear's glare towards the cave puzzled the usdia. What was the creature so seemingly angry about? With a little hesitant step forward Kayleena moved closer to the bear. Her eyes widened at the sheer strength reflected in the way that the bear's hide rippled with every movement. The mare inched closer so that she stood face to face with the bear.
To stand in front of such a creature without flinching would be a true test of Kayleena's inner courage. She wanted to earn this creature's trust and the exchange that they had inadvertently shared days before might have eased the way into what Kayleena hoped was not just another fanciful dream. Daimhin had once betrayed her trust. This brave creature beside her could stop that from happening again. Without missing a beat Kayleena folded one leg and gave a clunky bow of greeting. It was a sign of respect. Kayleena rose from the lowered position to watch for any reaction. Her heart sank just a little as the bear padded around her and into the cave. Had she failed to convey what she wanted???

A sign of respect? Why was this strange being bowing to her? The bear scented the air before realizing that the cave she now stood in the entrance in was indeed the one that she had tried to den in before. Her gaze took in the familiar walls before turning back to gaze at the other figure. A low grunt was sounded and she was pleased to see the creature take notice. Without waiting she stepped out of view and further into the cave. She was home at last. How long would she be able to stay in here this time was a lingering question she would have to try to answer.
The sound of hooves echoing across stone made the bear pause in her thoughts and turned around to see the creature step into the cave proper. It was time to reveal the truth of this place to what she was beginning to consider a possible friend.

Kayleena was indeed baffled. What was going on here? The bear looked like it seemed right at home in the cave. Kayleena once again used caution as she trekked up the small incline to stand at the cave entrance. Taking a deep breath she disappeared after the bear before her mind began spin out a possible theory. Bears liked to den in caves. This cave had seemingly been empty and not in use when Daimhin had brought her here. Since she had been held "captive" there had been no sign of life from within. Perhaps though this creature was just waiting for a time to reclaim her home.
Kayleena lifted her gaze to see the bear snuffling at the corner that her "bed" was in before she gave a giant sigh. Realization that Daimhin had probably chased this creature out of her natural home hit the little usdia like a ton of bricks. It wasn't in her power to right the situation but perhaps there was something that she could do to make it up to the bear. Kayleena glanced towards the cave entrance. How much time would she have to make this new idea work?

The bear glanced up from investigating the soft pile of grasses. It carried the same scent that the stranger before her exuded. The bear guessed that it was where she slept. The only other strange smell in the cave was a trace of the one that had chased her out of her home. The bear grunted softly before cocking its head to the side as it observed the other. She couldn't be sure but it looked as if perhaps no explanation was needed. If she was reading the other's expression correctly she understood now what had happened.
What she didn't expect was for the stranger to bow her head silently. Strange words began to echo against the cave walls and the bear gave a silent huff as the meaning became clear. This stranger was apologizing to her. Taking pity the bear shuffled over to the now distraught creature. With due care she took her paw and gave the stranger a gentle cuff on the side. She stuck her nose into the creature's side before giving a soft growl. It was not meant at all to be threatening; rather she meant it as a soothing gesture. It seemed to have an effect as the sounds from the stranger stopped. The creature lifted it's head to gaze silently into her eyes ... and something passed between them. A spark of knowledge that maybe they were in this situation now together. The bear grunted again before pulling back and lifting her paw to hover in midair.

Kayleena felt the bear's cuff to her side. She still kept her head down though. That was when she heard the low growling sound. She was puzzled. The bear didn't seem to be ready to attack and so she stopped the litany of words that had been pouring out from her heart before lifting her head up slowly. The mare met the bear's eyes and felt something. A connection was forming it seemed. She sniffed once before realizing that the bear was offering her paw out to her. Kayleena stared at it in confusion before she understood what was going on. It seemed as if the bear was offering her a silent vow.
Kayleena picked up her left hoof and gently placed it onto the bear's paw before giving a soft chuckle. The sound morphed into a joyful sound before she eyed the bear. "I am Kayleena. Do you have a name?"

The noises had stopped. The feeling of a slight weight shift onto her paw sealed the deal. At the sound of laughter the bear gave a roar before silencing the sound. It seemed as though the bond was growing stronger by the minute. The reason behind the thought was that she could understand the words coming from the other's mouth. The bear grinned, flashing small pointy teeth. "Kay-lee-na. I am Nashota."

Kayleena's eyes widened at the sound of recognizable words coming from Nashota. They could understand each other now. How was this possible? Questions aside though Kayleena realized more than anything that she'd found a new friend. The mare stood back for a moment to observe Nashota before she asked the first question that came to mind. "Nashota ... am I mistaken or is this place your home?"
Although Kayleena wasn't sure if she wanted to know the answer it would make a lot more sense. It would explain why even though the Mahapadma controlled this land that Nashota risked staying around. The mare looked thoughtful for a moment. "It might not be very powerful coming from me ... but you are welcome to remain here for as long as you want. If you stick nearby I can look out for you."

To be able to stick around nearby; it wasn't the most palatable of options but perhaps it was for the best. Nashota grunted softly. This had been her home. There was the chance that it could once again be her home once more. Her thoughts on the matter is that she just wanted to take back her cave once and for all but now Kayleena was offering her the next best thing it seemed. She could stick with the mare and reclaim her home at the same time.
"You are not mistaken Kayleena. This was my cave. One of your kind chased me out and took over residence. For the longest time I could not get near this place. Now it seems that you are offering it back to me. I am grateful to you for this show of generosity."
Nashota gave a heavy sigh before padding over to where Kayleena slept. "Don't worry about things to come. We are bound together now. There isn't anything we can't face as a team." With that Nashota curled up into a giant ball of fur and promptly fell asleep.

Kayleena listened as Nashota gave her the answer she was looking for. What she didn't expect was the unswerving loyalty that Nashota had just essentially sworn to her. Kayleena glanced towards the cave entrance and sighed. Daimhin probably wouldn't be pleased. However it wasn't like he could chase off Nashota again. The little usdia had a feeling that things would be changing very soon.
As she curled up against Nashota's side she gave a content sigh before whispering under her breath. "No matter where our destiny leads, I'll be there for you, always come through and that you can believe."
