So a couple of friends and i decided we were going to go to a national park and climb a mountain yesterday (almost died but hey it was fun.)

So its 4kms up and 4kms back (8km all up) up stairs and fairly steep walking tracks, plus a 400m free rock climb. This took us aprox 4 hours to do.

My issue is that i appear to have strained my calves and the muscles at the top of my butt.
It is currently around 34 hours since i finished the climb and i still have pain when i attempt stairs (which i have to do for both work and my house) and standing on my toes, walking is more like hobbling and i cannot move fast xP

I'm thinking its just muscle cramping or strain as it was fine up till i got out of bed for work this morning, then it was painful, not unmanageable pain but enough to make it uncomfortable.

I have had a hot shower (i don't have a bath in my house) and stretched the muscle after i got out of the shower as i thought it might help, which it has a little, any other tips to try??

(inb4 yelling at me for neglecting to stretch properly before we started >_>; )

The best thing you can do is just wait it out and up the amount of protein you're taking in.
It's good to keep stretching like you've been doing, and if it doesn't hurt too bad, try taking some walks. Whenever I had sore legs from doing 500 squats the day before, keeping myself busy with light activities helped relieve the pain more than sitting for long periods of time.

The best thing to do is avoid using the muscles. obviously you can't, but resting the muscle. you're past the time to help it, so temp therapy won't help. just take it easy for a while. if it's your upper butt then it might be your lower back as well, and you do NOT want to ******** that up worse. take care, hope you feel better soon.
