This is a brooding, dark tale of a brother believed to be wronged by an oblivious sister. Though of not exact blood, they remain kin and that is enough to make the dark heart angry. With his trusty manservant, he traveled far and wide to find the blemish on his lineage of his mighty father and proud mother.
Now she is within his grasp. And he will exact his cold revenge...and will deal with any who get in his way...
A mare will fight to protect her life...
A mate will fight to protect her love...

It had been quite the while since Kainda had any time to herself. Tide was out on patrol while her children were off galloping their own lives away. Kai had found a brotherhood with his two cousins while Tempest had found a teacher in her new guardian. And as much as she loved Tide, she needed the time apart to keep herself...well herself. Being a mother had definitely changed her.
It took her a moment as she reflected on her life going out vastly far from herd territory into neutral lands. She remembered her upbringing. How her parents were always nomadic and her mother was very harsh on her. How she barely saw her father save for when he felt like it and only to shower his mother with idle threats of not bearing him a son. That anger spilled over from her mother to Kainda who berated her daughter each opportunity she could. The hurt and anger still boiled over in Kainda, but she had learned to deal with it and she hoped that she had dealt with it well. Her family could attribute to that. She loved them dearly and learned to love her mate's herd as they both took over the lead position after her brother-in-law's passing.
Her mind wandered as she enjoyed the day. The breeze was pleasant as the air was cool, yet the sun shown down on her warming her ever so often. Nothing could be as perfect as time to meditate...

Anger burned and boiled at the stallion's heart as he flew higher and higher into the skies. For as nice as a day as this, it was still raining revenge in his heart. All his life he had been crowned his father's pride and joy. He had done well choosing a priestess to bear his son, but it still remained that he was second. Even as he was treated like a king, he was second. He would always be second to his pathetic whelp of a sister. Her name wasn't even on the records and it took forever to track her down. And yet in his heart of hearts, she was here. He knew she was here and that she was very close. Stryker, his manservant, had gone ahead to scout the area even as Reth flew across the winds.
His eyes landed on the frame of the black and turquoise male in front of him. His face was hardened but his golden told him something. He found her. A wicked sense of glee filled his heart as the male silently widened around the other stallion before heading off in the direction from whence he came. Reth followed quickly wanting to waste no time. Stryker started to fly higher which made Reth wonder if his half-sibling had any wings. But then he realized that he did so to flight more into the sun. His tracker was smart and therefore worthy to be his. That was something he loved about Stryker other than his submissive nature. He always gave in to his master's needs...
When Stryker stopped, Reth had to control his flight to prevent knocking into him else their cover he blown. He looked downward watching and looking slightly confused until he saw it: an orange and blue blip across the green fields. His red eyes squinted as he continued to watch her. This mare...this...irritating blemish on his life. He dared to hover closer paying Stryker heed no longer. He had done his service. Reth noticed that there was oddly nothing special about this...mare that shared his father's genetics. She was...quite plain in fact. His father should never have mated with a commoner if he had wanted a son. The male couldn't help but snort before he dove down galloping in the winds as his wings propelled him forward. He pulled back in enough time to make a smooth landing right in front of her...
"The eff?!" He heard her say. My she spoke so barbarically as well! Was she as dumb as she looked. His red eyes glared as he took in the one that was his sister. My she was a disappointment and horrid to look at. Why didn't Father kill her when he had the chance? His wings beat for a moment before he let them rest at his sides, his hair brushing against his face as he stood steadfast in front of the mare. "So...you are the mark on my family's name...pity. I was expecting someone...better...No matter. I will end you fairly quickly..."

Meditation would have to wait it seemed. She felt the wind brush hard against the top of her frame causing her to look skyward. Her eyes laid on the form of a speeding stallion rocketing toward the earth - toward her. Instinct told her to move as her body already went into motion. It seemed that the stallion had no intent of hitting her however as he landed. "The eff?!" Her familiar cry was often used when she was in shock and indeed she was. She stared into the red eyes of the oddly familiar stallion as memories flashed back to her. 'Father had those red eyes...' Kainda mused glaring at the stallion before her. He spoke slowly as if he was dumb, but his words held more venom than she appreciated. "Mark? What mark? I haven't spoken to my family in eons." Kainda grunted, her body started to grow taut. Something told her to be on edge...
End what quickly? She was about to open her mouth to speak when he sudden rushed her. He was large and he was fast. Kainda scarcely had time to move out of the way as his horn raked along her side starting at her shoulder and ending at her mid belly, the crimson line near her back. She snorted turning to face her opponent as her mind went on the offensive. He rushed in for another attach and this time she was ready. The mare met him with her own horn feeling the smacking sound of bone against bone, her face unpleasantly close to his own, her body pushing as she grunted. The mare reared up on her hind legs using her front to push and law at his chest and knees. It was then that the stallion reared back using his wings to give him balance as he backed away, her momentum carrying her forward. The stallion used this to his advantage and smacked her hard in the face with his front hooves. Kainda gave a surprise cry as she felt her body slam down toward the grass. She felt the wound give as the blood slowly oozed from the wound on her head, the pounding sensation now a roar within her ears. "Who are you?!" She snorted afraid to move as she attempted to get her bearings.

Just watching her made his blood boil hot in his body. Their gaze met as he realized she had the same eyes as their father, as him. That further annoyed him. It seemed as though she also got his horn. But did she know how to use it? Her voice irritated him and with that, Reth rushed before giving her any time to react. Elation filled his heart and soul as his horn raked across her sensitive body. He had wanted to draw a full line from chest to rump, but his sister was quicker than he gave her credit for. Reth then whirled around using his wings to aid him as he shot forward.
This time he was met with a surprisingly strong force. He had to balance himself from the blow that she dealt him to parry his strike. The stallion backed away a little feeling her push herself against him. Their eyes locked once again seeing the confusion and fear in them. Good. She should fear him. As she reared upward in an attempt to damage his front, Reth simply scoffed and backed away propelling himself with his wings. The mare faltered losing her balance, but not before her horn struck across his face leaving a gash on his nose and close to his eye. Angered, Reth used his front hooves to pommel her giving her a good smack across her head and face. She fell hard to his delight as he settled just in front of her. He snorted feeling the blood trickle down his face dribbling a little onto his mouth and neck. The stallion licked it gingerly watching her struggle. It seemed he had almost knocked her unconscious.
"Who am I?" He repeated her question before a sadistic smile came across his face. "Your end." He reared up and brayed loudly before slamming back down onto her midsection. She cried out much to his enjoyment. The stallion proceeded to pummel his half sister into unconsciousness having no thoughts for what she might be feeling or what bones he might be breaking. That was the whole point wasn't it? Before she blacked out, he gave a small hiss coming close to her face. "I am Reth, son of Dragon Priestess Draxia and Chosen Divine Warrior Roarke Tynian. The blood of my father is within you and because of that, you stole first born. You still my birthright. I cannot have that. You are nothing but a blemish that must be eradicated..I will end you and everything you have ever loved." He then spat in the mare's face as she lay limp barely breathing and obviously beaten close to death. She would lead him to her family and from there he would torture her until she begged to die. Once those words left her lips, it would be over. He could claim his rightful place as his father's first.

Kainda attempted to rise from her position feeling hurt. She turned her face upward catching another glimpse of him before he slammed down on her midsection. She brayed out in pain sure that something had probably broken under all of his weight. She then attempted to do something she never had before in a fight: run. The mare tried to rise, but the intense pain of breathing made it harder for her to do anything. It was then that he struck again, this time at her back legs. The mare gritted her teeth refusing to give this monster the cries of pain he desperately wanted from her. It just caused him to beat her harder with those massive hooves. But Kainda attempted to fight back rolling to dodge his blows and kicking her own hooves up to damage him. Needless to say, he simply would not give up even if she did get in a few lucky shots to his legs and chest. At one point, she felt her hoof smack against the tender bits below which eased up a little on the beatings if only for a moment. The stallion was stubborn and relentless, however. It was as if he was possessed by the devil himself.
When all was said and done, she lay there on her side feeling her body burning and aching. Blood had matted on her fur and her body felt bruised to the point of coming apart. She didn't even want to think about breathing. It was then that he came ever so close to her face, but she was so dizzy..she felt strange. Yet her ears perked as he spoke. "....Reth...son of... Roarke...first born...birthright...blemish that must be eradicated....end you..." Then came the spit. Ugh! If only she wasn't so battered. The mare would end him that was for sure! But her mind then went to Dark Tide, her beloved. And her children, Tempest and Kai... She couldn't leave him..did he know about them?
It was then that she felt his presence no longer. She felt the breeze and faintly heard his wing beats...He was gone. The mare waited a little while wondering if maybe he or someone else he sent would come back. Kainda then slowly raised herself to her feet. Oh yes - he had broken something. Her ribs felt aching as she coughed, some blood coming out. That wasn't good at all. Thankfully most of her legs worked saved her front right. She could deal with that...The mare limped along only worried about home, her blood leaving a trail behind her. She needed to get home, get somewhere safe... It was nightfall by the time she saw the big tree in the distance. It wasn't far, but she was so exhausted...Kainda collapsed too weak to call for help. If Tide or someone was doing patrols, she was sure they would find her. But could she make it that long? Daresay until the morning? Kainda simply closed her eyes too tired to think anymore as unconsciousness took her.[[Maybe have someone besides Tide find her first and call for help? Totally up to you. But it's time to bring in the family.]]

Ka was indeed one patrol, doing his part for the herd he was visiting. He saw a spot of orange in the distance, must be Tide's misses returning from her short sojourn. Oh no... she had fallen. That wasn't like Kainda at all. Ka raced out to her, shocked to see such a powerful mare so ragged and bloody. Blood leaked everywhere pooling in a sticky way in her fur and slowly trickling to the ground. Ka needed to do something. Okay. He needed Tide and someone with wings to get someone who can heal. Ka leaned down and told Kainda, "You'll be alright Mum you made it home" Then Ka took off to find Tide. He found the stallion under one of the apple trees, just standing serenely. Tide looked up as he approached instantly sensing something was deeply wrong as not many things made Ka show the whites in his eyes. "Ka what is it?! I know something is wrong." "Its Kainda, she has been beaten so she can no longer stand, she is on the south hill the one with that fuzzy bush on it. I need to find someone with wings to send for Ed. Where is Sky? He is the fastest."Tide was already moving. "The north pasture, send for the whole damn kingdom please."Ka started off toward the north and narrowed his instructions down to ed, he would know what to do. Ka found Sky and sent him off before looking for Kainda's kids, to keep tabs on them so they didn't clobber Tide when they found out. He could tell Tempest he knew, but not Kai yet.Tide reached Kainda in record time. "Oh my heartling, what has happened to you?" He reached down and caressed her beloved face. Oh Kainda." He didn't know what could have done this to his warrioress not in her own lands so far from the six. Not many of which dared to travel so close to the greater herds, particularly one of this size. "Im here Kainda Im here, help is on the way."

The mare had been resting in her little area snuggled within her pine needles. Mom had gone off for a walk earlier, and Tempest was too lazy to get up. It was just one of those days where she wanted to rest and mull things over. Especially her feelings for a certain stallion. That particular stallion question seemed to be running at quite the pace. The mare stretched her frame a little as she rose managing to make her way toward the big tree. If there was news to be told, it was usually there. Tempest slowly got a sinking feeling that it might have been about Mom... Nailiah cantered across the field for a surprise visit to her beloved. She was in particularly good spirits for atop her back was a humanoid figure that had fallen asleep with her head in the mare's mane, body laid across the white mare's back with her legs slightly tucked toward her belly to keep a hold as Nailiah walked as well as balance for the human traveled with a pack on her back always. Athari was usually more alert but it seemed as though she had dozed off after the traveling, but the mare was too excited to introduce her new found love to her human companion and best friend. The mare's pace slightly slowed as her nostrils caught the scent of blood. The white mare looked down at the grass absently and noticed the blood trail a few inches away. She stopped and lightly whickered to awake the sleeping human with an urgency. "Athari. Wake up..." The human girl grumbled as she raised her body from slumber immediately assuming her position of squatting on the mare's broad back."Hrrgh...what is it, Nai-" Athari stopped short looking down at the blood. This was serious. "I am guessing this is coming from the direction of her love's herd, hmm?"Athari hadn't even finished speaking as Nailiah picked up the pace going a little faster than a trot, her nostrils quivering as the scent of blood grew stronger. A patch of orange and blue lay in the distance as a figure of black and white came up to her nudging her gently. "Dark Tide!" The white mare called stopping short as she flanked the two of them giving space.Athari watched with interested eyes before sliding off the worried mare and keeping her stance neutral. "Hail, Dark Tide." Her voice was gentle a she held out her hands to show she held no weapons. She slid her pack off her back and looked toward the mare. "She's been attacked. By the wounds another azrein." Athari looked up toward the stallion as she presume it was this one's mate. "I have a little medicine, but more will surely be needed. How long has she lain her? Has help already been sent for?" The amazon's green eyes looked up to Dark Tide as she knelt down close to Kainda attempting to asses the damage. Someone definitely had it out for this mare..Kainda gave a grunt coming into consciousness hearing the pounding of hooves heading toward him. She managed to open her eyes enough to see a purple and white figure. By his voice, it was Ka, bless him. She had indeed made it home. Her eyes closed as she concentrated on resting and breathing attempting not to go back into the darkness. Everything ached, but the pain was helping keep her awake. Her eyes opened yet again as the ever so familiar smell and voice of her mate reached her. She couldn't help but whinny gently reaching out for him weakly. The mare attempted to speak but did nothing but cough causing pain to wrack her body again. At least he found her. Then there were other voices, and an unfamiliar presence. Kainda gave a snort as if to warn them to stay away. Even at this current stage, she was still fighting.

"Easy my heart, it is just Nailiah's bonded, with herbs. Edward is on the way." He told Athari, "She hasn't been here very long" He leaned down again to touch her, not wanting her to stretch out too far for him. "Easy sweetheart."
Not long after this wingbeats could be heard from the air as the Black Duke came at alarming speed running before his feet touched the ground with a huge satchel full of healing stuff. He sighed as he saw antoher human. "Thank you for coming Athari, I feared i would not be fast enough." Edward placed hands on Tide's body and approached his mate carefully, knowing Kainda could be prickly about humans. "Approach her carefully and quietly, touch her so she knows your there, watch the wounds." Edward stroked her neck, and brought out some acoutrements of the healing arts, "You probably know a little more then me Athari, but when we wrap her ribs she will need to be lifted." He leaned down, "Kainda you can move everything right?"

Nailiah only left when the Duke came on the back of Sky. She nodded her acknowledgements to Tide's nephew before giving a gentle nudge on Athari's back. "I'll go and find the children." Nailiah rushed her words in a vain attempt to not have Kainda listen. The white mare then dashed forward going to catch up to Tempest at least then Kai. No telling what the orange Prince would do. 'Don't go far, my heart.' She heard Athari call for her mentally. 'I may need you soon.' Nailiah simply whinnied loud enough for Athari to hear as she went to pursue the children.
Athari looked over to Tide giving a nod rummaging through her pack. She managed to find some herbs and quickly stuffed it in her mouth to chew looking much like a gopher with her swollen cheeks. Before Kainda had any time to react, Athari lifted the mare's head, opened her mouth and spat the mixture in letting Kainda slam her own teeth shut which made her inadvertently swallow. The human looked up to Tide with a mischievous grin. "Chamomile. It'll help her calm." She then turned back to Kainda just in time to notice Edward. A grunt was the only thing that acknowledged his presence. The first and last time she met him was at a party when he was turned into a salamander. It was awkward after that for he was naked and from what her eyes could judge, very well off. Athari rather didn't want to think of that moment as she fought the feeling in her belly.
"Duke, she's bad. Just by looking at her, her front leg is out of socket," Athari motioned with a hand toward the front of the mare. "and a two or three at least cracked ribs. I wager one might be broken." Her voice was grave as the mare lay placid on the grass as if only concentrating on breathing for now. The chamomile must have helped a little. "A little too late for that advice." Athari winked over at the man as she gently touched Kainda's neck. "I know of this one, though. Nailiah calls her my azrein counterpart. She'll be all right..." The amazon gently brushed her hand back and forth over the mare as gently as possible still assessing the damage. A few times, her fingertips brushed against the Duke's but her mind was out of the gutter at least for now. Helping this mare was all she cared about. She got on the other side of Kainda toward her front. "Kainda, I am going to attempt to pop your leg back into place...just hold on." She looked toward Ed and then Tide giving a nod as if asking for assistance to calm her even more. As everyone took their place, Athari gingerly felt around the leg in order to get a mental image of what she had to snap where. Once everyone was at the ready, Athari made a grunt. "Okay, Kainda at the cou-" CRACK! The female wasted no time in putting the leg back in place, her muscles flexing in order to achieve the strength necessary to fix the mare's out of socket leg. Athari was strong, but sometimes she even surprised herself.
Oh. It was the red haired, white mare with her she-devil as Kainda called Athari. The two seemed connected on a more primal level than Kainda liked, but having her here was a bit of a comfort. It was when suddenly the human grabbed at her that Kainda gave a whinny of surprise. Out of instinct, she slammed her mouth down in an attempt to get fingers but only succeeded in grabbing air and swallowing something foul. Athari would hear from her! The mare reached toward Tide more for comfort than anything as she gave a grunt just about wanting to send the human away. But then she heard wing beats and the sound of unnatural hooves. Had the Duke come? It figured Tide would call for him, the baby! And where had Nailiah gone? Something about her children? Oh no! Tempest and Kai would have a fit! She must reach them somehow! However, Kainda's mind became a little muggy as her body start to feel the effects of...whatever she swallowed. It dulled the pain some and it was a little pleasing as her senses became groggy. What had that rascal done? Then she spoke. Something about her front leg? Kainda only opened her eyes for a moment but that moment was all it took as she felt a searing pain in her front limb. She whinnied loudly attempting to roll and kick, but there was a weight on her preventing her from moving. She snorted and brayed out her frustration obviously being heard by any that was nearby.
Athari took a breath brushing her bangs back from her face. It would have been nasty if there weren't those around to help keep her down. The amazon looked up noticing how dark it was becoming. She turned to Ed in the rapidly setting sunlight. "We're going to need light soon. And we're going to need water. A lot of it. She needs her wounds cleaned. Is there any sort of pool nearby we can get her to?" Athari looked from Ed to Tide figuring he may be better at the area than his human friend.

"The lake is not far from here, it will have cleaner water then my pond would." Tide said, He nosed his mate with concern. Her cry at the resettling of her leg had nearly torn him apart, it was his heart laying on the ground caked in blood.
Edward was just happy he wasn't the one who had to set the leg, Kainda would never like him after that. "Ill get Taw to bring a torch, it will be easier for him to carry then Sky and he is still back there. I do have a cloth once we get water I'll also start a fire so we can heat the water."

Athari gave a quick nod looking down at the mare. Her breathing seemed to steady as her body digested more of the chamomile. She stood up stretched her frame for a moment looking toward the mare's mate with concern. "I am sorry..I didn't mean to induce any more pain." Her mouth quirked a little to show her genuine feelings then turned toward Edward with a nod. "Whenever you're ready, Duke." The girl was ready as she then crouched back down brushing the hair from Kainda's eyes before adjusting her frame in order to help lift Kainda onto the stallion. "Tide do you think you can help me carry her to the lake while Ed prepares with Taw? I'm pretty good at seeing in the dark, but I may need you to lead." Her mouth quirked as Kainda gave a gentle snort seemingly pacified for now.

Ed bent too and whispered some soothing nothings to the very drugged and unimpressed mare.
Tide nodded his accent as his dear mate was placed upon his back. He walked to the lake, trying to keep Kainda steady and keeping his walk as smooth as possible. "I would carry you forever Kainda but I think you would get pissed off and want to walk eventually."
Taw came presently and Edward left to gather stuff and start fires.
Tide reached the lake and Edward returned to help lift Kainda off his broad shoulders. Tide grunted in his own pain as he knew the movement would hurt Kainda more. But at least now they could clense her wounds, no doubt the fiend who had ravaged her had had dirty hooves.

Athari felt the tremors and gentle whines and snort coming from Kainda. Even though she was drugged, she was still hurting. The human female couldn't imagine the kind of pain the mare was in. She kept steady pace with the stallion managing to hold on almost as much of the weight as he. At Tide's comment, Athari giggled a little to which she heard Kainda grumble and possibly cuss him for his teasing. But out of the corner of Athari's eye, she could see the mare smiling a little. Was it because she was drugged or was it because she felt safe at home? The human could only wonder.
As they reached the lake, she took Kainda from Tide and with Ed's help, moved her toward the semi-bank. This was easier as Athari kept Kainda's head afloat. The mare slightly moved her legs a little surprised at the sudden water about her. Immediately, from the light of the fire, Athari could see that the water began running red with the mare's blood. The wounds would probably sting, but the water was cleansing and needed. "Tide, come hither and help hold her up would you?" Athari asked moving only when Tide was there so that she could wash the mare's body and wounds. The human girl shivered a little in the water for she was dressed in her usual garb - mostly nothing save her loincloth bands around her breasts and about her hips. After one side was treated, Athari gave the signal and they rolled Kainda so they could dress and clean her other side. At this point, one of Athari's hands was placed on the mare's lower belly - and she felt something move. Her face went white as she continued to move and rub her palm against the swollen mid-section of the mare. Why hadn't they noticed before?! Athari tried to compose herself only wanting to give the news when they were done. But there was a knot in her throat the whole entire time. Her heart was beating frantically in fear for not only the mare but what grew within her. "Ed? Are the bandages ready?" Athari called toward the Duke. It was about time to move the mare back in so that they could start dressing her wounds properly.

Ed had the bandages all rolled and ready to apply. "Yes, and there is a nice grassy spot right here for her to rest while we do so." Ed patted Tide, he knew the stallion was still worried even though he tried to hide it for Kainda's sake.
They moved the mare out of the water in a coreographed style almost dancing with her so as not to jar the jangled female further. They propped her up between Tide and Taw for a moment to wrapped bandages about her, then let her down to rest. "What do you think Athari? How long will the drugs last?" Ed stroked Kainda's face hoping it was somewhat more calming then Tide's drooling over her.
