The water was high. Much higher than it had been last night when she'd stopped just short of the river to sleep. Zayul paced before it. She wanted to cross, but afraid the flow was much too strong for her. So instead she paced back and forth along the bank. If she couldn't swim it now she'd either have to walk extra or wait for it to go down. neither thought appealed to the young female. She sighed and sat down.

"Well this is just stupid." Zayul grumbled to herself. Why couldn't it have waited? Because rivers didn't wait for her, she answered herself. She cast one more glance at the river then made her decision. It would be wise to use this time to hunt, get herself well fed and rested. The rest will do me good, she thought. She had spent a lot of time traveling since she'd left her family.

User Image Roshan'Parveneh padded along, lost in his thoughts for a few moments. He had had some new and interesting things in his head lately. He had not been bothering to think about his family or his banu hunt for so long, and now it seemed like these two subjects haunted his thoughts more often than not. The bright male was giving a lot of thought to what his family might be up to and how they probably felt about his not returning yet. On top of that was the fact that he could not return until he found a banu, and he had no desire to find one yet. What was he going to do about these bothersome thoughts?

It was not helping Roshan to be haunted by guilt over something he had no desire to change. Yes, eventually he figured he would find a banu and return, but he wanted to enjoy the journey to that point and not worry about the destination! He was happier when he did not think about his family and their expectations, and it bothered him that they were haunting his thoughts and bringing him down. Thoughts of his family should have been pleasant not bothersome. The male almost missed the female that he had come up on. "Good morning, miss."

There should have been absolutely no way she could miss the bright lion that approached her by all rights. Zayul scolded herself for letting him get so close without noticing him. It wasn't like he could hide easily with that bright blue coat. She blinked at him then bobbed her head.

"Hullo. If you're hoping to cross, the river is quite high and fast right now. Unless you want to risk your life to cross here, you should wait." Any fool could see that. She was just trying to be a bit helpful. Why should she do that? Zayul gave a shrug to herself. Either he'd take the advice or not. She rose to her feet and gave him another bob of her head. Her mind already dismissing him and moving on. Right now she wanted to go see what the local prey held in the way of a good meal.

Roshan suspected he had seen hints of the female's disappointment. He was not sure, but it had seemed that way to him. The question then was what was she disappointed about? Was it he? Perhaps she was expecting someone and he had inadvertently gotten her hopes up only to be dashed? It was always a possibility, but he hoped that was not so. He hated the idea of being the cause of any kind of harm to someone so pretty, even if the harm was only emotional in nature. He really hoped that idea was not correct.

Roshan looked at the river and nodded. "I think only a water lizard would test those waters right now. I thank you for pointing this out... I had not taken the time to look before." The male smiled at the female and tried to make it charming. He really just came off as a bit of a dork, especially when his stomach rumbled. "Hmm, I think I know what I will be doing while waiting to cross... perhaps you would like to join me for a hunt? It always is easier with more than one." It could not hurt to offer could it? Besides, if she said no, he could still find something to hunt.

She was pleased that she'd spared the lion from stupidly trying to cross the river. "Don't step before you look." Maybe he'd learn a bit from this, or maybe not. It wasn't her place to really teach him. Zayul was sure he could generally take care of himself.

The hybrid gave a giggle as his stomach rumbled and hers gave an answering gurgle. "I was just about to go hunting myself. You're right, two is easier than alone, so I will join you." She was hoping for some unexpected windfall from this. While she had been planning on going after smaller game this changed things. With a large lion backing her it opened up game she might not consider normally. "Lead on sir."

Roshan was a bit ashamed of his stomach interrupting the conversation, but he hid that well enough behind his offer of hunting. The giggle from the female had almost made him blush, but when her stomach did the same, it had really eased his mind a bit. He was going to be grateful for the help hunting, he was sure, as the terrain recently had not offered good enough hiding spots for sneaking right up on something big enough to really last long as a meal. He hated wasting energy going after multiple little things if he could avoid it, and this female looked fast enough to chase something fairly big, like an antelope or a gazelle, his way.

Roshan nodded to the female. "Yes, it does help to look before one steps. I should not be so distracted." He grinned at his timing on asking about hunting. "Well, if you were just headed that way, it makes this a perfect time for both of us. How are you at chasing things? I must admit I am better at tackling than actually chasing them down." The male wondered if he could find a nice spot for the female to chase something past him and just tackle it. It would be such a smooth hunt if they could manage it.

Zayul was pleasantly surprised when he took her bit of advice to heart. She wouldn't have been surprised if he had been offended and insulted by the advice, and denied any such act he might have been about to do. It seemed good fortune that both of them had the same idea while they waited for the river to drop. Her ears flicked as he asked about her chasing skills. She had perfected the technique by hunting hares. They were fast with incredible turning skills.

Now she viewed the larger lion in a new light. Noting his bulk and muscles. His bright colors would make it equally hard for him to sneak up on a herdbeast as it should have been her. Zayul could see it though. The lion laying in a small gully waiting for something big to run by. A slow grin spread across her face. "Oh I imagine I could get something running and steer it toward you. C'mon, lets find you some place to hide."

With her mind made up, Zayul set right to work. The faster she got him into position, the faster she could start looking for something big to scare his way, the faster he could tackle it, and then they could eat. "Name's Zayul Tain. I can give a shout when we're getting close to you, so you know." She had no doubt that he would be able to hear them coming too. It never hurt to have a back up just in case.

As she moved, her two-colored eyes scanned the surrounding area for possible prey. Zayul was determined to find them something big enough for them both. She was confident the male would be able to take down anything she could find and chase; all she had to do was get it to him. Sounded easy enough. A shadow between two low mounds caught her attention. "There. That looks like a good spot." The female moved to the top of one mound to survey the lands and possible prey items while the male got himself hidden.

Roshan appreciated the female's good sense in helping him find a place to hide so that he can tackle something big that she chases to him. It would not have done either of them any good to have him try to chase something and her tackle since they likely would have only gotten much smaller game, and he was much better at surprise pounce than at chasing. "I thank you for the consideration... I really am much better at being the muscle than the speed." He was very much reminded how his mother and sisters had always chuckled at his lack of speed even for a lion. This female would put them to shame, he was sure. "I am Roshan'Parveneh."

Roshan had noticed how streamlined she looked compared to most felines, but slightly bulkier than a cheetah. She was probably a hybrid was what he figured, but he had never see a hybrid like her. She did not look like a leopon or a Cheeton to him. Perhaps she was a Leotah? He had heard of such things, but never seen one since his pride was lion dominated and thus most hybrids were sired by lions with other felines rather than of two non-lion parents. He would have to contemplate that later, though. For now he had a hiding spot to get into.

Roshan settled himself into the hiding spot and made sure he could see and hear around him decently. All seemed well with this spot, so it would do. "I will watch and I will listen for you. I do hope you are not too squeamish with watching a lion tackle prey. It might be bloodier than some others would do. I apologize in advance." He hoped he would not have a partner that did not like overly bloody kills. It was hard to NOT make a big mess when barrelling something over from the side and trying to kill it before it could nail you with a hoof.

Behind her she sensed him getting settled. Zayul gave a small nod, "we all have our specialities. Combined we can succeed where alone we'd fail. It's a pleasure to meet you Roshan." She flicked her ear, meaning what she said. She rather liked him. Confident in what he could do, and able to just say it. He could admit what he didn't do well.

Her attention turned away from her hunting partner and to the hunt. From her small mount she had a fair view of the lands. There was a couple places in her mind to avoid, and if all possible keep any prey away from there too. Zayul let her eyes sweep and focus upon possible prey. She spotted several small herds of antelope and gazelles. Those were normally the biggest size she'd consider for herself. A small one would make a nice meal without too many leftover scaps. However, that wouldn't work for them. Her eyes kept going. Off to one side there was an elephant and a group of giraffes.

"Good. I'll see you soon." She cast a glance back at him. "As long as you bring it down, I don't care how." The female gave a sharp nod, to show her confidence in him. "Wait here. I won't be long." Zayul rose gracefully to her feet and slinked off. With the male came the realization that he opened real big game opportunities. She had every intention of fullfilling that. Now she focused utterly on her job. Tracking and stalking. She wanted to get close, but not as close as if she was actually hunting alone. Close enough that the prey spooked instead of holding its ground.

Once she could get it running, steering would be easy. The female peeked slightly above the grasses that were her cover. The prey hadn't moved much as she made her way over. She stopped and watched for a moment; picking her target. Her breathing was slow and steady. Two different colored eyes were the only thing moving. Soon the unfortunate animal was targeted. Zayul moved herself into position. Wait, wait, wait. Her hauntches wiggled just ever so slightly. The instant it felt right, the young hybrid left her hiding spot like a shot.

She flashed her white coat to get the animal's attention as she used her cheetah speed to close the distance. If she got close enough, she would harry the beast with fang and claw. Zayul gave a growl and a swipe at the nearest beast, though it wasn't her target, to get the herd moving. As the animals turned to flee, she focused in on her chosen prey. Running up behind it and anticipating which way it would try to bolt to head it off and turn it down the path she wanted it to take. It seemed like they had been running half the day. Her muscles strained, and her breath came in gasps. Finally she spotted the landmark that meant the end of the chase. With a final effort she turned the wildebeast to run past the small mounds.

"Now!" Zayul shouted as she pulled up, out of breath.

Roshan waited in near silence for the female after she left him. He knew what he had to do. He would keep quiet and hide so that he did not spook any prey that might be nearby and let her do the rest for now. Doing anything while she was working was just going to harm them both really. The male lion kept his ears perked for any sign of the female chasing something, and of course kept watch from his little hole. He did not want to be caught unprepared, so he even got his crouch ready and stayed tensed for when he would have to leap into action. He figured that a large gazelle or large antelope was likely to be all the female could chase his way, but even so he would take it down and they could look into something else later if need be.

Roshan was not expecting to see a wildebeest running by and he started out to catch it before even registering what was going on. He could have been screwing up someone else's hunt, but a wildebeest was too good an opportunity to pass up if he could get it. He was already clearing his cover when he heard the female call to him, and the lion had the good sense to spare a moment to be grateful that he was going after THEIR intended meal. She certainly was good at chasing, and he was going to enjoy taking down this beast. He did not get much more time to think before he was on it.

Roshan had angled himself so that he hit the creature almost straight in the side as it ran forward. His leap brought him to shoulder height when he hit and he knocked the wildebeest over. Both he and the beast when skidding. He managed to get his claws in and hold on, but as soon as they came to a stop he made sure to push his back paws on the ground to get himself completely on top of the thrashing creature and away from it's hooves. He was a little late and did manage to get a graze on his one leg, but even so it was not much of an injury. He tore out the beast's throat to kill it, making a rather bloody mess since he had already raked it over with his claws to get it pinned.

Fin I think.

She could only stand and pant as she watched an eye blinding lion jump out from his hiding spot and tackle the wildebeast. Zayul was impressed that he had almost no difficulty in pulling it down. She trotted over in time to see him finish it off. It made her grateful that she wasn't going to have to suffocate it.

"Excellent catch! Shall we feast?"
