Ah, winter was coming. Well, fall first, but winter was a heck of a lot closer than it was earlier.

The heavy thunderstorms and missing power had made Uuni feel cramped, but soon there would be cold and snow and chill. The streets would have a different sort of loudness to them.

In the mean time, the citizens of Destiny City were scrambling to make the most out of their end-of-summer time. There was a street fair, in fact, to announce the beginning of autumn and the end of the hot, unbearable humid summer.

They were lined up all along second street and into the park. Traffic was diverted, late commuters cursing the day anyone decided to enjoy themselves in a temporary shade-structure. But, most importantly, it was free. There were food stands, political benches, strange wares, and those strange games that only seemed like a good idea after about three overly priced beers and a dare. Or, you know, if you were under the age of nineteen. Or you were Uuni.

The idea was relatively simple: There were small, plastic horses (ugh, horses, couldn't they pick a tiger or something else?) attached to a miniature track with a slit carved through it. Each player was given a water gun with enough force to move the horse maybe a half inch. If you could move the horse all the way around the track before time ran out, you won a prize. But no one cared about the giant stuffed animals, or the whoopie cushions. No, it was really about getting further than the person you were playing against. And since repeatedly pressing a flimsy trigger on a flimsy watergun did not take any particular strength or talent, Uuni thought she might actually be halfway decent at the game.

She waited patiently for a partner (which amazingly didn't take long). And, well, hopefully they were as much fun as they looked.

"Wanna make a bet out of this?" she asked, glancing to her right and passing her best grin.

Fall was always one of Vythica's favorite seasons. In all truth, there wasn't a season she didn't like. Each had their pros and cons, but still they had some reason to be enjoyable.

With it beginning to cool down and the trees changing colors, it became a lot easier to enjoy being outside without having to head for shade too soon after wards.

The coolness and the street fair had drawn her out today. Passing up an afternoon of studying for a little fun time. She had hoped to meet some of her friends here after giving them all a couple of calls but no luck. So it seemed she was on her own for the day, but even so she could still have a good time. Spending most of her time at the little shop booths that were set up here and there. It gave her a good excuse to get in her money spending fix and pick up some pretty neat stuff that you wouldn't find in the local retail stores.

After a bit of shopping and a bunch of food sampling, she'd come to one of the game stands. It didn't look like anything special but she was never one to turn down having a little bit of fun. Settling down her over-sized bag, Vyth stepped up to the counter where the water pistols were attached. A small smirk came to her lips as the girl beside her spoke. "Alright. What are the terms?" She wasn't one to turn down a challenge of any sort. Besides, it was just a friendly wager wasn't it?

Uuni felt inward victory which outwardly propagated as a continued smile. As she spoke, she gestured with the squirt gun which was already slowly dripping water out its end.

"I win," she decided to start with. "You buy me lunch." And she didn't mean lunch here, oh no. She already had a place scouted across the way. Way better than a corn dog, or garlic fries. Not that those weren't delicious, but why waste a five-dollar lunch on fries when she could get a gourmet burger?

"And if you win. . . " Uuni paused, as if picking carefully over potential options. "I'll complete one dare of your choice." Wait. That could go badly. "That won't get me arrested." There. You never knew with people. They had serious cases of schadenfreude.

Lunch if the girl wins. A dare if she won.

Vythica didn't really see that as an equal wager but whatever. If she lost it would only cost her a bit of money. If this girl lost it might cost her a bit of integrity. And she honestly didn't really worry too much about the possibility of loosing a bit of cash to a game.

s**t, she could probably go for a good lunch than just the sampling of food she had eaten so far anyhow and she wouldn't of minded a bit of company. Besides, if this girl was wagering lunch she was probably hungry. Maybe she had no cash. Or she was just a free loader. Either way it didn't matter, a challenge had been made and she had accepted.

Grasping the squirt gun in her hand, she closed one eye and pointed it at Uuni. "Alright. You're on. No backing out now if you loose."

((We can pick winner however you'd like! Either, by roll or you can just choose. I have no preference.))

All three, to be most specific. Maybe she had some cash, but she sure as heck wasn't spending that here.

Uuni blinked at the bright barrel directed at her person. "I'm choosing where we eat," she decided to add on, just to make sure that it was very clear.

"But," Uuni said, with a quick glance to the race track. "I'm pretty sure your horse has a few pounds on mine." They were, for all intensive purposes, the same exact model of plastic save for the colors which distinguished them.

Still, it was mostly a distraction. "Go." She hit the botton between them to start the timer, and was immediately aiming a stream of water towards the plastic abomination.

It shot forward and then came to a sudden halt as if rebelling at the very idea. Uuni's brows furrowed and she took another shot. Given the lack of movement from the toy and the spot of water on the table, Uuni decided she really needed to work on her aim.

That was certainly fine with her. Vyth wasn't entirely picky on what or where to eat. So if this girl wanted to choose she could. Besides, it would be weird if she didn't pick when her prize was lunch anyhow. She figured the girl already had a place in mind.

Eyeballing the horses, she merely smiled with a light shake of her head. She knew the horses were all the same so the distraction tactic was kind of moot. But oh well, if this girl wanted to try and throw her off she could feel free.

When the button was hit she quickly turned, pulling the trigger on her gun. Her little horse racing across the track. It was certainly a challenge to keep the stream of water on target a couple of times. Every now and again she would check on Uuni's hose only to notice that it had stopped moving. She moved her stream of water just a little bit so that her horse stopped moving. "Ahhhhh come on! Get moving!" Vyth called to her horse, crinkling her brow as she moved the water stream around a little. Missing the target she needed to hit to get it moving again.

So maybe she might be purposefully loosing the game.

After she found a rhythm and finally aligned the darn pistol (who designed these things?), Uuni found she made a decent run of it.

All of her opponent's dramatic screaming went unnoticed. Uuni had learned to tune out drama, yelling, and overexcited yips. Usually, the information being screamed was hardly pertinent. All Uuni needed to learn was carried in the tone, and at this point in time, that tone said oh no, i'm losing.

The buzzer sounded, and Uuni glanced over to the other track. Neither of them had made it to the finish line, of course, but her horse was certainly closer to it.

Uuni triumphantly re-holstered the water pistol.

"Siuo." Perhaps she shouldn't have started the sentence with the name of the restaurant, given she now sounded like she was about to start a speech in a foreign language. "It's on the corner of eighth and K."

-

It definitely wasn't hamburgers. No, she had made a brilliant change to something far more expensive, way more delicious. It was like an early present.

The restaurant's temporary building space had been modified, temple-style woodwork branching out from its edges.

Its gold sign read, "死魚", and Uuni explained, content, that the first symbol was "Dead" and the second was "Fish". Someone else had told her before, but Uuni was perfectly okay with her eating-companion assuming she spoke Japanese.

Ah well, at least it was a semi-decent run. She smiled as Uuni's horse was certainly ahead of her's. But they never said the horses had to cross the finish line either.

Placing the pistol back, she grabbed her bag and slung it across her shoulders. "Siou..." She tried her best to pronounce it properly. "Alright then lets go."

-

Vyth had never been to this restaraunt before. Probably because she didn't read Japanese and no one she knew had ever mentioned this place. It looked pretty neat none the less.

Then Uuni explained what the symbols meant. "Dead...Fish. Huh." She probably would have preferred a place that she could actually read the sign of, but well it wasn't her choice in the matter anyhow. As for it being expensive, Vyth had probably eaten at places far more fancy and pricier than this in her days. She raised an eyebrow at the golden sign. Well, she hoped the fish were dead. And that the place didn't smell like dead fish. "Lead on."

The brunette did not bother to explain. The inside smelled of fire, soy, and ginger. There were tables, or there were booths lined up along in front of the chefs.

When a server came to seat them, Uuni simply waggled two fingers as opposed to talking. The message was received easily enough and they found themselves at a table with a view of both the hot stoves and the street outside.

If her guest hadn't figured it out yet, the menu would reveal that the main theme was sushi, with a few other dishes for the haters of raw fish.

"I'm Uuni, by the way," she revealed as she took her seat. If this girl was buying her lunch, giving a name certainly wasn't going to hurt. "So, how long have you been in this city?" Also known as the: will you make a useful person to keep in touch with question.

Apparently her little lunch friend frequented this place a bit. Or else she was just really self confident. If the two finger waggle was any bit of an indication. It was certainly impressive for sure.

When they were shown a table, Vyth took a seat. Settling her bag next to her chair before flipping through the menu. She had never tried sushi before surprisingly but a first time for everything right?

Pale blue eyes looked up from the menu as Uuni spoke. "Vythica van Dread. A pleasure, Uuni." Settling the menu down, she folded her hands on top of it. Giving the inside of the restaraunt a quick look over. "A little over fourteen years. My father moved me down here from New York when I was just a little girl. Yourself?"

Uuni waited to catch the punchline. The joke. She looked over the top of her menu at Vythica. The menu wobbled a bit.

No joke.

No accent, either, though. Ah, there was why. America was such a melting pot.

"How long has your family been in America?" Over fourteen years, obviously. Could have been generations, in theory. But she couldn't resist the idea that she might get to talk Dutch culture with someone else. Complain about upbringings, the food, the like.

"We moved to America from Heerenveen when I was six." Just in case Vythica had heard of it, Uuni added, "I'm not really into sports."

She flipped to another page in the menu. "Only been here a few months. Bummed a ride. Ride left. Now I'm kinda stuck." The regular problem. But, she sort of liked it here. It had flavor and a lot of diversity. Uuni was in no rush to leave.

"Ready?" Uuni's menu was tossed, closed onto the table. She was getting the oddest, most expensive sounding things she could. The kind of things she could only ever get when someone else was graciously paying. If she failed to eat all of it, she wouldn't feel guilty. Well, not really.

It felt like, to Vythica at least, that she spent a lot of her time talking about her family to other people. Where she was born, how long had they all been in America. Not that she minded. By now she pretty much had a decent grasp of an explanation that she could recite almost word for word.

"I guess it would vary. Relatives from a long time ago came and went from America. My parents were both born in Russia, Moscow and Omsk respectively, though as were my grandparents and great grandparents. So I can only assume its been a very long time since our side of the family had stepped foot on American soil." She glanced to the side as a waitress passed by before looking back to Uuni. "Skipping to the end, three years after my parents were married my father began climbing up the ladder fast. He came to America a head of my mother about..." Vyth stopped to think, trying to remember the details. "A few years before I was born. So really my father was the first in a very long time to be here in this country."

A grin came to her lips at Uuni's sports comment. "Heerenveen, that is in the Netherlands yes?"

She nodded. Not too sure as to if she would enjoy what she was about to order, but hey first time for everything one supposed.

With their food ordered, Uuni flopped back into her chair and took the time to really give Vythica a once over. How far up the latter had her father climbed? Sounded like a good way to fall back down and break a leg, if you asked her. But, no one had.

"Yeaup. The land of ice. The weather's pretty cold, too." Uuni cast Vythica a lazy grin before leaning forwards to take a glass of plum wine she'd graciously taken upon herself to order. She was indulging a bit, okay?

She slid it across the table, just in case her guest wanted to try. If she was underage, well, no one was asking.

"I hope you like eel."

Because, when the food arrived, that was clearly what was wrapped cleanly around the rice rolls. Uuni poured a bowl of soy-based sauce, and offered Vythica a plate of wasabi and ginger. She'd probably want all of it, for her first time. Uuni herself loved to coat everything in ginger.

There was no meekness with the way she dove into her own food, using chopsticks, but still attempting to fit a whole roll into her mouth at once. It worked most of the time. It was a latent talent. She was too busy eating to talk much, not that she would have spilled her whole life story anyway.

"Well, Vyth," She'd have to find something better than that, but for now it would do, "It's been just hoppin'. I'm sure we'll run into each other again." It wasn't that big of a city.

"But, I'm gonna bounce. I've got things to do." People to do. A job to avoid. The usual. Uuni had no intention to stay for the potential, 'Well maybe you should pay for part of it' conversation of awkward.
PostPosted: Wed Oct 24, 2012 11:29 pm

"I would figure it to be cold. Being a land of ice and all." Vyth grinned as she poured herself a bit of wine. It wouldn't be the first time she'd tasted wine, nor certainly not the last. But since her money was going towards it she might as well drink some.

Even if she was under age since it was already there she doubted anyone would question her now anyhow.

She watched her lunch associate not so gracefully enjoying the eel wrapped rice rolls. Quirking an eyebrow just slightly as she took the place of wasabi and ginger. Opting for only a tiny bit of wasabi. She liked spicy but nothing too over powering.

"Yea, I'm sure we will Uuni. It was uh...nice having lunch with you." Though it sort of lacked in the conversation department it wasn't that big of a deal. She slipped the waitress her credit card and gave Uuni a wave as she waited for a receipt.

Well, at least she could say she wasn't hungry anymore anyhow. And perhaps Uuni was right in that they would run into each other again.
