http://dev.nabirds.org/Web/Tools/BoundingBox/pages/ - Is a crop tool to help a program identify birds. Basically you draw a box around the bird and hit submit.

http://www.allaboutbirds.org/labs/Applications/MMB/ACintro.aspx <- Quiz that helps the program Merlin identify birds.

Both are quite fun. The first link literally takes five seconds to complete. The second link is more time consuming as you get to pick colours and stuff.

Both are fun!

If you're a fan of birds, I find that their Facebook page is really interesting and I like their updates: https://www.facebook.com/cornellbirds

Aw, I like how there was an audio clip of how the bird sounds at the end of the second! I've seen hummingbirds but they are so shy around here, so I have never been up close to hear them, and have only seen them through windows because they won't come near if you are outside.

I kept getting errors on the second one, so I never actually finished it. I'll have to give it a go again.

I love the Cornell website, they have sounds for all the birds. I'll sometimes go through the list and play them all. Gets the cats all riled up. >:3

Oh this is great! It's a fantastic idea. My sister and I have gotten into bird watching recently since seeing "The Big Year" . I have trouble identifying them by sound though, since I'm new at bird watching. I used to keep count of the birds I used to see and their names (like Mimus polyglotus or Tiaris bicolor for example) or their common names (like the Greater Antillean Grackle) but I didn't write them down. I also don't know what their names are since people here call them by different names. redface

I do however think this is a great idea. Perhaps we could post the birds that we identify on a daily basis. Just in every day life. SO we can learn to identify them, interact with other Gaians who are interested in the subject, learn and just have fun.

I think it would be interesting to see the bird submissions since we all live in different parts of the world.

This of course is a suggestion. Let me know what you think of it. whee

:3 I love bird watching, but I don't go much farther than putting out food and watching from my window. That's impressive that you know the Latin names.

http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/browse/ac <- I'm assuming you're in North America if you have grackles, so this bird guided you may like.

I think that's a fantastic suggestion. Perhaps a new thread were we can post pictures of the birds we've seen. I have a trio of Stellar Jays that stop by often (usually heckling me to feed them). I'll let you start the thread if you want. <3

Sure I'll start the tread. I will need suggestions on editing and graphics to make it look nice. Under what area of the forums in the Guild should I start the thread?

I don't know all their Latin names. But it's best since the birds names can change according to the region or country your in. So whenever I can I identify the bird by it's Latin name. 3nodding

Feel free to make it in the main forum here. I won't be able to help in the graphics department unfortunately; my computer doesn't like to run any heavy programs. Fancy font colours it is! xD

Pirhan, check out the tread I created.... tell me what you think . whee
Suggestions on how to improve it are greatly welcomed and appreciated. I'll post the birds I've seen/heard today after you tell me what you think. 3nodding
