Being a married woman and trying to combine families made for quite an effort. Kyndall was trying to cope as best she might but there were adjustments to be made. She was happy to make them and told herself that this was only the natural next step in the process of combining their lives but there were so many things to try and get used to it was hard not to be daunted by it.
The first and foremost, namely, was that Kyndall had not lived with a man since her father and if that weren't enough now she was living with two and both the Darrow men were as set in their ways as the Rosen (formerly, in her case) women. But like the Brady Bunch this group had to somehow form a family and that meant trying to incorporate her ways to theirs and find a middle ground.
She started with one of the most important rooms in the house for her – the kitchen. It was appallingly organized and little used, under equipped. The only things that seemed to be well used were the microwave and coffee machine. She snorted a laugh; typical. She had known, though, that she wasn't marrying a gourmet which was good because she wasn't a gourmet chef. She just knew what she liked to cook and what was quick and easy to make.
Nothing was quick and easy in this kitchen.
Pots and pans were mixed with tupperware. Cooking utensils were across the room from the stove and the pantry probably hadn't seen organization since before Nathan came. Kyn rolled up her sleeves and got to work, delving into foreign territory to start making this room her own. Tony may not be pleased by it but in the end it was probably for the best. She'd be able to cook, he to eat, and the commingling of their lives would be a bit more complete.
She started with the pantry, clattering through canned goods and boxes and organizing them into something she could call orderly. She shook her head. His spices were sorely lacking and she'd need to go get some more. The canned goods were lined up according to what they were in categories and the boxes as well. She could find everything and after a quick tutorial Tony and Nathan would be able to as well. From here regular maintenance would be all that was required.
Then she tackled the bulk of the rest of it. The dishes seemed pretty well kept so she left those alone and went for the other things she'd be using regularly. Pots and pans got their own cupboard and baking dishes their own as well. Appliances lined the counters or were tucked away. Everything went where she needed it to be.
Then the entire room got a good scrubbing from top to bottom until it shone with cleanliness. She glowed when she was done, pleased with herself. In the end Kyndall rewarded herself with a glass of white wine and a nice veg out on the couch waiting for her husband to get home so she could show him his world turned upside down.
Next point of contention – their bathroom. 537

The master bathroom was the one room in the house she needed to call her own besides the kitchen. Of course she didn't think her previous career bachelor husband would understand that. The bathroom meant something to her. She spent a lot of time there in the morning and though it wasn't a big room she needed to call it somewhat hers. Integration was what it was about in marriage. She was easing herself in little by little so she didn't scare Tony but with some thing the change was too sweeping to be done in short spurts.
First she cleaned everything, wiping down the mirror and counter tops and scrubbing the floors. Once everything was s**c and span she pulled out a shelf she'd bought at the local hardware store and fastened it to the wall, lining her perfume along it. She thought it was a nice compromise keeping it out of his way and easily within her reach. And it even looked pretty, different colored bottles lined up against the wall with the sun to shine through them.
Then she put her cosmetics away and the different styling tools. If ever her husband was under any illusion that what she simply rolled out of bed looking composed and beautiful he'd be disabused of that notion now when he saw what she'd done. He always swore to her that was beautiful no matter the time or place but she knew better. She knew how much work it took to make her look the way she looked ninety nine percent of the time.
It wasn't pretty, anyway.
Once that was done she laid out some of the other things she'd gotten, spending a bit from her savings to do it. She bought a new rug for the bathroom and a matching set of towels for the small rings on the walls. These were the kind of small aesthetic things men did not pay attention to. There was no reason to as bachelors. And it wasn't that Tony didn't know about coordinating or making things look nice. He kept a clean and tidy house before she came along but he wasn't a woman and didn't care for these types of things.
“That's why he has me around. That's why he loves me.”
The emerald haired woman laughed. So far she felt like the entire family was doing a wonderful job merging together and becoming one. They were all adjusting to being a whole family instead of two smaller ones. She felt confident that this was the right thing for everyone. The more she felt this place was home the better she felt.
