Calixte wandered through the forest, taking in all of the greenery. After months of nothing but blue sky, dark ocean, and the bleached cream of dead wood beneath her feet, she was so ready to be among the trees again. They almost called to her; she felt very much like a homing pigeon as her instincts took her deeper into the forest. Her butterflies lead the way. As the shadows grew, their strange bioluminscence began to glow, lighting up the path. Though it was nearly midsummer here, the deepest parts of the forest seemed to be in a perpetual midnight - this, at least, she was accustomed to.

As she entered the darker parts of the forest, Calixte hummed a little tune under her breath. Having already met a skinwalker, she knew that the forests here might not have the same benevolence that they did in her homeland - if there were dark creatures lurking nearby, she might not have been able to tell. Nevertheless, for some reason, humming had always made her feel a bit better. Though she wasn't the greatest singer in the world (she was sure of that), Cali couldn't exactly dance: if she gave her position away by frolicking about in the woods, she'd have a quick end. Carrying on her way, Cali found that she had passed through one of the closer parts of the forest - in the distance, she could see sunbeams falling through the trees. She smiled, and paused in her tune. It had been far too long since she'd seen a sight like that. Oh, how she'd missed the forest.

He loved his daughters dearly, but sometimes one just needed time alone. It had only been a short while since he discovered he had two daughters, and it weighed heavily upon his heart that he had abandoned Anya when he should have stayed. The detective shook himself, what was past was past. He is now forming a relationship with his daughters, yes daughters, even if Nakita is fighting with him every step of the way. She continues to refer to him as the Sperm Donor; it still causes him to wince, but not quite as much as it did in the beginning.

Wystan closed his icy blue eyes and took in a deep breath, basking in the peacefulness of the woods. High in the branches above the birds would chirp and sing their greetings to each other and the branches would sway when they took flight into the sky. A smile appeared on his countenance, the world was truly a magnificent place. Other sounds came to the observant stallion as well, the soft tread of a larger creature making its way into the thicker part of the woods, where he now stood. The steps were quiet but a tad off, as if the creature was not confident on their hooves, paws, or whatever the creature possessed. Curious Wystan opened his eyes and searched the woods, trying to find a glimpse of the owner of the soft steps.

Cali passed into the little place where the sunbeams began to seep through the canopy and let one fall on her, completely bypassing the silent, grey figure standing nearby in the shade. The sun's warmth was different here than it had been on the boat and the beach; it was softer, filtered, rather than baking and burning. She soaked it up. Soon, though, she drew back into the darkness - while she was far from being meek, she still had to keep her cover until she knew the land better. Otherwise, she might become food for something fiercer than Einar the skinwalker.

Standing there, gazing into the sunlight and off into the middle distance, Calixte's thought began to wander... And they wandered all the way back to her homeland. She was surprised when she found that she didn't miss it; maybe she had been ready to move on. Her forest had grown considerably over the years, after all. Maybe she had wanted to leave, and her love had given her the opportunity. As she had yet to find him, however, maybe it wasn't meant to be. After all, the gods could only be so merciful - she had gotten off that ship alive, hadn't she?

Cali sighed. It had been a long day; it couldn't have been more than four or five hours since she'd stepped out of the jollyboat and onto the slippery sands of the shore. Deciding it was high time for a nap, she found a small copse to slip into and laid down among the roots. While not the most comfortable sleeping place, it provided shelter, and that was all that mattered.

His ears listened intently for the sound of the hooves to get closer to his spot, but they seemed to be moving farther away from him, missing the glen in which he stood. Did who ever walk in the woods sense his presence and believe him to be a threat? Or was it just aimless wanderings that carried the hoof falls away from the curious detective? Doing what detectives do best, Wystan began to follow the sound, his interest peeked, what better way to spend some alone time than solving a curious case? There was none other.

Silently the detective began to follow the direction of the hoof falls, his own hooves barely making a sound in the dense woods. His keen blue eyes observing the details of his surroundings. It was not long before he caught a glimpse of the being. The owner of the soft tread falls was a mare who appeared to match the forest or to be one with the greenery. Her mane was made up of leaves and her ears where long green extensions of her head that Wystan had never seen before on a soquili. Blue butterflies fluttered around her head and did not appear to want to leave the mare’s side. As he watched the mare as she laid down among the roots of the tree, appearing exhausted. Even though he was curious, the stallion left the mare to her nap. He would return soon, after the sun had made its way more across the sky to ask the mare the questions that were buzzing in his head.

An hour or so passed and he returned to the spot, unsure if the mare was still occupying the copse or had left the woods all together. He could always track her if she left the woods, but he could not spare that much time now that he had two young harpy fillies to take care of.

Calixte awoke abruptly among the roots and moss - she must have dozed off at some point, for she didn't remember when she'd fallen asleep. Upon opening her bright eyes, she noticed a marked absence - her butterflies had disappeared. Cooing softly to them, Cali stood, instantly aware of the stiffness in her joints. Being stuck on a ship with only so far to pace had obviously taken its toll on her flexibility. She wove her way out of the stand of trees, listening hard for the slight flapping of the tribe's wings. The only thing she heard was the whisper of the forest, even quieter than usual.

Looking up from the ground when she found her way into the open woods again, Cali saw a towering figure in front of her - a pale gray being with four wings. Unsure whether it was friend or foe, and eyes still bleary from her nap, Cali decided that greeting it would be the best option. "Hello," she said, taking a closer look and discovering that the being's masculine build was that of another soquili - one with two sets of wings and red and black hair. Surely he was a cousin of Pegasus, or some angelic creature? Whether or not he was, he wasn't quite large enough to fill her entire field of vision - and looking past him, she saw her butterflies fluttering happily. Apparently, he wasn't bad, because if he was, they would be cowering in her hair. Smiling at him, she said, "May I help you?"
