She was wandering. Wandering from place to place, doing what work she could find, and taking on tasks that needed doing. It was laborious, slow work, but it was clean work, good work, and best of all, it wasn’t in the tavern she’d grown up in. She was given an offer though. Join up with a performing troupe as a cook and head east. It was small pay, but she would get a contract and a promise of a bonus at the road’s end. And end away from her old life. Perfect to the ex tavern wench and cutpurse. Plus traveling, she could get a few coins from places with fewer people to risk notice.

Eris was supportive, if worried. Merry was taking a risk still cutting purses, but her worry for her chosen was outweighed by her curiosity. They had never been that far east and to go so far might be the fresh start they needed. Approval from Eris, Merry had taken the contract to be a cook, even if she wouldn’ be making anything fancy. They just needed someone who could managed a bunch of people and keep them fed. Something her tavern life had taught her at the very least. The troupe was full of colorful individuals but as far as she knew no one else had a deer for a companion.
Some men had already taken to calling her a wide eyed doe.

She’d show them how much a doe could do if they ever gave her any trouble that was for sure.
