When Yin had important life events happen...he generally had to tell someone.
And right now that closest person he could go to was Miss Danny. They had sparred the last time they had seen each other, so he had not had a chance to tell her about becoming a hob like her. Or other things, but maybe he did not need to talk about that.
Either way, he had bothered to go to the creepeteria and purchase a bag of...something. He would never eat it do she probably would. And then he made his way to her delightfully warm dorm room, rapping on the door. As he waited he even shifted his wings away so they might not bother her.

Danny just groaned from somewhere inside the room.
"YIN IT IS ALWAYS OPEN OH MY JACK JUST COME IN ALREADY."

Yin opened the door, not all that surprised at her response but he would still never just walk in on her.
"Greetings Miss Danny. I um...brought you something?" Creeper Jacks or something like that. There was supposedly a prize inside, and he held it out for her.

Danny made all the grabby hands. "Aww sweet dude. Thanks!"
She waited expectantly for the jacks to come flying at her and said, "What's up?"

"You are welcome Miss Danny," Yin said, walking closer before lightly tossing over the bag.
"I um...I did not get to speak with you much during our spar but I have news?" He fidgeted slightly.

"Uhhh neat. What's the news?" Her claws were already tearing through the bag and dumping its contents into her mouth.
She noticed Yin looking somewhat uncomfortable and said, "Too hot? I can turn it down ..." She really hated turning the temperature down, but with all of her friends disliking the obtuse amounts of heat she required, she'd eventually learned that she just had to offer it whether she liked it or not.

"Oh no, not too hot! Your room is rather pleasant really." Sometimes it was nice to be in a toasty environment, and with his skin not fully humanoid flesh he really did not even sweat much.
"Um...I thought that perhaps you would like to know...I moved up a year in my education..." Or, to put it simply, "I am a hob now."

"YIN!" Danny squealed, off the bed in a matter of moments and flinging herself into his arms. Or onto his arms. Or really just throwing all of her weight in his general direction.
Smothering. Yes, that was the word to use. "I'M SO PROUD OF YOU!!"

Yin stumbled backwards a step but caught her weight, even though she was crushing one of his arms to his chest awkwardly.

She was proud of him, and it was a good feeling. "Thank you Miss Danny."

Danny put her hands on either of his cheeks, claws scratching the scales lightly. "You are gonna be the best mantis in the whole wide world," she assured him, patting his cheek.

It was a good thing Miss Danny was right there, because Yin sagged against her as her words sunk in, knees weak. Best mantis in the whole wide world?

Danny's hands fell down, resting her forearms on his shoulders while her fingers laced together behind his head. It would have been rather intimate if Yin wasn't so dang short.
"Yeah, but it was hard work! Anddddd you did it!" she said. "But you're still my um ... underling! Yeah! 'Cause I'm gonna graduate soon." A sad look crossed her face.

It might not have been too intimate for Miss Danny, but Yin was still flustered. Really flustered. He might have been contemplating escape routes.
Wait...her underling? "You will?" Suddenly that was all that was important. Miss Danny was going to graduate, and who knew what she would do, where she would go, if he would ever get to see her again..."But what will you do after you leave?" For that matter...what would he do?

Danny frowned deeper, sagging more heavily on his figure. "I ... don't know," she said, one hand coming to rub the back of her neck as her eyes cast downwards. She let go of Yin and kicked a foot back.
She really didn't know. Danny had never been good at much of anything except for fidgeting and general restlessness, which was hardly a career. Otherwise she'd have job offers up the wazoo.
"I guess I'll just ... find a place to stay and a job or something." She really hadn't thought far ahead; people always did that for her. "I'll come back and visit though!" she said, smiling. "I mean, I still gotta visit Rikki ..." Oh Jack, she hadn't even thought about that. What about visiting her boilfriend late at night? What about lazy weekends with Roch? "You'll uh ... look out for him, right?"
... Well Yin was the more advanced student!

That was almost a relief. Yin had no idea what he would do, so hearing that he was not alone in that was actually rather nice. He did not like to see her frowning though. His friends were supposed to be happy.
"I will be glad to see you," he assured her. Even if her reason was primarily to see Rikki. "And of course I shall look after Rikki for you, someone has to make sure he is doing fine, is that not correct?"
Oh, he would take care of Rikki alright.
