He'd done some thinking. Sure it hadn't seemed like it, what with him runnin' around the festival for the past few days, but he had. And while he had sort of explained things to Amphi--he really needed to explain them to Danny. Whether she understood or not, well, that was another matter.
Either way he was standing at his best friend's door, unzipping his vest in order to go in.
"Oye! Danny, y'here?" he asked as he headed inside. He didn't bother knocking--they never did.

She hadn't been waiting for him, but as soon as Roch called for her, she popped out from behind the kitchen wall and had her arms around him.
Definitely hadn't been waiting for him.
"Roooooooch!" she squealed, burying her nose in his neck as she squeezed him into a life-sucking hug, legs wrapped around his waist. Her entire weight was on this poor, poor boil.
This was normal.

"Hey, you're breakin' my spine, Danny!" he said with a laugh, awkwardly patting her on the back. He still wasn't good with hugs, okay? At least, not really. "Y'got some time? I thought we could find someplace t'talk," he said.
Someplace that wasn't close to a hundred degrees, he added silently, already starting to sweat. He really had never gotten accustomed to her room, even with as long as they'd been friends. "Like... I dunno, somewhere nobody else is?"

"Mmmm okay," Danny said, completely ignoring all of the homework she was supposed to be doing. Well, homework that was due two weeks ago. She probably wasn't going to pass, really. No biggie.
Wiggling off Roch, she walked out the door, tailing bopping in time with her steps. "Why d'you wanna be alone though?" she asked, "You're not tryin' to do weird stuff, are you?" Danny squinted at him and the smiled goofily, punching his arm and laughing. Roch and her doing weird stuff.
Ha.

It startled a laugh out of him. "Yeah, right!" he hooted. "Nah, I just wanna talk. I guess my room would do," he said, shoving his hands into his pockets and heading out of her room. Then he let out a sigh of relief. "Jack your room is hot," he said, shaking his head as he started out of the dorm.

"Just admit you like me! We'll get married and have a billion scarelings," Danny teased. Her time at Amityville had at least matured her to the point where she didn't cry cooties at the sight of Roch. It was still gross, and she still had an instinctive cringe when Amphi mentioned any sort of intimacy, but at least she could crack jokes with him. Maturity.
She shook her head and said, "Your room's got bulldogs and rocks. Let's go behind Breck's shack or something I dunno." Their poor groundskeeper, always getting the rebel kids hanging out around his shack. "I wanna be outside!" she added enthusiastically.

"Alright," Roch said, changing his direction as they got outside and heading for the place in question. He'd never actually BEEN in Breck's Shack, he thought as he looked at it. Oh well. He dropped down next to the wall, leaning back on it and waiting for Danny to decide where she wanted to be.
"Y'know... that trip I went on?" he asked. "I had a reason."

"I went t'see Fang," he said quietly, pushing her off of his lap--there was always the chance someone would walk past and start some stupid rumor. "Y'know, one of the guys that raised me. He's a werewolf... he's a gang leader," he said. "See... he had a really big say in my life. He told me what t'steal, who t'trust, what not t'do... Dad, Granddad, neither of them were really in my life when I was a kid. I had Fang and Bones."

Danny frowned like she always did when Roch shoved her off, but wasted no time putting her chin on his shoulder, watching him as he talked.
"Mhmmm," she said. She'd heard of this mysterious Fang before, but never in so much detail. "Stealing isn't nice," she commented.

"No, it ain't, and neither is he," Roch said quietly. "But he still had a huge say in how I thought as a kid... and I'm still... dealin' with these moments where I start... thinkin' like he does. It ain't nice thinkin," he admitted. "It ain't nice at all. And I wanted t--t'see what I was becomin' before I came here. T'really look at what I mighta become."

And Roch had lost her.
"But ... you are nice. I mean you're kind of a butt most of the time, but not mean. Except to Yin," she said, sticking out her tongue. She knew that was a lost cause though, so she tried to quickly change the subject.
Luckily, Roch did it for her, and completely confused her at the same time. "Wait you can see the future now?" Might become apparently meant would become. "How come you didn't tell me!"

"I can't see the future--I just... y'ever heard of someone learnin' so much from someone--followin' all the stuff they do--to the point where when they're grown they're just like the guy?" he asked. "Y'think I'm like my old man or my granddad or somethin, right? Well... I was startin' t'be like Fang. And... well, it ain't a good thing t'be like him."

"No," Danny responded honestly. She'd never seen anyone who grew up EXACTLY like their guardian. Oersted and her were example enough of that.
Roch's second example made more sense. "I think you look like your dad, but ... I dunno, you're not as much of a butt face as him. He's even worse than you." She nodded to prove that this was very true and very important. She sighed and looked up at him from her place on his shoulder. "What's this about?"

"I had this moment... where I started thinkin' of people as if they were liabilities," he admitted quietly. "Like... they were too dangerous, or too big of problems, t'keep around. That's Fang thinkin. I got pissed at somethin' I shouldn'ta been mad about, I started wonderin' about how smart it was t'do this, or t'keep that--and I felt sick about it. Danny... before I came t'school I was..."
He didn't want to tell her. Danny thought the world of him, and he had always wanted to live up to that. But he couldn't. He probably never would be able to. "I once beat a friend almost t'the point of dissipation... no, that's a lie. It wasn't just once. If I felt like the guy'd screwed up, or done somethin' wrong to me, or t'my gang, I beat the living wax outta them, and had them dragged off by someone... tossed inta the junkyard and left there. And I ain't that different, even now."
But she knew that, didn't she?
