User ImageGabriel approached the border of the pride that she and her brother had decided they would join. It was a strong pride full of strong lions, and they wanted to be a part of it. As she approached, she gave a roar of challenge and waited to see whom would respond. She had to fight her way in. She had watched enough others do it as she and her brother observed the pride. This should not be a hard thing to do, or so she thought. Her mother did not raise weak cubs, and she WOULD get into this pride no matter if she had to come back again and again to do it.

Gabriel knew her brother was about somewhere trying his paw at entering the pride too. They were determined to make this their home, and if he did not make it in, he would do the same as she, keep coming back until he did. Gabriel was proud of her brother for being determined on this. He might not be as serious as she would like all the time, but he did have the determination when he wanted something. That was an important thing to have when one wished to be the best. Gabriel would be the best.

Bousvor happened to be lounging in the shade, musing to himself. He was taking a quick break out of the sun while others stood for the challenges. His winning streak had to end sometime. The tawny male felt bad for the rogues he had beaten. Had he been to hard on them, or were they just not ready yet? He didn't get much change to mull it over when a challenging roar sounded.

His eyes quickly found the source a dark, green and red, female with ambition in her eyes. Bousvor also quickly noted that all the other reavers were busy with challengers. He heaved himself to his feet and trotted out to meet her. Very quickly he was going to find out if his streak was going to continue or if this lioness was going to break it.

Gabriel saw the tawny male approaching and prepared herself. She had already been standing tense, now she crouched a little and set her mind on the task. She had to beat this lion. She refused to make the first move, though, so she simply prepared and stood her ground. If she let him be the one to make the first move, hopefully, he would also be the first to make a mistake. It was a sound method, at least to Gabriel's thinking, and she was going to test it thoroughly today.

Gabriel had seen quite a few males among the guards at the edges, but she had been hoping a little bit for another female to show up. She eyed the male in front of her and really hoped she had what it took to take him down. He looked a bit more muscular than herself, and that was not a good sign to notice right off the bat. Oh well, no going back now, and she certainly would not try to back out even if she could. She had chosen the fight, time to reap what she had sown. She takes a deep breath as she watches to see what his first move will be.

The tawny male eyed his opponent as he approached. She looked ready, but unwilling to make the first attack. Bousvor, never one for lazy chatter, went right to it. He didn't like talking down to rogues or telling them they couldn't win. Look at him! He had once been a rogue too. Now he was here meeting rogues.

Bousvor turned his walk into a sprint at the female. He gave a snarl and sent his paw slashing for her chest. A viking had to do more than just stand there. He was forcing her to react. To defend herself or take injury. He hoped she would also attack without having to be goaded into it. She didn't seem that type though.

Gabriel kept her eyes on the male. When he started to sprint she dug her paws in and when he swiped at her, she brought front paws up to swipe right back at him. Her paws knocked his to the side, but did not manage to do much more than that. Now was the time to attack for herself. She pushed forward and tried to make him back up and lose ground. She growled a little as she went for his legs. She usually was not one for the growling and fussing in a fight. One did not need to make a lot of noise to win.

Gabriel was going to try to make this chance count. She slashed at his paws and tried to bite at his shoulder. Perhaps she could get a few blows in, gain some ground, and throw the male off-balance. That would be wonderful luck and she hoped it worked. It was a shame she was not better prepared for fighting, but her rogue mother had done the best she could to prepare Gabe and Azrael. Gabriel would come out of this with something one way or another. She just hoped it would honor her mother's memory by being a good outcome.

She had certainly been ready for him. It showed in the way she blocked his attack. That was a good start for her. His opponent quickly followed up on the stalemate. Bousvor barely had time to turn aside and avoid the worst of it. He still felt the sting as her fangs scored on his shoulder, but the damage didn't feel too bad.

Nimbly he danced on his feet as she went for his legs. He didn't like backing up but he knew a tactical retreat when he saw it. For the moment she had the upper paw. Bousvor watched for an opening. He thought he saw it and tried to trip her up the next time she closed in with him.

Gabiel barely managed to step to the side when the male went to trip her up. She had been going for another attack and it almost cost her her balance. This male was damn good and she was feeling her lack even while she had the upper paw. What she had gained had only been through a burst of force that she was not likely to keep up long. What would happen when it gave out on her? The lioness did not want to know the answer to that, and she certainly was not going to waste time thinking on it. It would cost her if she got distracted in the middle of this fight. She was determined to keep her mind in the moment.

Gabriel took a bite at the male's leg and managed to get it, but it cost her. She left her shoulder and side wide open. It had been a risky move, and the lioness did not thing it through before taking it. She should have known better and retreated when she had the chance. Now the male had a clear chance to take the upper paw from her, and if he was good, he would keep it! She cursed herself mentally, trying to retreat and knowing she did not have the time unless her opponent tripped up somewhere in following her. It was not a shining moment for Gabriel.

Bousvor was glad he managed to thwart her next attack as she managed to dodge his trip manuver. However it didn't work long as she quickly swooped in for a bite to his paw. He winced as he felt her get a good hold on his pads. Even through the pain in his paw and shoulder he saw right away that she left herself open. With his paw held captive he used the only tool available at the moment. His mouth.

He opened his jaws wide and laid his fangs into her shoulder. Feeling her trying to retreat he released his hold on her lest she pull him off balance. Now he pressed forward. His claws slashing for her nose and legs.

Gabriel winced as the teeth bit into her shoulder and let go of the paw she had to try and retreat more. She had to get him dislodged so she could prevent him doing more damage. It had been such a stupid move for her to take that shot at his paw. Oh yeah, she probably had given him a limp that would last a few days, but she left herself wide open and she was going to be licking her wounds probably as long as he would be if not longer at this rate. She was going to have to think about this fight long and hard when it was done because there was a lot of room for improvement.

Gabriel could not quite retreat or get the lion off her as she tried to do so. She kept trying to defend herself, but where he had her was very much to her disadvantage. She tried a swipe or two at his side and at his belly, but did not do much damage. She changed tactics and tried to attack his neck and face, but while she could reach this better. It was difficult to get much leverage at the angle she was swiping. It looked like the fight was over, and she was none too happy about it. She knew she was going to loose at this point. She was getting too tired to keep going much longer.

This match was as good as his. He had control of it and he wasn't going to give it back. Bousvor easily dodged or blocked her half-hearted attacks at his side and belly. He kept up the pressure, forcing her back further and further. Every time she tried to go for his neck or face he would snap his teeth at her paw.

He saw her exhaustion and decided for a final decisive push to finish the battle. The tawny male gave a couple of quick swipes in succession to give some space for his next move. Bousvor pivoted quick as a snake until he was facing away and launched out with his hind feet. Delivering a hard blow to the female which sent her into the dirt. He turned back around.

"When you have healed and trained, you are welcome to try again."

Gabriel was not expecting the move the male did when he went to end the fight. She retreated from the swipes he gave at her, and when he turned away, she was hoping that it might be ended there. She was quite tired at that point and knew she had lost. The hind leg kick caught her and threw her to the ground a few paces from where she had been standing a few moments before. She was SO glad her brother had not been close enough to see that. He would have humiliated her over it for a long while. She just hoped that he was doing better on his challenge.

Gabriel picked herself up, so as not to be seen as weak or cowering. She would have liked to have just stayed there and waited for the pain to lessen before she rose, but she knew that staying there nursing her wounds was not an option. She had to rise, and so she did rise. The comment from the male brought a nod from Gabriel. "I will be back." She turned and left, going to the place that she and her brother had agreed to meet if they failed. If he succeeded, he would not show there, and she would simply try again when she was healed.
