Ofelia was tired of being stuck in the hospital even though it had only been a few days. She was tired of the food, she was tired of the pain in her throat, and she was tired of the silence that a lack of Rue was pounding away at.

Stupid loss of weapon, stupid hospital people who wouldn't let her get up and go out. Sure she was very clearly not able to function on her own but man, this sucked so hard. She felt fine, why wouldn't they just let her go?

Maybe it was because she could barely move for short periods of time, or maybe it was because she still had bandages on her entire upper torso that made her look like a zombie.

. . . thinking of zombies made Ofelia unhappy and she threw a pillow at the wall. Hot damn, so bored.

Ami walked in, clipboard in hand, bored expression on her face. These were just duties. She liked the patients who shut up, let her bandage them, and let her get out.

She looked over the report, and let out a silent sigh of relief. Throat damage. No talking- ******** sweet.

"Hi I'm here to check your vitals, just don't say anything I'm about to touch your wrist." That was Ami for you. No proper warning, just a sentence or two and then dive right in. She grabbed the girl's wrist gently and began counting beats. Pulse was first after all.

Ofelia was about to try and slink over to get her thrown pillow (it was the only one she had) when someone who wasn't a lab tech came into the room with a chart. Instantly the teen settled back against the bed, unwilling to be poked and prodded, and as soon as a hand reached for her arm she did her best not to panic.

That was, at least, until her wrist was pressed on and the red-head who came in to check on her 'vitals' went silent. It was a bit much, or at least Ofelia might have been overreacting, and the teen started to moved her shoulder in an attempt to get her arm free. Just outright yanking her arm away would have been easiest but that involved more motion than she might have had in her.

Because throwing the pillow totally had hurt, not that she'd openly admit to it. "Le....gg..." She said, trying to speak. Of course everything came out sounding like she was speaking into a hollow tube that was slowly being filled with rocks and soil. A wheezy gasp accented the end of her not even fully formed sentence.

As the girl tried to pull away, Ami simply kept her grip. No way in hell Ami would let a fidgeting girl hault her work, or slow her from getting out of here on time. Ami sighed, clearly displeased with the girl's .... attempt at talking. "What did I say? I said no ******** talking." Well no, Ami had said "don't say anything" and simply expected Ofie to understand that and interpret it as such.

A moment of silence as Ami counted beats. "Normal. Heartbeat- again, don't freak." Some might have been more shy about touching another person's chest, but Ami was a medic. She was used to it now. Maybe not in the beginning, but certainly over time.

Ofelia wasn't shy about having her chest touched, though part of her did want to continue to act out. She was in a foul mood, something very uncommon for such a usually upbeat and chipper individual, and instead of yanking away she just frowned.

She frowned so hard. She didn't like being told what to do, at least not by people she barely knew (though Ofelia recognized her) and people who weren't her boss. Friendly suggestions were always welcome and she was more likely to listen to them, but being told what to do just made her unhappy.

And so she pointed to her cell phone, wondering if this strange person who now had a hand on her chest would understand what she wanted. If she couldn't take she sure as hell could type stuff out - she'd done it with Melvin. Of course whether or not she got her phone was up to this fellow red-head (lots of people with red hair here, she thought), and she continued to point.

And then grunt, because grunting was all she could do.

. . . it was a polite grunt.

Ami counted. It was regular. A little fast, but nothing unusual. She noticed the girl making grabbing motions at her phone and sighed.

Technically it wasn't standard, but then, Ami wanted out of here. It wouldn't affected the results too much. Besides, maybe the girl had something to say. Ami sighed and reached over to grab the phone, and then put it in Ofie's hands.

"Listen though, if anyone asks, I didn't give it to you." Best to at least give her a warning. "Temperature's next. I have to get the thermometer. Send your messages or whatever while I do that." With a sigh, she stood up and moved to the small drawer set hanging on the wall that had basic supplies in it. "I'll pretend I didn't see it."

Poor Ami just thought the girl wanted to text her friends, not communicate with her.

Ofelia was glad to have her phone, it was the best way for her to properly talk, and she started typing a message out. Long gone were the days where she couldn't use her phone properly, now was the time of the thumb wars.

Quote:
who are you again i dont remember your name

At least she could be honest about it, Ofelia was sort of s**t with names unless she channeled them over and over, and that happened to be why she had a habit of saying everyone's name each time she addressed them. Ofelia held the phone up to show the text to the other red-head, taking her time to make sure it could be read. She typed one right beneath it, fingers flying over the keys.

Quote:
did we work with allan together i dont remember

Ofelia knew her face, or at least she thought she did, and so she grasped at straws as for a reason why it may or may not look familiar. Her graduating, or being promoted or whatever, to an intermediate hunter was one of her more awesome days of her life. She had gotten a new jacket, run barefoot on a beach, and played a weird video game.

Fun galore.

At first Ami thought Ofie was trying to show her a "funny" picture or something, and rolled her eyes. Best to just entertain the girl and get it over with. As her eyes scanned the phone, she realized it was actually a message to her and blinked a few times in surprise. Surprise, then annoyance.

"Ahhh, I don't know, and quite frankly it couldn't matter less because I don't remember you either," she said astutely. She tapped her hand on the shelf for a moment and said, "I know the report said throat damage, but it got to your vocal cords? Ouch." What an unlucky kid. Ami was harsh and cruel at times, but she wasn't heartless. Even she had to acknowledge that not being able to speak would suck.

Thermometer now in hand, she said, "Can you stick this under your arm, or should I do that for you too?" She held out the measurement stick for Ofie to take.

Ofelia's brows knit faintly at the remark given to her by the other person, and she started to type a reply when she was told she needed to have her temperature taken. It was easy enough to reach for it, even if she was tired and simply movements had her feeling weak, but none the less she managed to raise her arm and take it in her hand. Under her arm it went, the teen remaining motionless for the time being.

When it beeped she pulled it out and looked at it, the numbers registering in her mind. 100.1, hmm? A low-grade fever at best, nothing to worry about. If it got past 101.2 then she'd need to worry. . . not that she figured this red-head would care. It looked as though this person wanted out ASAP and as sad as it was, Ofelia still wanted company. She handed the thermometer back, careful not to shake it or cause the temperature to change.

As soon as she handed it over another text came out.

Quote:
it tore my throat out i think lots of blood and pain

Ofelia honestly wasn't sure the extent of her injures but it hurt like hell to talk. It might have been because the vocal chords were damaged or it might have been because the muscles and everything else in her throat were only on the mend.

Quote:
my name is ofelia by the way most call me ofie are you

The teen remembered a name on the tip of her memory, something Allan had said when listing everyone off. Considering the message was too long she had to pop another one in.

Quote:
called ami i think i remember that

Unforunately for Ofelia, Ami didn't remember a single thing about Ofie from their promotion. All she remembered about that day was passing out after a bought of One Piece. Everything else was a white blur in the hot sun of the island.

She winced at the text about blood and pain. Ami wasn't squeamish, but nobody liked to imagine pain, especially not a woman only just coming out of a traumatizing torture experience.

"You're a tad hot," she said, understating the temperature entirely. She scribbled the number down nonetheless. "Nothing more meds won't fix. I bet you're tired of the pill popping," Ami said, more to herself than to Ofie. She knew how annoying the pills got after quite a few stays in the infirmary.

It was an honest question and Ofelia was tired, her hands sending the first text before she even finished it, but there was nothing else to ask for it. Actually most of her medicines were coming in through her veins since she couldn't swallow properly so it had been a stupid question.

She also doubted that this Ami person even had the clearance to get her more medicine, not that Ofelia would willingly take it. It was getting ridiculous how much she'd been drugged down, how much everything was blurring together. Eventually she'd do much more than just throw a pillow and hurt herself.

Also this Ami person really hadn't confirmed or denied her name so Ofelia hoped that calling her Ami (at least in her head or texts) would be okay.

Quote:
i know its your job but thanks for checking on me

Of a few things Ofelia could be honest about, saying thank you to those who came to care for her was certainly one of them. Even if was a job, or an order, or they weren't enjoying it, she still would say thanks.

"No," Ami denied quite quickly, voice deadpan and showing no hesitation whatsoever. Ami did have the clearance, but she wasn't one to do favors. Especially not to some broken girl that she had no attachments to.

The idea of sedating her and leaving was tempting though. It was so sad that she had to watch her behavior.

The girl was thanking her, and Ami shrugged away from it, like she did all friendly behavior. She didn't like personal attachments or sentiments. A change of subject was in order. "Where do you remember my name from?"

Quote:
we were promoted together i remember you from there

Ofelia typed out a response, her motions getting a little slower. She was getting tired, the fever may have been weak but it was getting to her, and she held the phone out to the other redhead to read. It took more effort than she would have liked to and that frustrated her a little bit. This conversation would end soon since she likely wasn't much longer for the world.

Quote:
its okay if you dont remember me

She finished up that as well, having pulled her arm back to finish, and a wince of unhappiness spread over her face along with her pain. So sleepy, so sleepy, and getting more and more in pain. This person wasn't willing to help so maybe she'd just sleep it off?

Ami frowned. "Oh don't wallow. I don't remember anyone," she said, thumbing through the texts.

Well she couldn't really blame the girl. It must have felt like absolute s**t to be chained to a bed with no means of communicating or doing anything. Oh wait, Ami KNEW it felt like absolute s**t. She'd been there.

A pang of empathy went to the girl, one not often felt. The girl was quickly falling asleep, but Ami felt the need to communicate with her a little while longer. "I ... Do you like poetry? I have some books I could bring by for you to read ..." She looked at Ofie a little skeptically. "You can still read, right?"

Of course Ofelia couldn't read, at least well not at the level a nineteen year old should have been, but there was no need to go around telling all strangers at this point in time. She'd just need to practice, to get amazing, and then maybe she'd tell people she couldn't read.

Wait, that sounded wrong in her head. If it sounded wrong in her head it certainly didn't need to be said aloud or in text so she just skipped ahead.

Quote:
i can read and i do like poetry

Ofelia had never properly read a book of poetry out of her own free will in her entire life. Ami did not need to know that.

i would love to read anything youd want to bring
