Okay, we had an assembly today, and it brought up something about riding in cars that I had no idea about.

"Jamie died in a minor, survivable car accident simply because she had her seat reclined. With her seatbelt fastened, she reclined the front seat to nap on the way home from school. Upon impact, she was thrown forward to the shoulder harness, the reclined seat came forward and hit her in the head with such force that she died of severe brain trauma. The driver had only a broken thumb. If the seat had not been able to recline while the car was in motion, we believe Jamie Snow would be alive today."

This girl went to school with some of my friends in elementary school. She was only 11 when she died. Her mother came in and talked to our school today...it would have been her 17th birthday.

Reclining your seat back defeats the purpose of a seat belt. It says this in the owner's manual of any car. However, most people don't read that. All of the people mentioned at our assembly, including Jamie, were wearing their seat belt. All are either dead or seriously injured.

I personally recline my seat on just about every long car trip my family takes. This assembly may have saved my life. I feel the need to spread the word on this. It could save your life, or your friend's life. Please, share this with everyone. There is a free DVD, and it has a powerful impact. Talk to your school principal, see if he or she will set up a twenty minute assembly to show this DVD and warn your friends about the dangers of reclining your seat.
