The grass was blowing in the breeze, slightly hiding the movement of the tiny creature that was hunting inside the tall blades. With in the grass a small jackal kept her nose close to the ground as she searched for the scent of a snake or a small bird or maybe a field mouse to eat. She wanted to hurry and find something for a meal before the the sun set further than it already had and night came. ~ Unknown to the small creature, a dark colored wild dog was watching the small hint of movement. He sniffed the breeze that blew past him and grinned, drooling slightly at the scent he picked up. He slowly crept towards the patch of grass, staying down wind so whatever was hiding in the grass wouldn't pick up his scent.

LexThetaSigma Sorry! For someone reason my notifications didn't pick it up, and I had trouble finding it. sweatdrop Tim moved silently through the grass, mind wandering over pointless things. It had been nice to see his old pride again, but he just didn't feel at home there anymore. His best friend was back from the dead and everything had changed. He needed time to find himself, to get things straight. He needed to get some practice in, his inner mentor told himself. Tim snorted at the thought. It had been weird to see all his old friends fighting at close to the same level he was. If he didn't started training again, Tim would quickly fall behind. And that was completely unacceptable. He would never be able to show his face around the pride again. A breeze trickled past his nose, blades of grass teasing at his fur. Wild dog, he thought. Another sniff brought him the scent of jackal. Most likely companions. Tim had seen many canines that often traveled with their smaller cousins. Jackals and wolves were useful allies. They had excellent hearing and could pick up on dangers that larger predators often overlooked. Tim suppressed the brief feeling of homesickness and paused to bite at a tick crawling up his leg.

The Captain Britain It's fine. Gaia loves to eat notices most of the time. As the sun set low on the horizon, the small jackal continued her search. Now she was just hoping she could find a snake or other small creature that was still out here. She knew she probably didn't stand a chance at catching a bird with the sun so low now; though she figured she might have a small chance of finding a raven lurking out here. She continued walked and finally caught the hint of a scent that smelled appetizing. A mouse, if she trusted her nose. She followed the scent and started to stalk after it. Just as she had the rodent in her sights and got in position to pounce, something pounced on her, knocking her on to her back. She didn't even have time to figure out what it was as she tried her best to defend herself. When she felt her efforts begin to fail and could feel the hot breath of whatever had pinned her down, she let out a loud howl in hopes that someone would hear her.

LexThetaSigma Lol. Eats 'em like friggin candy. Tim's head whipped around at the sound of the howl. That was a cry for help, and it was very close by. Working quickly, the lion sniffed the air again, but still the only smells he could detect were jackal and dog. Perhaps he had misjudged before. If the two canines weren't companions, then it was entirely possible that the little jackal was about to become the wild dog's dinner. Tim sped off in the direction of the scents, large paws carrying him swiftly over the ground. In seconds, the smell of fear began to mix in with the air. Using the scent to help him pinpoint the location of the scuffle, he adjusted the direction he was running in. He could see them both now, blobs standing out against the blades of grass. The dog was a dark colour, possibly a dark brown or even navy, pinning down a light, creamy brown jackal, obviously struggling to get free. Tim knew very much about the Circle of Life, and that in order to survive one had to take away the life of another. But all predators were thinkers. To kill another one, even one smaller than yourself, was murder in Tim's eyes. With a mighty roar, Tim leapt at the dog, muscular legs braced to knock the dog over and off of the squirming jackal.

The Captain Britain Oh yeah. I've got another on-going rp in another guild that Gaia has eaten all but one notification from when it gets posted in. XD as if it doesn't survive enough by all the spam it sends us. The small jackal shut her eyes, not wanting to give the wild dog the satisfaction of seeing her scared, even though he could probably pick up on the scent of her fear. She hoped that he would be quick with it and not drag it out any longer than it needed to be.When she heard the sound of a mighty roar, she barely peeked an eye open to see what had made the noise. Was it coming to join the dog or had it heard her howl? As soon as the large lion pounced on the dog and knocked him off of her, Dylis squirmed around before getting to her feet. She crouched down in the grass, still slightly scared, as she watched the lion battle her attacker.

LexThetaSigma I know right? Like, I didn't even get the quote from your last post. I'm glad I double-checked for tags today, or I totally would have missed this. x3 Also, wasn't sure if you wanted to control the dog or not, so I avoided playing it in this post. Tim knocked the dog to the ground, teeth bared and snarling. Fear was the greatest weapon, his mentor had used to say. Make your opponent fear you, and you can control the battle. His claws dug in to the dog's fur, drawing small spots of blood. The landing unbalanced him a little. It was an amateur mistake, but one he made nevertheless. He skidded off of the dog, sliding in the dirt. He swore internally and quickly re-adjusted his position, placing himself in-between the dog and the small jackal. Tim gave a warning swipe, tail lashing out behind him. He had both weight and size on the dog, but the lion knew by experience that being smaller than your opponent did not always deter fighters. He himself had gone up against lions far bigger and older than he had been at the time. Briefly his memory flashed to the time he had fought Bruus' friend Kal-el. That had not been a terribly enjoyable experience. He shook his head, refocusing on the battle. He really was out of practice. A slip-up like that could have cost him. "Clear out of here, and I'll let you go quietly." He threatened, ready to counter if the dog decided to try and fight past him.

The Captain Britain Wow! It would really be nice if they would get that fixed. Hopefully this one comes through. ^.^ either way would have been fine; thanks though. When Dylis heard the voice of her rescuer, she peaked her head out of the grass. Standing there between the dog and her hiding spot was a large red and black lion. The size of him had her wanting to shrink back into the grass, but she tried to be strong and tough it out. After all he was defending her and he had saved her from becoming dog chow. She watched as the lion managed to get his claws in slightly and heard the dog howl. Got a taste of his own medicine, he did. She heard the lion's rough voice as he tried to intimidate the dog and scare him off. ~~~~~ The dog howled as he felt claws pierce his skin and draw a bit of blood. He got up as quickly as he could once the large feline got off of him and placed himself in front of the little meal. He gave one last snarl before turning away. He would find something else to eat that would be less of a hassle and didn't have a guardian lion watching out for it.

LexThetaSigma HA. It did. I think I'm going to start checking my RPs daily though. I really hate leaving people hanging for more than two days. Tim's blue eyes tracked that dog carefully as it left. He stood ready for it to turn back around until he could no longer hear the rustling of grass. It hadn't been much of a fight, but the familiar feel of adrenaline was comforting. The lion evened his breathing, willing his heart rate to start falling back to a normal level. He turned to examine the small jackal. He towered over the tan creature. Tim crouched down slowly, so as not to make an sudden movements, and gave the jackal a small smile without showing teeth. The lion had seen the dog on top of the poor thing. He wanted to make sure it was alright, and possibly escort it to a safe location. The grasses were a dangerous place for a jackal. "Are you alright, little one?" Tim asked softly.

The Captain Britain That's the easiest since Gaia likes its candy. I'm the same way; I prefer to keep it going quickly. Though this week I'm away from home so if it takes more that a day or two, it's because my family has me exhausted. The small jackal watched at the wild dog ran off after the lion tried to intimidate him. She peeked out a little further and saw the large feline walking in her direction. Despite the fact that he had saved her, he was quite intimidating himself. She watched as he crouched down and attempted to offer her a smile. "I-I'm okay," she replied hesitantly, "T-thank you."

LexThetaSigma Exactly. I just feel awful if I keep people waiting for a tag for too long. Especially since if I put off a tag for too long, I'll forget about the RP altogether. The poor thing must be terrified. Who wouldn't though, after nearly being eaten? Tim lowered his back and settled on the ground, feet resting out in front of him. "I'm called the Red Robin." He told the small jackal softly. Then again, he supposed it might make the jackal feel more at ease if he gave her his real name. "But you can call me Tim." The lion flicked his tail to scare off a fly, frowning at the insect before turning back to the small canine. "Is there somewhere safe I can escort you?" He asked. "I would hate for that dog to be lurking around in the grass if I leave you here." Which was entirely possible. Tim couldn't smell the dog anymore, but he didn't want to take any chances.

The Captain Britain Yep. Though I try to keep them all in my journals so I don't forget. Though lately I've been slacking on that bit XD The small jackal peeked back out of the grass and looked up at the lion with a slightly confused look. "What's a robin?" she asked, uncertain; she didn't think he looked like a robin, whatever that was. "Thank you, Tim," she said as she slowly calmed back down and worked her way back out of the grass towards him. "My name is Dylis." She gave him a shy smile at his comment and his question. He didn't seem too bad after all. "I'm not sure; I've just been roaming here and trying to find a home."

LexThetaSigma I keep my active RPs in my plot thread, and then once they're finished I move them to my journal. Helps me keep track of which ones I've finished. Tim let out a soft, breathy laugh. "A robin is a type of bird. It's just another name that I have." He explained. Another pang of homesickness caught him off guard, making his smile falter a little bit. Tim missed his own home. His friends, his family, even the annoying little cubs that liked to bother him. He took a deep breath, composing himself before continuing. "A home? Well, why don't we look around here and see if we can find a nice spot for you to settle down?" The lion suggested, getting to his feet.

"Ohhhhhh!" Dylis said as she tried to figure out what kind of bird a robin was and why the lion had taken it as a name. She had finally made the decision to step out of the grass when she saw Tim starting to get to his feet. She cowered slightly but forced herself to remember that he had helped her, even more he wanted to help her find a place to settle down. She took a deep breath, crawled out of the grass, and stood next to him. "Alright, do you know what places are around here?"

Tim contemplated the lay of the land. He had been taught to always map out the location he was in. Generally it was used to keep track of hiding places and escape routes, but there was no reason it couldn't work for finding a place the jackal could stay. The lion pulled up his mental map as the small jackal stepped out of the grass. To the north was just more grass. West, there were some rocks with small crevices and caves. It seemed like a good place to start, but Tim remembered seeing more than one venomous snake slithering through the boulders. The lion recalled taking a quick drink from a small watering hole to the east. There had been what looked like an abandoned badger's nest close by. It was worth a shot. "I believe I remember seeing something over this way." Tim jerked his head east, blue eyes glancing in that direction quickly before returning to the jackal. "I believe I saw a small den over near a watering hole. We could try there first....uh...miss...." The lion trailed off, not knowing what the jackal's name was.

A small den would suit her for the night, at least until the sun rose and it would be slightly safer for her to begin her travels again. She looked in the direction that he had gestured to but didn't see anything. Then again, she was tiny and she hadn't come from that direction to get here. He could be right; she hoped he was anyway. "Alright, that should suffice for now," she replied, attempting to stand at her full height to show that she was no longer intimidated by the large lion. "Oh!" she realized that she had yet to introduce herself to her rescuer. "My name is Dylis."
