Despite the freedom her position allowed her Margulis still found herself waking with desires to continue her own research. She couldn't do it within the confines of the pride, that would be too conspicuous, and it was getting harder to dodge the trappers they sent on her tail. She didn't move very quickly after all.
In this particular excursion she had circled back a half dozen times and trudged through thick brush to escape prying eyes. And all she had to show for it was sore muscles and a coat covered in burrs. Perhaps she hadn't thought the whole thing through. She had no storeroom out here, no proper lab, no test subjects. Well, at least the atmosphere was nice. She glanced around at the dense jungle terrain, dripping with dead and dying vines and fungus. Well, relatively nice at least.

The tongue of a toad, the tongue of a toad...
Oh, for the LOVE OF--
Had Gogo taken his supply of toads again? Again? AGAIN?!
Idili`su's rather stocky leopard "assistant" (for lack of a better term to describe the intrusive creature) was usually paws-off when it came to the lion's ingredients, but she had a peculiar affinity for amphibians. An unfortunate...affinity...in this case. The male was just about to shout out the leopard's name in rage when he remembered she had gone off somewhere. Gods be damned in the bleeding heavens above--he'd have to go out and look for her. But he didn't get very far before an unfamiliar scent caught his nose's attention.
Being a complete coward, he stayed silent for a good minute.

Her storeroom, all its myriad of snakes and herbs and decaying creatures. Just thinking about it she could almost smell it. No, she could smell it. Her eyes narrowed to pinpoints as she tried to focus on her surroundings. No, she hadn't gotten turned around. She was nowhere near home so why did it smell that way?
Were there others out here, who did what they did? The thought was both fascinating and frightening. She crouched down as best she could in the greenery, though her tremor made the leaves shake around her, and slunk toward the smell. A lion. Had he noticed her?
He might move on if she stayed silent, but it was her duty to investigate strangers, wasn't it? "You smell of poultices," she called out, pressing herself as low to the ground as she could though her bright eyes gave her away.
