Kizev watched the big pink lioness. She'd been around a lot lately, and he wasn't entirely certain of why she was here or where she'd come from. She had kids though. They were his siblings because their father was his father, Kivuli'Mwezi. But...did that make the pink grownup his mother? He wasn't sure. He didn't know his mother at all. He didn't remember anything but his father's den and pride. So he decided to swallow his uncertainty and just go up to the pink lioness and ask. "Are you my mom?"

She'd just snuck out of the den she called home, having just put her cubs down for a nap. All four of them were fast asleep and she couldn't have been happier. Galilahi was stretching out when she heard a cub's voice. At first she thought it was one of hers, so she looked back into the den and realized they were all sleeping. Blinking, pink ears swiveled as her head turned to look down at a yellow cub. Well, he had the same kind of patterns as her own. He was the same age, but completely wrong in color. She arched a brow and wondered if he was serious. "I am not, little cub," she said, getting down on her belly to look at him. She knew it was better to talk to them at their own level. "My cubs are all fast asleep in their den. You don't know your mother?"

"Good," he answered, though he wasn't actually sure it was a good or bad thing. He just didn't want to have this random lioness be his mom in addition to having to share a dad with her kids.
"No, I don't. She brought me and my sister here when we were little cubs, so Dad said, and I don't remember her," Kizev told the grownup. Since he was supposed to be honest and not lie to adults, so he would tell the whole truth.
He just didn't want to have as much in common with his other siblings as he did with his twin sister 'Dama.

She nodded at that. At least the mother didn't just abandon them in the middle of no where. Brows knit together as she looked the cub over and tilted her head. "You look related to my little ones. Perhaps you're cousins." Her voice was soft and gentle, a motherly smile was on her face as she watched him. Honestly, the markings were right, the colors weren't.
"While I can't be your mother, I can be your friend. I'm Galilahi. You can call me Gali for short, if you want." The smile on her lips grew brighter before getting a good idea in her head. "Want to play a game? I play with my cubs all the time! We can play tag!"
What else does one do when meeting a cub?

Eh? Did she not know? Her kids (with their tell-tale and obvious pink) were always in and out of Kivuli's den, where Kizev and 'Dama lived. And why was she being so nice to him? He wasn't her kid, nor did he want to be, and now she wanted to play a game with him? He didn't like it.
"That's a stupid cub's game," he pouted. "I'm a juvenile, and I don't play stupid cub games." Never mind that if 'Dama had suggested such a thing he'd leap in a heartbeat. He just didn't want to play with this not-mother person whose kids had tried to worm their way in while he and 'Dama were just getting to know their father.

"My cubs are your age and they still play with me," she said matter of factly. Oh well. The female sighed a little and watched the little boy with a curious expression. He seemed nearly resentful in a way. She wasn't sure why. Gali hadn't noticed him around before. Being a slave, however, she did tend to keep busy. A slave on top of being a mother.
Her tail flicked a little more before she sighed. "Well, do you want to play anything? Do you want to talk about something," her voice was still quiet. She was trying to be helpful; to be gentle with him. Really, curiosity got the better of her. She wanted to know what was with the chip on the other's shoulder.

"They're younger," Kizev retorted. He should know, they hadn't been born 'til after he and 'Dama had come here and Kivuli had told them that they hadn't been born here, but they were still Mwezi all the same and still his children. So it was a fact that their half-siblings were younger than they were, even if it wasn't a noticeable difference to most people.
"And no, I don't want to play or talk with you. You already said it, you're not my mom. So why should I?" the boy demanded to know.

Her eyes widened in shock at the back talk. Her own cubs didn't speak to her like that. Frowning, she got into a sitting position and frowned deeply. This little cub had no manners. She'd speak to Kivuli about that. She didn't like the fact he was talking to her like this. Even though she was a slave, she was still older than him, and had done nothing wrong to deserve this.
"Very well. I'll just leave you be," she said quietly, dipping her head. She got to her paws and started to head back to her den.

Kizev looked at his paws as the grownup pink lioness turned away. He knew he'd done something wrong, but he wasn't sure what. Was it something he'd said that he shouldn't have? He wasn't very good at talking to people, that was what 'Dama did best.
And he'd been pretty shy and hid in the den up until the others, the half-siblings, had shown up. Then he'd started being more adventurous and going out more, just to get away from them. Yes, they were his younger siblings, but it had been nice just him and 'Dama and Dad in the den. Even if the others lived with their mom, they were still around a lot and things got very crowded very quickly.
Was it so wrong to want them to just stay away altogether?

She didn't even look back at the cub as she went back into her den. Oh, Kivuli would be hearing about this, most definitely. She was trying to be friendly towards a relative of Kivuli's and he was just being very rude and not very welcoming at all. Gali knew she'd done nothing wrong towards the cub. Sibling jealousy, perhaps? She had her own sister, but they didn't get jealous over one another. At least not to the extreme they'd take it out on someone else.
Sighing, Gali curled up with her cubs right then and laid her head on her paws. She'd wait for tomorrow to tell him.
