I know blood runs thicker than water, but I just have to get this off my chest.
I come from a typical, middle-class nuclear family. I have two elder brothers and I'm the only girl. One of my brothers is studying in another state, so that leaves me and my eldest one.
The thing is, my eldest brother used to be just ordinary. In fact, he used to be the most helpful among us three - doing the chores, helping our parents out. But, when he entered college, it's like he changed overnight. He became this prickly, irritable person who preferred to spend more of his time with his friends than his family.
Not that I care too much (I was never really close to him), but it absolutely pisses me off to see the way he treats our mom. He gives her the cold shoulder to everything and responds to her gentle words with short, rough answers. It pisses me off, and when I can't take it enough I snap back at him. I don't understand why he has to act like such a p***k with our mother. She never says anything when he talks to her like that, but I know how hurt she is. I can feel it.
Yet, on some days, my brother can be pretty accommodating. He can be nice to our mom, even! I'm starting to suspect he has this Dr. Jekyll and Mr, Hyde thing going on.....
End of rant. Thanks for reading.

It could be that one or more of his friends has been saying derogatory things about his former behavior. There's lots of other things that could make a person's behavior change drastically like that. You have every right to get pissed off, and your mom does too.
