<< WAKEY WAKEY, WHELP. >>
For the third time that week, Lex fell onto his face out of bed. He groaned, dragged his tall self up, and went through the routine of showering, trimming his beard to five o'clock shadow, brushing his teeth and having breakfast.
He avoided the oven today.
<< Whelp, nourishment time is over. Training fields, now. >>
Complying with orders from Regal had quickly become something Lex learned to do, lest he face the consequences of a Gryphon hitting the highest note he could. Can you say migraine? He certainly could.
The dew was fresh on the grass of the field, and the targets were fresh. Regal appreciated that.
<< Okay whelp, hold your breath, apply pressure, and don't close your damned eyes. >>
"Yeah, yeah, I know."
Regal started it off like this all the time. Lex followed every step perfectly, but the Gryphon would always end up complaining about getting natural human oils on his polished hilt.
Vain pain in the-
<< WHELP, SHOOT. >>
Grunting, Lex did so. A clean hit to the chest of the dummy.
<< Again with the oils, whelp. >>
"You seriously are the worst weapon, I hope you know that."

Kat had taken it upon herself to stop by the training fields once in a while. She already knew how to use her weapon, but like everyone, she could use the practice. This was obviously something Xedis greatly approved on, as opposed to her looking like a fool in battle.
We were going to work on accuracy today, right?
:That was the idea. If you can't get in accurate hits, then your useless.:
To this, Kat only shrugged. She already knew that. Why would he repeat it for her? Then again, this was practically the same conversation every time they came here.
Striding over to the practice dummies, her crimson gaze landed on an unfamiliar figure already out on the field. There were many hunters she had yet to meet, but this guy she had never even seen before. Fresh from the pods maybe? Dismissing the thought, she folded her arms, watching quietly from the sidelines a moment.

After wiping Regal's polished hilt with the end bit of his scarf, Lex took aim at three dummies, as per the Gryphon's instructions. Regal said if he was a really good marksman, he could fire whilst moving the pistol, and hit all three targets spot on.
< There's a girl watching. >
<< Good, that should motivate you, whelp. Maybe if you do it correctly, she'll think you're amazing in the loins. >>
< Oh my word, you're worse than me. >
Shaking his head, Lex attempted the trick shot, and only managed to land a hit on the first dummy.
"Well, I imagine that was pretty embarrassing to watch." He called out, turning his head to get a full view of the girl that was watching. She was a pretty one. "I take it you're a marksman yourself, since you're at this section of the training fields?"

It was only a few days ago, that she and Dakota had been talking of only knowing a few people that wielded guns. Now, as if on cue, here was another. It was hard to tell from this distance just what kind of pistol he had, but it looked like an older weapon.
With his attempt at a trick shot, Kat gave a small clap. It obviously wasn't what he was trying for, what with hitting only the first target, but good on him for trying anyways.
"Heh, we all go through this. Don't be so hard on yourself." Hell, its not like she could claim to always hit her mark. Anyone who did, save for a few, was would be lying.
"Hmm? Oh, yeah. You new here?"

Oh, and she was nice; that was always a good thing. "Well, thanks. I'll try not to be." He gave her an appreciative grin, wiping the handle of the pistol with his scarf again.
"Yeah, I've been awake for around a week. Name's Lex." He desummoned Regal, and strode over to the girl and offered a hand and a smile. "Live division."

It was lucky for Lex that he had met her while she was in a good mood. Not everyone was so lucky.
Her gaze shifted to his gun as he wiped it down with his scarf. (Poor Xedis would never get such treatment for her.) Going by her judgment, she would say that his gun was a flintlock, but she wasn't quite sure. Though she wielded pistols herself, she wasn't all that knowledgeable on every kind of gun there was out there.
"Ah, that so?" Reaching out, she grasped his hand when he offered it to her, shaking it once before releasing it again. "I'm Katherine, Kat for short. Nice to meet you."

"Katherine, good name." A charming smile as he quickly appraised her, grey eyes almost not moving as he used his peripheral vision. "Kat fits too, though. Ferocious, wily, independent. All good characteristics when applied right."
This was a rather old tactic he'd learned at the beginning of his club prowling 'career.' Find the name, come up with something that sounded good about the name, and then lay it out. The results always depended on the girl, but it made for a nice icebreaker.
"So, Kat, what kind of marksman are you? Pistols, rifles, shotguns? I haven't met anyone whose actual weapon is a gun yet."

Kat shrugged at his response, never really haven given her name too much thought. "I guess?" Names weren't that important to her, after all, they were just titles by parents or other caretakers. Nothing more. She could be referred to as 'hunter 15465576' for all she cared, really.
"Me? I have dual handguns for my weapon. But it was only became a hunter that I had ever actually started using any guns of any kind." They weren't hard to use, any idiot could pull a trigger if they had to. It was more accuracy that was the main problem. Hell, when she was a hatchling trainee, boy did she have her s**t aim, and she still didn't consider herself a pro with them.
"And you? Have you used guns before becoming a hunter?"

"Never really handled a pistol before, to be honest." He simple smiled, before looking away and brushing his chest with his knuckles. "Wasn't much into hunting or even skeet shooting; I preferred the night life." A look back to her, smiling gently.
He twirled the pistol in his hands, almost anxiously, as he kept smiling. He wasn't prone to violence, especially against women, but he needed training, and so did she, maybe? It wouldn't be anything bad, just a shoot out. Their shields would absorb the brunt of the damage.
"Well, Kat, what say you to a little duel? I'm not the best of shots yet, and I'll bet that you came out here to get some target practice in the first place." He shrugged and smiled still. "Why not?"

"Makes sense. Its not like we really had a reason to wield any sort of weapon before coming here, I guess." At least she didn't, anyways. "Night life?" Like she was supposed to know what that meant. In any case, she decided to shrug it off for now. Rarely did she pry into other people's pasts, especially when she hardly know that person.
"A duel? As in right now?" She had no problem with it, of course, but it felt a little out of the blue. "Sure, I guess." They might as well, as they were already on the training fields, and sparring with someone was better than practicing with just the practice dummies they had set up here. "Any rules you want to lay down for this spar?"

Lex smirked at the rules question, thinking of quite a few - but they weren't that appropriate, or realistic. He'd just lay down a basic set; nothing fancy. "Simple rules; if one of our shields break, we quit. Charge attacks are allowed; and... well, watch where you aim." His smirk became a grin at that, before he sauntered a good twenty yards from the girl, cocking the hammer of the gun in his hand.
<< You'd better not lose, whelp. >>
< And what'll you do if I lose? Sing? >
The Gryphon ruffled his feathers clearly agitated. He wasn't one to take sass from his pets so lightly.
"Alright! You can choose who shoots first!"

Nodding, she approved of the rules. They were indeed simple, and rules that she had no quarrel with. "Sounds good to me." Though, as far as her charge attack went, she would use that as a last resort. Maybe not even then.. it was.. risky, to use that attack when she didn't need too. She has come damn close to blowing herself up more than the enemy with it.
:Okay, enough chatter! If your going to spar, than get to it.: Rolling her eyes at the obnoxious voice echoing in the back of her mind, she made a gesture for Lex to take his place so that they weren't to shoot each other point blank.
Once in position, she summoned her own weapons, giving them a light squeeze in her grasp. "After you." she offered.

Giving her a polite nod, Lex peppered the area around the girl's feet before ducking for cover. While he could hit a dummy, hitting a human was completely different - you had to bait them sometimes, luring them to move or at least do something that would get them into a better vantage point.
Popping up from behind the hay bale he'd hidden behind, he took a pot shot at her legs, completely missing. The Gryphon hissed in his mind about forgetting to hold his breath while aiming, to which he responded with an 'I know.'

With the battle in motion, she set her fingers on the triggers of her guns, readying herself as she raised them slightly. He was smart, to use the objects around him as cover. Most of the people she had sparred just came at her head on. This would be fun.
Of course, she had lost track of where it was he gone, so all she could do now, was take her time and wait for him to give away his position. It took a moment, but eventually, she got what she had waited for. When he took a shot at her from behind, Kat spun around and loosed a few rounds on the life hunter's shield.

Lex could honestly say he did not expect that at all - fast reaction times, fast firing, and deadly accuracy. He was lucky to have a FEAR shield - he'd be dead otherwise. The spray of bullets had peppered his shield enough to make him feel slightly weak already. Fitting for a Sun Hunter, he mused.
<< Whelp, off your a** and shoot the female. Show your dominance. >>
Lex smirked at that one. Gryphons were apparently misogynists - or maybe that was just Regal. Probably just Regal.
But he did so anyway, leaping over the hay bale and double tapping the trigger, letting loose two golden energy bullets at her back, before running for more cover behind a cropping of rocks.
"Well! I'm a novice compared to you!" He laughed, shaking his head. Pretty good for never having fired a gun before.
